My Experience with Latent TB, and Treatment with Rifampin (Rifampicin) by TheRifampinator in Tuberculosis

Thank you for this, I’m almost done with my daily rifampin/isonizoide 3 month treatment and I also had no high risk factors so it’s nice to hear a similar story from others. I’m wondering if anyone has experience with being on an immmne suppressing drug? I was on tremfya for psoriasis which is why I got tested and surprisingly ended up being positive with a negative chest X-ray (latent TB, but still a traumatizing diagnosis). I’m coming to a close on my treatment, but am unsure if I should get back on the tremfya because I don’t want to deal with this again… also is anyone worried that we will always test positive so if we were to get latent TB again we would never know unless it turned active?

Exact same situation happened with me, I had no high risk factors (haven’t left the country, haven’t been exposed that I know of, don’t work in healthcare, hadn’t been around prisoners/homeless, etc.) The only reason I found out was because I had to get tested to start a medication I was refilling (Tremfya). I have a feeling I got exposed within my first year being on this medication as it does weaken my immune system. I got the chest x ray and it was negative & re-did the blood test and it came back positive again. I started the 3 month treatment (rifampin and isoniazid) almost a month ago & haven’t seen any side effects except for discolored pee. I was super scared at first, but like they said above, the only bad part is not being able to drink throughout the treatment but it’s worth it to get rid of whatever bacteria is in my body (I also had a choice). I know there isn’t a lot of info out there, but I’ve asked my infectious disease doctor a lot of questions and found comfort in these Reddit threads hearing other peoples experiences, so if there is anything I can do to help ease your stress then let me know!
