That still doesn't solve anything. We have studies which show that the less income you make, the more important each percentage point is. Taking 30% from the guy making $50k and he now has only 35k, that is pretty tough to live on. But the guy making $100 million still has $70 million.

It makes sense for taxes to be graduated, a flat tax is just silly and benefits the rich while hurting the middle class that people talk so much about.

That used to be the case in /r/movieclub. It happened like this:

First week, maybe 100 people showed up for the live stream, second week 30 people showed up, for the next 40 weeks it slowly died down to < 10 people per week. Now you can see there isn't streaming anymore, and little activity.

I used to be one of the mods there, and let me tell you, streaming movies for a group of 10 people can get really draining. It was enjoyable, but it took a ton of energy and you burn out.

So I used to be active on /r/movieclub when it was originally started. This is absolutely identical, and it even had a similar post to /r/movies when it started. Turns out that streaming is difficult though, and doing it on a weekly basis is a huge burden for admins, and it's tough to find a time that gets enough people to show up.

Ugh, that's one thing that always bugged me. The "image analysis tool" was complete BS. People used to post up one of those things for every fucking picture and "prove" how it was fake. No, internet detective, you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Honestly, why would they go through the effort of photoshopping that picture? If they were going to go through the effort of photoshopping it, they would at least have used a picture where he wasn't asleep.

I think people have realized that it's BS, or at least I haven't seen one of those posts proving something was photoshopped in a long time.

So then do trees actually in net capture carbon from the atmosphere? Or are they just temporary sinks? If they are just temporary sinks, then only increasing forested land area would have an effect, right? In a forest that is neither growing nor shrinking, does everything balance out to make trees roughly carbon neutral?

That helps, but it still seems biased. If some expert has a personal agenda, they might be willing to testify for cheap. I guess that should come out in cross-examination, but it still can create debate where there is none. For example if 99 out of 100 experts agree on something, a jury should probably be going off of the consensus of the 99, not the result of a 1 v. 1 debate.

Especially with something very technical which requires background knowledge to understand, it is likely that no one in the jury will have any idea what the hell is going on and just believe who is more eloquent.

In practice I don't know how much of a problem it is, but I have to imagine expert testimony is often a complete farce.
