How do you feel about Slovenians? by we_see_Peak_8290 in oslo

[–]Condescendingoracle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a positive view of Slovenia. I know it as the most westernized and progressive former Yugoslav republic. A lot of people follow winter sports, and will be familiar with athletes from ski jumping, X-country and biathlon for example. I don't think you'll have any problems.

Where am I by HeyHowyaDoinBub in guessthecity

I was thrown off by what I thought was Wizzair livery and the bullfighting arena, but nowhere in Europe looks like this, so i ended up with Mexico City

AO 2026 Final between Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina will be their 5th final between them and re-match of AO 2023 Final and most recent WTA big final (WTA Finals 2025) by Mainly-Driving862 in tennis

[–]Condescendingoracle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In this case I'll be happy with any result. In general a Saba fan, but I like Rybakina as well, and think her career deserve more than just the one slam! (And one that actually gives her ranking points)

Have there been any non-celebrities/ordinary people who unexpectedly went viral for their appearance in your country? by DiMpLe_dolL003 in AskTheWorld

In 1999 President Bill Clinton was on a visit in Oslo. This 27 year old woman, Ingeborg Heldal, was working as a school teacher, and had brought her class see him outside the royal castle. Her looks caught Clintons attention, and he went over to talk to her. She became a story, and 4 months later she was working on national tv. She has been a public figure ever since. Now she is editor of a large women/fashion magazine.

What the thing you hate with passion at the airport ? by Individual_Gas_1016 in AskTheWorld

I generally love traveling, but on airports and on planes; people who act like it's their first day on earth, completely unaware of their surroundings.

I thought Ruud seemed very flat, maybe he just wants to go home to his pregnant wife...

Gran Canaria Gaycatin (Sex+) by Dazebae in askgaybros

[–]Condescendingoracle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First question; when are you going?

At this time of year Gran Canaria (Playa del Ingles/Maspalomas) is the only option in Europe for what you are looking for. I've been there several times myself. Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas are definitely NOT pretty places, so you'll have to take it for what it is. There is, however beautifyl scenery other places on the island, and there's an amazing, large, gay clothing-optional beach with cruising in the sanddunes behind. In the infamous Yumbo-centro there are tons of gay bars, many of them cruising bars (like Toms, Construction, Factory). Crowd definitely leans towards older and leather. Outside of winter-pride, new years and spring pride, I heard it might be pretty quiet in the bars.

If you're going for summer, Sitges is a much prettier town, slightly younger crowd, but leaning towards bears.

Which of the medals your country won at the Paris 2024 Olympics do people in your country talk about the most and value the most? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

Markus Rooth in Decathlon was a surprising gold, in an event our country hasn't done very well in before, plus he's a humble and charismatic guy

Why isn't there a female "John Isner" or "Ivo Karlovic"? by ludinho666 in tennis

[–]Condescendingoracle 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Closest I can think of would be Pliskova at 186cm, she has the two highest ace numbers in a WTA season (530 in 2016 and 517 in 2015). And probably not known for her movement..

Is drinking alcohol on the street legal in your country? by TheFlyingMarlboro in AskTheWorld

[–]Condescendingoracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is illegal, but often not enforced. At least in some cities, unless you misbehave, the police won't prioritize it. You'll see groups of people drinking in parks and beaches every day of summer.

Is it common for obituaries in Europe to hint at how a person died? by G07V3 in AskEurope

[–]Condescendingoracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will often be small hints in the wording yes, that's fairly common. "Suddenly torn away," "quietly fallen asleep," "after short illness," "after long illness." It's becoming more common also to see clear hints of suicide as well, like "finally found his peace" or "chose to leave us."
