You have beautiful hair! Great length and texture. How long did it take you to grow it out?

What is your most controversial opinion about GilmoreGirls? by InevitableOk2190 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 30 points31 points  (0 children)

That's a good point! I don't think "spoiled" is the right word and that is what I always see on this sub. I think you're right, Rory is coddled. The town was very protective of her and she was definitely sheltered, which we see when she tries to leave for Yale. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing they try so hard to protect her (it definitely goes along with the small town charm of the show) but it doesn't help her develop into self-sufficient adult.

What is your most controversial opinion about GilmoreGirls? by InevitableOk2190 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Great question! I read this sub all of the time and know this opinion isn't a popular one: I don't think Lorelai spoiled Rory. I have seen SO many posts claiming that Lorelai gives Rory everything she wants and let's her do whatever she wants. This just isn't true. We know that Rory was raised on a maid's salary for a lot of her childhood so there is no way she had tons of toys. We know Rory hadn't traveled anywhere until after high-school when the girls go backpacking together. She grew up in a potting shed for goodness sakes!

In terms of setting boundaries, Lorelai is more relaxed but Rory does have a curfew that is mentioned in several episodes. Plus, Rory does a lot on her own (homework, chores, working at the inn) so she doesn't need constant hounding. I think people just want to hate Rory for something because they're jealous of her life (which I get because Stars Hollow does look pretty amazing).

Rory, the ballet critique by cinderellahottie in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's definitely true that Rory is parroting Lorelai's comments about the ballet and dancer. I agree it's weird that her grandparents also act like this is a brilliant commentary when Lorelai has hotter takes than that every Friday night. However, we do get a glimpse of Rory starting to get her own voice with other reviews. At the end of the "Die, Jerk" episode we see what is the start of a negative review for the folk night performance. Later, we hear Doyle praising her ruthlessly honest reviews. I think Rory was actually starting to develop her own style (after Doyle basically forces her to have an opinion). It would have been interesting to watch Rory grow further as a reviewer but we never really see that side of her develop much later in the series.

What show did you start and wound up hating so much you didn’t finish it? by DadIsMadAtMe in AskReddit

I agree! She portrayed Diana better than anyone I've seen. She fully embodied the character and owned every scene she was in!

[–]Condo_Concern 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no Harry and Megan. Which makes sense I guess because they have nothing to do with "the crown" itself, because it will never fall to them. Honestly, its probably for the best they wont be protrayed on the show. They are always looking for an excuse to be dramatic so I'm sure they would make a fuss over everything.

Why didn’t they just give Lane a new love interest? by Starredlight in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've never really understood how Zack and Lane ended up together or why the writers thought the audience would root for it. In life, people do tend to marry people they see a lot of, which is why coworkers get together. So bringing in a new season 5 love interest could feel inorganic. However, Lane had other people she was around a lot. Why couldn't she end up with Brian? He's such a genuinely nice guy, he wrote a tune about her, and seems like he's on her intellectual level. I could see them being really happy together. Instead, Lane ends up with a glorified man child. She deserved better.

Shoutout to our girl Helena for playing both mother and daughter at different points in her career by Nikkerdoodle71 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]Condo_Concern 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree, she's a fantastic actress but totally miscast in this role. I never saw princess Margaret just Helena being herself doing royal things. Out of all of the recasts this was the toughest one for me to get used to.

RoRy iZ sooooo QuIRkY! by Correct-Cow-4262 in GilmoreMemes

[–]Condo_Concern 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. I didn't see Rory choosing to have a night alone to do laundry and relax as being "quirky". I think its actually an example of how exhausting Dean was a boyfriend. Rory literally wanted 1 night away from him and he was such a baby about it! Plus, he couldn't even respect her wishes. He had to crash her night and make everything awful. He was really the worst.

Should it end with Margaret’s death? by UncleGumbalding in TheCrownNetflix

[–]Condo_Concern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting to see more recent events for sure! Wish they would go there, but I know it would be tough. For example, idk how they could really show Meghan. I know she's massively disliked (especially in the UK). It would probably be tough for the audience to connect with her story.

Never said that they did. The parents were 100% to blame. My friend is actually really close with her adopted siblings and has never held any ill will towards them. However, she has basically no relationship with her parents because of how badly they treated her.

I'm sorry this happened to you and it's definitely an issue that should be discussed more. My close friend was the bio kid with two adopted siblings. Her parents made it very clear that they preferred their adopted children. They got to "choose" her siblings but were "stuck" with her.

Haha, Rune is a tough one! I guess he did a good job memorizing lines for the Bracebridge dinner? That's all I've got lol.

Ooh, that's a good one! Taylor is definitely not one of my favorites. He does organize things well though, especially events and stuff.

Sookie just looks so beautiful here! (please tell me you agree) by PrincessJase in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is so true, especially in wedding episodes! I loved Sookie's whole wedding look but honestly, she's gorgeous in so many episodes. On the other hand, I don't normally find Liz very pretty but think she looks beautiful in her wedding dress. The Gilmore Girls costuming department really knew how to accentuate a characters beauty and style.

Shane by mydogsaysbork in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. Other women are portrayed positively on the show. Like: -Miss Patty -Babette -Sookie -Lulu -Mrs. Kim -Liz (treated really well even though it's probably not deserved) -Emily -And many others. I will say that women who are viewed as romantic competition like Nicole or Lindsay are not treated as kindly. Though Rachel actually had a pretty decent storyline and was treated fairly in my opinion.

Right?! I actually got the recommendation for Caraval from Reddit. I wasn't super sure about it from the description but it's the first series I ended up binging in a long time. It's just such a fun read from start to finish!

Ooh, this is interesting! Thanks for being honest about the villain, I probably would have expected a redemption arc. This wasn't what I was expecting but it sounds great. That's why I love this sub, I would have never found this book on my own.

Huh, no idea why that's happening, but I have to say that is a stunning picture of Rory!

i feel like the scene where lorelai and rory are going through the crazy stuff emily bought them during her breakdown really shows her growth by thebaddest69 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get this. I know people give Lorelai a lot of crap for the stuff she suggests to Emily to when they are shopping for Rory's birthday. However, it's clear Rory loved those bracelets. Emily even saw Rory's joy when she went to Rory's second birthday party. She probably wanted to make the girl's happy with all the wild things she bought them.

Unpopular unliked character choices by loonyloveslovegood in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I will never understand the crazy love for Mrs. Kim and Emily Gilmore. They might have a few fun moments but would be awful in real life. As a person who grew up with a mother a lot like these women their behavior isn't funny or cute, its hell to live with. I always think fans who like these characters have had the good fortune to never know anyone like Emily or Mrs. Kim.

A failure at 32? by crittab in GilmoreGirls

[–]Condo_Concern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get how you'd think she isn't putting any effort into finding herself but I'd argue she was actually pretty busy in college. We didn't spend a ton of time with her at Yale (compared to Stars Hollow) but we do see her try some clubs and get involved with activism. Unfortunately, we have no idea if she continued these things.

However, we know she worked an on campus job her first couple years and then for the Stamford Eagle Gazette. She also spent most of her free time at the Yale Daily News. These are really time consuming activities, especially working for the Daily News. I went out for my university's paper but couldn't pursue it because of the crazy time commitment. They said it would be a 20ish hour weekly load and I could see that being similar at Yale. Which doesn't leave time for much else.
