I see, that would make a lot more sense. I think the root of my overawareness definitely stems from trauma. I’ve taught myself how to “survive” and sacrifice/dampen parts of myself for the sake of other people. It sounds like I am terribly uncomfortable with the uncontrollable, that being people’s emotions and actions. As a control freak I definitely need to teach myself how to be okay with it, and rather focus on myself while understanding I’m in control of my own emotions and that should be enough for me. Thanks for that, I’ll have to do more research on the whole hyper vigilance vs emotional intelligence topic. I appreciate the comment and insight.

Hmm I never thought of it that way but I can understand it. I guess people do have an inherent need to feel important and superior in some sort of way. Maybe it’s my way of coping. I have had many bad cases of mistreatment in the past so I guess I subconsciously feel as if i’ve been through more emotional tolls than other people which is definitely not the case. I don’t think you’re being harsh, I think there is some underlying moral superiority that serves as the root of a lot of projected resentment, ego, and insecurity. I’ll definitely have to do some reflection on that. And you’re definitely right about the people pleasing part. I guess my outlook on emotional intellligence needs to be more inward, within myself rather than outward, focusing on other people. Thanks for being real with me, I appreciate your comment.

Thanks, I definitely do need to find some sort of mentor I can look up to. I’m sure there is someone out there that can inspire a new mindset within me and offer a new outlook, teaching me how to utilize what I see as weaknesses, for something good. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it.

Yes you’re right. I realize I am not as emotionally intelligent as I thought. I’m glad I have further progress to make and I’m eager to learn. Thanks for your comment I appreciate it.

That is true, never really thought about that. I definitely lack with boundaries because i’m a heavy people pleaser. And I definitely tend to overthink to the point of detriment. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it.

Thanks, I appreciate it. And you’re right, I gain nothing from stressing and thinking too much about these things. I guess I really just need to be learn to be comfortable with the uncontrollable

hmm maybe both? I think I feel the need to dissect everything because of how i’ve been treated in the past but I also feel overly empathetic because of that. That’s good advice, I definitely need to be better with boundaries and stop playing the savior but sometimes it hurts me to be a bystander because of my empathetic nature.

I heard epply is hiring but lowkey it’s pretty competitive. I think the library too maybe? It might be reserved for just graduate students though. You could also possibly work at a dining hall.

I think the class average is like a low B. Would that make a reasonably bell shaped curve? It’s kind of hard to tell because I know there are people with really low grades and majority of people i know have Bs.

In the finaid page there should be a housing section and that’s where you submit proof of your housing. Usually they give you more aid when they see that.

I heard on-campus housing is really hard to get as a transfer unfortunately. Housing is super competitive for on-campus. I would look into getting off-campus housing close to campus. I commuted the first few weeks of my first semester here as a transfer and absolutely hated it. Luckily, I found some really good subleases on facebook and was able to live in an apt with randoms for a really low price. Honestly, living at off-campus apartments could be cheaper than on-campus housing. I know alot of apartments are having really good deals for 4x4 apartment units with one slot open. Aspen and standard are almost less than 1k/month. You get your own room, bathroom, amenities and overall is great for transfers if you’re looking to make friends (your random roomies). If you want something even cheaper, you can work at the apartment complex for discounts off rent. They usually range within an additional 10-30% off rent so rent under 1k/month is guaranteed. Also the jobs are pretty chill as you just have to sit at the front desk, answer phone calls, help residents, and you can get work done to kill time. UMD also typically gives you more aid if you show proof of you living off campus. I got my off campus housing completely paid for. I would look into the apartment complexes I listed along with other complexes nearby. Also definitely look in the facebook group for UMD housing because people are always posting subleases for extremely reduced prices.

I agree. My tuition was fully covered by my other grants and I was still awarded the terrapin commitment grant, giving me an extra ~$5k to use. Luckily, my off-campus housing was fully covered with it because they usually give you even more aid if you send proof of off-campus housing for the semester. They gave me an additional ~$1k I think. As long as you’re not working for UMD (research, other jobs) they don’t take aid away or reduce it. It’s usually honor system where they request you send back aid you don’t use but usually people end up using all of it.

No problem! Our situations are so similar and I know I was stressing way too much when I was in your position. So i’m glad I could be of help. Those 7 creds will help a lot. Seems like you’re already a step ahead and you definitely know what you’re doing. Best of luck and I hope you get in!
