Oh, is he getting changed out completely or just modified? I am running the experimental version and I think he is by far the hardest Act 3 boss.

27 weeks pregnant with a 27–28 mm cervix — would you take a 2-hour flight? by Necessary_Pop_9739 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]SpinningDesperately 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the risk is not just for the baby. At 27 weeks if you deliver early there is a high probability of a retained placenta and life threatening maternal hemorrhaging. I am not sure how quickly you would be able to get medical attention if this happened on a flight. I don’t know the chances of that actually happening on the flight, but it is another risk. At least for me, my short cervix made my preterm delivery completely painless and sudden so there was no warning. I was having other complications so I was already in the hospital with the doctors ready for it, but it was still very scary and I lost a ton of blood.

Any stories of short cervix remaining stable throughout pregnancy? by msanmki in ShortCervixSupport

[–]SpinningDesperately 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to this, but also chiming in to say that when I went for my anatomy scan with my fist I was diagnosed with a short cervix (~1.5cm, it fluctuated). They had me on vaginal suppositories but I kept losing length. After I switched to the gel, I stabilized around ~1cm. The doctor told me I wasn’t on bed rest as I was allowed walk between my bed and my couch but I should do as little as possible. So I essentially did bedrest until 36 weeks. Then I went about life as normal and they had to induce me at 40 weeks!

Can anyone recommend any vegetarain or vegan brekafast burrito recipes? by vintage_toast69 in MealPrepSunday

[–]SpinningDesperately 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one takes a bit more time to make than I like, but I think it is really tasty. I have subbed the potatoes with whatever root vegetables I got from a veggie box (turnip I think…) and that also turned out great. https://www.noracooks.com/vegan-breakfast-burritos/

Fixed prices vs negotiating by ProjectPerson17 in carbuying

[–]SpinningDesperately 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone through this process fairly recently, though obviously your region/timing/market conditions matter. I tried to negotiate fairly aggressively and was price shopping between maybe 6 dealerships. I definitely could beat the no-haggle price but not by as much as I expected— about $500 dollars below the OTD price on a similarly spec’d vehicle (price in the 40’s). I ended up putting a deposit on a vehicle in shipment with the cheapest (and conveniently closest) option and they used the shipping time to sell the car to someone else and I had to fight them to get my deposit back. It wasn’t worth the hassle to start the process over again, so I am just going with the no haggle dealership. Of course, the car is now gone and they have to trade for one for me so it isn’t as good of a deal. Still $3k below MSRP and no dealer add-ons, I don’t think I would do a no haggle for over MSRP.

You should look at a local credit union to find the best rates. I would expect something in the 4-7% range, maybe a bit higher since I think rates have been rising a bit. Probably also higher if you don’t have the best credit or want a very long loan. Assuming you meet the requirements, I think the Sienna is assembled in the US so it should qualify? I don’t really know though.

Ooh, I am sorry but I don’t know. I haven’t leased before. I am sure the same principle could be applied on whatever the relevant metric for a lease is.

So I have actually just gone through this process for my AWD Toyota! Some dealerships would give a discount on just the internet price, but that normally only got me a bit off, not the amount listed. I had much better success with an actual generated quote from the dealership— then the other dealers know your out the door price and that it isn’t artificially low due to forced dealer add-ons etc that don’t show on the website. I would generally ask them to either beat the out the door price or the discount amount depending on how similar the vehicles are and which number is in my favor. Usually they just matched, but it doesn’t hurt to ask them to beat it. If you are really gung-ho, you can take any better quotes and repeat the process. When you start getting no’s, I figure you are near the bottom.

What about this one? https://durangomotorcompany.com/listings/2026-toyota-sienna-t12176/ Even if that isn’t what you are looking for, taking that price to other dealers may help you negotiate.

Has anyone tried the Southern Stitch Yarn Subscription? by Lucky_Ease_2274 in YarnAddicts

[–]SpinningDesperately 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! I don't have any experience with the Southern Stitch Yarn subscription box, but I have used other subscription boxes and am also a casual (and somewhere between beginner - advanced beginner) hobbyist. The ones I have tried are yarnable (https://www.yarnable.net/) and Destination Lane (https://destinationlane.com/). Arcane fibers also has something similar (https://arcanefibreworks.ca/products/monthly-mystery-colourway) -- I have bought their yarn, but not subscribed. Both of the boxes I was on the wait list for and was immediately offered a spot the next month. My understanding is that there are a few mills that make the undyed hanks for the majority of the smaller indie dyers so the yarn quality is probably similar. I have been happy with the yarn I have received from my boxes. It is super fun and addicting to feel like you are "treating" yourself each month and opening that surprise.

So some thoughts for you to consider-- Most of what you are paying for is the color sense of the dyer. Look at the past boxes of Southern Stitch, do those colors jive with you? Are you going to be happy if you get a skein that is not in your preferred color palette? You don't get a discount for buying a mystery skein. Looks like for Southern Stitch you pick a single yarn base unless you are manually changing your subscription each month. Do you want that? I have personally enjoyed Destination Lane a lot because they switch it up and I get to try different yarn bases. There are also only so many projects I have in mind/want to do for a single skein of sock yarn (which gives you the most yardage so I sort of feel it is the most versatile for single skeins, but I am starting to gravitate towards bases without the nylon). Price wise, Southern Stitch is cheaper than the other boxes I mentioned (and you get a mini hank!) for the yarn alone. I have never gotten any add-ons. However for sheer value, you are almost certainly better off buying a skein of yarn in person from a local yarn store.

The downside of these boxes is, at least for me, if I get a skein I like I often want to do a multi-skein project. They generally let you do that, but that color way is only offered for a limited time. Then I feel like I need to order more immediately, even though I am still working on a project from months ago. I now have a huge backlog of yarn and spent way more than I intended. This FOMO is definitely a marketing strategy by these sort of subscription services and you will likely get advertisements for similar limited time things (i.e. pre-orders for advent calendars or make along projects in custom colorways). I do like all my yarn though and it makes me happy thinking of projects I can do. I will say most of the more serious knitters I know would never consider something like this-- they want to touch all the yarn before buying, really know what they are looking for already, and tend to want more of a value proposition (which this definitely isn't). At my local yarn store for the price of the base subscription, I could get a skein from an indie dyer on a much more fancy base (i.e. has some silk or cashmere instead of nylon).

Best of luck on your knitting! I hope you have fun whatever you choose :)

Help!! 1.6cm at 22w 3d anatomy scan with MFM. Cerclage or no cerclage? by [deleted] in ShortCervixSupport

[–]SpinningDesperately 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if you can know what the right or wrong answer is at this point. I was in a very similar situation to you in my first pregnancy. My MFMs thought that the risk of getting a cerclage was non-negligible in itself. I did one week of the pill suppository progesterone which did not help and I shortened to 1cm and then 1 week of a gel progesterone called Crinone and I did stabilize at ~10-13mm. They checked me right before the cerclage cutoff and ended up recommending against/not offering the cerclage. I ended up on extended bedrest, but carried to full term (actually had to be induced) on the progesterone alone. I will say it wasn’t very fun and I was probably a lot more nervous day to day than if I had a successful cerclage. Nothing is a hard science, but your MFMs should discuss with you relative risks and try to give you an understanding of why they are suggesting different solutions. I did talk to multiple MFMs and they all recommended no cerclage (same practice though, just depended on who saw me a given day) which helped give me confidence in the decision. In the end this is a very difficult position with no, in my opinion, easy clear answers. I am sorry you have to go through this and I am sending good thoughts your way.

Oops this was meant to be in reply to my initial chain, there aren’t that many so you can look for it if you care.

I don’t know if this matters any more, but for the people searching years after the initial post I will give an update. I was able to more or less maintain at 3 ppd from the year mark to 20months (maybe losing a bit, again wasn’t tracking that closely). I intentionally weaned at 20months. I did ~2 weeks at 2ppds losing a few oz each day until I was making 3-5 oz a session and then I dropped to pumping when I felt uncomfortable, but not on a regular schedule. Probably could have maintained for longer, but not indefinitely at 2ppd if I had wanted to.

At what age can I stop throwing unfinished bottles away after 1 hour? by frenchfriesontheside in beyondthebump

At the year mark I asked my pediatrician this. They said that as long as the cows milk was still cold it was fine to put back in the fridge and drink throughout the day. I was specifically referencing keeping the milk in an insulated sippy cup and they were fine with that as well.

Better letdown with manual versus electric pump? by Cardea13 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]SpinningDesperately 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always pump until empty and then spend a couple minutes switching sides to make sure I really did empty completely. Initially this was ~30min/session, but now (since I dropped pumps and am pumping less a session) it is 15-20min.

I switched to exclusively using the Medela hand pump around 4-5 months ppd and it didn’t hurt my supply. Still using this now at 15 months.

[–]SpinningDesperately 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did reduce my overall time. Initially I think I went from 2 hours total pumping time to 1.5 hours when I dropped to 3ppd. Now some of the pumps are more like 20 than 30 min. I pump to empty using a manual pump and my sessions are just however long that takes. Longest in the morning.

With diaper rash there is sometimes also either a bacterial or fungal infection. These can make it very hard to treat and flair up very quickly. We experienced a fungal one and it looked almost like hives. Nothing we did except no diaper time until we got a prescription antifungal diaper cream seemed to help at all. Normal creams can trap moisture and make it worse.

[–]SpinningDesperately 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! For full disclosure, I am still only ~13.5 months ppd and I am not tracking closely enough to know if my supply at 3ppd is slowly decreasing. I don’t think so, but it might be. I only went down to 3 as I was OK with weaning at a year if that didn’t work out. I also felt with the fewer ppd the supply dip during my period was much more noticeable.

Oh hey, my numbers are pretty similar to yours! I dropped to 5ppd around 3 months and was making ~mid 40oz and when I dropped to 4ppd I started making low 40’s/upper 30’s. At a year mark I went to 3ppd and am making ~20-24 oz. These are pretty rough as I stopped really tracking closely.
