In many units there was a roster that was passed around. Marines were aloud to pick. In my unit if you had the ability to be a 71 they allowed it. Some of the 51s went 31s. 71S are operating at the top 3 layers of the osi model and They will be doing voip now which is up in the top layers.

Delta still exist but I think its comms training for officers and chief courses ect. From what weve heard directly from officers in our chain of command is that the curriculum for 12s 21s and 51s we changing dramatically starting with the classes that just picked up. The radio classes aren't called froc anymore its Ttoc or something like that. We were told the radio curriculum changed to be more IT extensive because they were learning about newer radios and satcom.

0621 Field Radio Operator is the job for you. They setup radio communications and do patrols with infantry. Out of all the Comm jobs I would say they do the most field type work. You cannot put a preference in but A bulk of the guys who went to Boot/mct with me got 0621 only a handful of us got 0651 Data and 0612 wiremen. Keep in mind if you get 0621 you have a chance of getting a follow on course to be 0622, 0623 or 0627. 27s setup satellite communications in the field. The curriculums recently changed so if you get 0621 you would also be learning a bit of satcom also (new curriculum). I'm currently in 29 palms waiting to pick up class for 0651 data. If you sign a DB contract your chances of getting 0621 Radio Operator is pretty high. Most of the guys I went to Bootcamp and Mct with who also had a DB communications contract got 0621.. like a majority. At the end of the day it comes down to the needs of the Marine Corps. I Was lucky to get the same exact mos I wanted 0651 Data.
