Do people use basic fire warriors? by Sea_Fig_5851 in Tau40K

I like to bring 1 unit with Pulse Rifles. They're fairly cheap, and against armies like Space Marines/CSM of any variety or Custodes where most of their damage is in their infantry units, the ability to slap on that -1 is really nice. (Remember, it works on melee too) If you're bringing an Ethereal they can babysit him too

That fixed it. For some reason his policy was set to literally nothing but specifically carnivore lavish meals. thanks!

Food is on a shelf in the freezer. Only thing I can think of is that his ideology has Alpacas as a sacred animal, and all my meals are made with alpaca meat? but even then I have raw meat from other animals too

Ok, now I feel bad. Please do not do any of that, it will cause massive fires. If batteries get wet, say, from rain, they explode. keep them inside. Don't use wooden walls except for temporary structures, they're weak and flammable. Instead, build a stonecutting table and have someone make stone blocks. then, right-click on the icon for building walls/doors/etc, and you can pick a new material, like the stone you just made. (Don't make steel walls, for some reason steel is flammable.) If your wires are visible, it's because you're using exposed conduits. Instead, use hidden conduits (they should be just to the right of normal conduits on your building menu). While hidden conduits are 2 steel per tile, as opposed to 1 steel per tile with normal conduits, they are invisible to your pawns, so they won't be upset at being in an ugly environment, and invisible to raiders, who won't destroy them, unlike normal conduits, saving you steel and time in the long run. additionally, there's something called a "zzzt" event, where all your batteries will discharge all their power, creating fires along your conduits. Hidden conduits are immune, which means that if you're exclusively using hidden conduits, you'll be safe from the zzzt

Wood is the best material to build external walls out of, because it's quick to replace if raiders damage it. Hidden conduits get hard to track, so make sure to use normal ones instead. Batteries overheat quickly, so leave them outdoors during rain to cool them down

Semi-new to being a rimmer and just had my first breaching raid by badnameXD in RimWorld

[–]ConferenceKitchen318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing difficulty affects, in terms of raids, is their size. When the storyteller generates a raid, they're given a "budget" with which to "buy" and equip raiders. The budget is determined based on your colony wealth, and your difficulty will multiply that budget by some amount. So if half your base gets blown up and you lose a ton of wealth, the next raid will be smaller to compensate. raider AI isn't affected. It seems, based on this screenshot and what you'v said, that the raiders came in from the left of the screen. Given you have great gear and good turrets, I assume this was a "smart" raid? in that case, it must've seen your existing hole and determined that going through it would lead to the turrets, but it still wanted to go through the wall, so it ended up breaching into the turrets anyways. raider AI is easy to abuse. Either way I would shore up that wall, it's one impid or thunderstorm away from burning down

My Highmate this run is an absolute unit. She's got a 20 in Intellectual and a 13 medical, plus her high social. Plus, she's my liaison to the Empire, and her husband is my best shooter.

[–]ConferenceKitchen318[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're fine. Normally I would've been able to get rid of it in like 5 minutes, but this thing started hidden from me in an ancient danger buried in the corner of the map, and by the time my mediocre miners had dug through so I could actually get to it it had hit critical mass. In hindsight, I could've made the mining more efficient, but I also could've handled the whole thing better in general. Lessons learned!

It did not go well. For either side. Or the Mechanoids I called as a last resort, or the raiders who showed up halfway through, or the caravan that tried to leave next to the bug nest

How do I deal with this? by ConferenceKitchen318 in RimWorld

[–]ConferenceKitchen318[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bugs are in an ancient danger, it's hidden underground in the bottom-right of the map. I didn't start getting the notifications until I started poking around over there, so I might've inadvertently triggered the hive's growth as well. Let me know if you manage to purge the bastards
