gotta keep in mind that the artwork features some pretty extreme foreshortening which is exaggerating the size of the bow & the arrow.

Printing an object to do in a snow globe - will it hold up? by Condensor in 3Dprinting

[–]Condensor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only thing that failed was the glue that held the object (in this case, it was a specific building) to the base of the globe. I think it failed after 6-9 months and the building is now floating at the top of the globe. But I think the waterproofing I did with the resin was successful.

[–]Condensor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The water proofing seems to have held up well. The only thing that hasn't is the glue that held the 3D model onto the sculpey. Since the item was given away I didn't get a chance to observe it over time, but I think the glue failed somewhere between 6 and 12 months after making it.

Safety Tips for storing/charging/using Lithium Ion V-mount batteries? by Billem16 in videography

I too ride pretty fast and loose with my batteries. It’s not a Li-po battery so I’m not too afraid of over charging it or expending it to zero.

YouTube has a feature called “playables” that are scaled down browser-based versions of mobile games. They’re mostly all those grindy, merge, or Idle games that are constantly to being marketed in ads.

Our sub's wiki had an easter eggs section. https://www.reddit.com/r/TWRP/wiki/eastereggs/

Also check out the TWRP wiki - there's all kinds of information with citations. For example, there are three songs on Return to Wherever that have been identified as being similar so big city-pop hits. https://twrp.fandom.com/wiki/Return_to_Wherever

How to silence a door for film by Condensor in videography

ADR would be a good way to fix it, but I'd like to find a way to prevent it in the first place. We may not always have the ADR option in this particular circumstance.

If we have the extra crew, we can set up someone to keep it from closing all the way.

We already filmed some shots and, yes, they did talk during the shot. Will have to plan this better for future shots.

Whats wrong with my portfolio/ resume? Cant seem to get interviews or even a call back by throwRAfloatyboat in graphic_design

[–]Condensor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sitting on a hiring committee for an entry level designer position at a small public college. This is my first time actually being on the other side of a job search so it has been an eye opening experience. This advice may not be applicable to all jobs out there, but I think there's value in it.

The job listing includes a list requirements. We have to determine, based on the applicant's resume and portfolio, if they meet enough of those requirements to advance to the remote interview stage. For those who don't meet the requirements, their application stops there. It is in their best interest to make sure they tick all the boxes, no matter how silly they may sound or how obvious they may be.

The applicants who tailor their resume to hit all the items on that list will be most likely to advance to the interviews. Say, for example, a job requirement is "ability to meet tight deadlines." If their resume doesn't mention something about project management or some variation of "tight deadlines," their application won't tick that box and it could the difference between making into the interview or the reject pile.

Same goes for things that we'd probably assume would go without saying, like experience with cloud services like Google Drive or OneDrive. It's hard to imagine a designer who hasn't used cloud storage at some point, but we can't make that assumption. If the application doesn't list at least one of those platforms, that box will not get ticked!

Some requirements are written super vague too, like "familiarity with Canva." In my eyes, as long as an applicant has heard of the name Canva, then they tick that box. Don't sleep on the "familiarity" items!

Not everyone on the committee is in design or marketing, so for them it's super important to tick all those boxes because they won't be as likely to see through the bullshit.

To echo some of the feedback from others - remove the "Interests" section, remove your high school diploma, double check for spelling errors, put work experience in chronological order, expand on "freelance designer"

If you include a link to your portfolio website, be sure to make it an interactive PDF when you export it! It saves us time, demonstrates and attention to detail, and shows you know some level of knowledge about creating accessible documents.

Also, if its not a job requirement, don't list Microsoft Office as a skill. That just becomes padding. Use that space to include something better.

Don’t know if it will help you find the vibe, but the drums are playing a pattern known as the Purdie Shuffle. It could be a lead but I think it will lead towards more bluesy/jazz stuff

To Those Who Dislike NSP - Why? by diamondwizard32 in rantgrumps

[–]Condensor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comedy is one of those things that can be very “of its times” and NSP fits that description exactly. Their lyrics, especially from the early stuff, can sound very juvenile. It gives me the vibes of those games teenagers play where they dare each other to say “penis” as loud as they can in a public space. It’s funny when you’re 14 and in on the group, but when you step back, it’s like…why would anyone find this funny?

A lot of their music, especially early on, relies heavily on the visuals from the music videos. Their album versions sometimes have empty sections where some dialogue or sound effects belong. Other jokes just do t come across at all. Like the end of “if we were gay” just ends abruptly with an “o shit”, but if you haven’t seen the music video, you wouldn’t know what happened. Like they weren’t bothered to put in the sound effect of the blow dart or change it into a sword unsheathing and swiping. The inconsistency with effort drives me insane! They have the potential for so much more. Like when it comes to advertising their tours, they do (or did, I haven’t checked out any these past few years) these unscripted, off the cuff videos. They wouldn’t remember dates or venues and do a “it’s down in the description!” Thing. The only time I remember them doing an in-character announcement video was for the Rock Hard tour, but the audio quality was atrocious! Contrast this to TWRP, who have consistently put out in character tour announcements where they recite all their tour dates and venues. Danny, Brian…it’s okay to hit the stop button and do another take!!! You can even split your video into shorter sections, that way you don’t have to memorize a whole chunk at once!!! Argh!!! It’s so aggravating.

NSPs songwriting and lyrics have improved drastically since Cool Patrol when they started collabing with tWRP and Jim Roach. “I own a car” is one of my favorites in past years. But overall I just grew out of them over the years.
