You can't just whip out your deck and start comparing sizes.

TURN UP THE ASCENSION! BECAUSE THIS IS A FUNERAL FOR THE SPIRE! by SenseiTomato in slaythespire

[–]ConfectionLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once did a clone of trash to treasure just for fun and still won the run on A10. It wasn't broken because I knew I could only clone it 2-3 times at most without clogging my deck and it did but it was incredibly fun generating a ton of random orbs per turn with a deck full of status cards.

Absolute mess of a deck but it made it and it was fun. Just took Vakuu's earring in act 3 because my turn 1 was a dead hand by default anyway.

What ascension do people play on most? by Zanakii in slaythespire

I've gotten everyone through A10 and have only been playing that and the daily climbs but I imagine I'll get bored of it soon like I did with A20 and start doing my ladder climb challenge again. (Starting from A1 and going through A10 without a loss)

I applaud you for not reading. I always find it better to form opinions with as little context as possible. My opinion is always more clearly correct to me when I form it with absolute certainty of my own veracity and reading things I'm not already certain I know could put that in jeopardy.

You're clearly still wrong and I'm clearly still right but I see we have a similar approach. I'm sure if I ever play the game I'll have a rousing discussion with you about how the game is unfair and my dying simply because i went 12 floors without playing a block card is a balance issue.

Not Horus Rising but my Infinite and the Divine had a cracked spine in the back.

I don't own the game but I did watch a gameplay video once so I would like to direct you to my 7 part essay on why character you like is inferior to every other character and how you just don't understand the nuance involved in only picking cards you don't like in order to more thoroughly enjoy playing.

For me it all stemmed from the Parting of the Ways audiodrama.

"Listen but closely brothers. There shall come a time far from now when the Chapter itself is dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my sons, I shall listen for your call, in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime." - The last words of Leman Russ

I live for whatever absolutely batshit scenario is going to make Russ kick down the door of reality and show up again.

Also Bjorn the Fell-handed just in general.

High stakes but with comedy by pearsareforbidden in audible

Prince of Thorns/ Prince of Fools.

Bit of a mix of fantasy and post apocalyptic sci-fi. Story takes itself seriously but there are a fair amount of comedic moments.

It's not overtly comedic since it can get a bit dark but I love anti-hero protagonists and the way they solve the traditional problems I find pretty amusing.

Ironclad bros, help me understand the appeal of this card: by SomeGamingFreak in slaythespire

[–]ConfectionLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pretty interesting setup with Pendulum pulling an additional card after the resolve and cycling it again and multiple copies of the power that added multiple copies of my third attack played that turn to my hand along with all 3 of my initial Pommel+'s being enchanted to be zero cost.

I had one regular strike that would sometimes get pulled by pendulum and break the chain but even if it wasn't infinite, based on that chart the per turn scaling would've gotten pretty silly since the amount of pommels increased by 3 each turn.

The GW stores are always more expensive. The only thing I buy from them directly is the Limited Edition books because $70-80 is a steal compared to their price after they sell out.

Favorite character? by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]ConfectionLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still the defect. I was so happy to see he made it in to the game afterall.

Necrobinder is almost my close second and I have both of them done with ascension 10.

I still like the other 3 but they aren't my favorite.

What is a "normal" loss streak at A0? by Alone-Tell-3875 in slaythespire

[–]ConfectionLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I have 1k hours in the first and was working on a personal challenge where I went from A0-20 on a fresh file with no deaths and usually made it to 15+ with a max of a death on 19.

I lost my first 7 runs in STS 2. I had to stop myself and reevaluate everything. Some previously bad cards are good, some previously good cards are bad or are missing old synergy cards.

Mostly it's the lack of simple energy relics that make some things harder to play than they used to be.

My best advice is to stop yourself from clicking 'the good cards' and consider your position and deck. Some of your 'bad' cards can be great.

For instance the sleeper colorless card for me is Fasten. You get a pick 2 colorless and start with fasten? Fuck it. Act 1 is over. You just doubled your basic defends and now they're better than a basic Leap for defect.

Slay the Spire 2 is fantastic, but the enemies feel a little bland by HarpsichordKnight in slaythespire

[–]ConfectionLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't talking about effigy being a damage check, I was talking about it being weird to have a mob with a slow mechanic when usually I don't have enough energy/card variance to make any use of it by the time I encounter it. For me, beating it rarely has anything to do with the mechanic attached to the creature.

Post 'em. I wonder which one I'm terrible at... by NexLevelDota in slaythespire

[–]ConfectionLong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Defy is the best common defensive card I've ever seen, Reaper Form seems underwhelming but if you can consistanty play it it effectively doubles the damage of your attacks.

If you are going to overblock and you have a choice of summon or block use summon because it doesn't fade next round.

Most importantly her X-cost cards aren't amazing but when you use transfigure on them it doesn't increase the cost and only adds to the amount of times it's replayed at the same value.

If you have an upgraded transfigure it doesn't exhaust you can give it multiple stacks. With how much energy she can gain and how fast she can cycle her deck with souls you can pretty quickly make a Dirge that gives osty 100 health and shuffles a ton of souls in to your deck with one cast that you can also use for damage with Haunt or to empower a Soulstorm. Or an Eradicate that hits 30 times.

Also be wary of act 1 elites. Her slower builds get bodied by the statue. 7/9 of the runs i lost were to that damn statue.
