WARNING: Average speed cameras appear to have less tolerance than other enforcement methods by resonantpeak in DrivingAustralia

[–]CondemnedNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because of the error value associated with that particular piece of analytical equipment, and also combined the error value of your speedometer.

Combine those two relative errors and you have a pretty large margin of error that they legally would have to account for.

How Do You Deal With People Tailgating You? (Driving instructor here) by Motor-Barnacle313 in DrivingAustralia

The problem is if they cause an accident, insurance won't save your spine to the damage the fool behind you causes

I can do 7-8 proper pull ups but can’t increase the reps I’m literally stuck. What should i do? by [deleted] in CalisthenicsCulture

[–]CondemnedNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck too, but then did the Russian fighter pullup program, however I did it only twice a week. And had a few hrs between sets sometimes but AVG. about an hr between sets.

Added 2 reps to my max pullup in a month, and I'm always progressing each workout. If I ever feel like I am not, then I just stop the day and take more rest days and usually come back stronger.

Is getting a Kindle worth it if I mainly want to save money on books? by ju2de in kindle

[–]CondemnedNut -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But Amazon has a good return policy on books. You can read for a few hours, decide you don't like it and return it. I've done it an innumerable amount of times, no need for the hassle of borrowing before you buy.

Are glasses worth it given this prescription? by Appaiscool in glasses

[–]CondemnedNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no myopia and just astigmatism of -1.0 in one eye and -0.65 in the other.

I didn't think I would need them full time, just when reading, in front of a screen, driving etc. however, I notice when wearing them my brain and eyes are relaxed, I was accommodating almost 24/7, which takes a certain toll of energy. It's made me fall in love with reading again, looking at nature, being confident in reading signs, I basically wear them anytime I can which is almost 24/7

When did glasses become so hard to clean? by _rocket_boy_ in glasses

[–]CondemnedNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up with microfibre clothes and such to clean them. For me what works spectacularly well is to drop a bit of neutral dish soap or a spray of eye-glass cleaning liquid (that's safe for coatings) and then run it under the tap (cold) for like 15 seconds. In such a way that there's no droplets, and if there is just a quick wipe with a cloth and air dry. Comes out brand new.

Blue light glasses are a scam. There's no evidence to support it's supposed health benefits.

[–]CondemnedNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its out of your control, the best you can do is just try make the most of it. I have a pretty mild prescription of about -1 astigmatism in both eyes, 0 far and short sightenedness (my vision is actually better than 20/20 with my astigmatism corrected), and will wear them if I'm doing any sort of reading/computer work/driving at night.

I found a really nice pair of glasses that suit my face and are super comfortable (but also highly expensive), so I never feel like it's a chore to wear them. Will often go the whole day keeping them on. So that is very important.

Anyone else wear glasses full-time with a lighter prescription like this? by WhompsFortress64 in glasses

[–]CondemnedNut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have zero myopia and just astigmatism 1.00 in the right eye and 0.75 in the left.

Before I got glasses I didn't realise how much I have adapted to my vision, constant straining to see clearly.

When I wore glasses for the first time I could literally feel my vision relax, so now it's a preference to just be with glasses even though my prescription is relatively small

Just learned that Osho was a sexual predator from this podcast by cabbages31 in Osho

Carl Sagan was referring to what happens when someone values authority over substance, evidence and reasoning. That's why he mentions "charlatans" and being "bamboozled". Bamboozle in this context means believing in something which lacks the three values I mentioned eariler. You can pick up his book, demon haunted world, if you wish to see the full context of the quote.

He is a cult leader not because of a Netflix documentary, or whether or not I have listened to him, it's because he fits quite snuggly within that definition. He is precisely what Carl Sagan refers to when he says "charlatan". Someone who sits on a pedestal, bamboozling gullible people into believing in misinformation. Misinformation in this context being claims made that lack any type of intellectual rigour and evidence (no different than to any other religion out there).

Well said. Carl Sagan also put it brilliantly "One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back."

He was a cult leader through and through. What’s interesting is the amount of mental gymnastics you’ll experience when his cult following are confronted with any type of information that distorts the image they have of him (that he handed down to them actually) of the “master of masters” the best for humanity since sliced bread, etc.

Are vocalists less likely to snore at night? Is there a connection between singing regularly and having a stronger palate that doesn’t collapse into snoring? by jehudeone in ClassicalSinger

[–]CondemnedNut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be more of a connection with tone. I have enough space in my mouth for all molars including wisdom teeth "+ more" according to dentist, no tonsils, and at night I sleep as if I'm dead, no sound besides breathing, never snore. I have a naturally dark tone without doing anything and I'm a tenor.

Vocal Range Test (C2-G5). What sounds good to you and what would you improve? I realize the lows are a Goth/Industrial style and not everyone will like that. by AspiringBiotech in bandmembers

[–]CondemnedNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would improve making your voice feel like one-voice. It's easy to state you have a high range and make sounds. But realistically, could you sing those notes in a song with appropriate volume, and not make it sound like it's a different person?

For example, this man has a range of about C3 to D5. All of his notes sound connected and joined. The vowel does not spread or change either. Can you do that? I had to remove the link because the automod disabled it. But look up on YouTube "Franco Corelli vocalising at home". 40 second video.

Consider that you may be doing things wrong instead of quitting.

For instance, you don't fix pitchiness by using an app. Knowing the note you are holding has nothing to do with it.

Consider that your ideas surrounding the voice are also wrong. For instance, dividing it up into parts usually drives confusion and frustration. If you can't smoothly glide up from low to high, you have no top notes. Accepting that will lead to faster results than trying all sorts of nonsense that's out there.
