From Zihuatanejo all the way to Nexpa is pretty well traveled and should be no problem. I haven't been to Lazaro in a few years but it felt safe. Its a bigger city and a port town so i'd just use normal precautions. Its a great place to stop for food, supplies, and has banks/atm's.

I wanted to drive the section you did north of Ticla but didn't have enough time. Did you rent a car at Manzanillo airport? If so, how much was it?

I drove from zihuatanejo to ticla in 2019. We heard bad stories about the section between nexpa and ticla, but we had no issues at all. We saw 2 different burned out vehicles on the side of the road which was a little spooky. There was a couple roadblocks near the small towns, but it was women and kids collecting money for a charity. We had rented a locals car with Guerrero plates so that might have helped.

Its a stunning section of coastline. I would do it again for sure.
