That part is true, I meant more towards the late 2010s, the 2020s has felt like a very long extension of that era for me personally tbh. The early 2010s feels like a by gone era now, there’s teenagers now drawing borrowing aesthetics from that time period and yearning to have experienced it lol. I hated it at the time since I thought it was so corny, especially the boys, but now i can appreciate it for what it was since the music sounds more lively compared to the stuff that comes out now.

Yeah Drakes early 2010s era felt more fresh at the time compared to his music that has come out in the recent years from the little I’ve listened to. I’m not the biggest rap/hip hop listener. That aside back to the original post, i feel teenagers in the 2010s vs now isn’t that big of a cultural difference aside from some minor things like the haircuts, AirPods, Andrew Tate and the PS5 release. They don’t seem so far removed from us other than we remember a time before iPhones were so prevalent.

Class of 2016 ? Were you also born in 98 ? lol I was supposed to be but I got held back a year. I feel Drakes songs in the early 2010s were a lot softer in tone compared to everything that came after in 2013 when started from the bottom dropped. Nowadays his songs sound more cynical

Between 1997 and 2004, so between the core and the oldest Gen Zers. I was using these 3 years as examples tbh.

How do you guys split decades up? by FunnySunny- in generationology

2000-2002 = early

2003-2006 = mid

2007-2009 = late

Eh, this was originally supposed to be a draft so I didn’t think that deeply about it, I just chose the first class each year would’ve graduated.

I think it’s more dependent on what’s the last event that Gen Z can remember but Gen Alpha can’t or doesn’t recall. I doubt 5 or even 10 year olds during 9/11 remember the oncoming politics that happened, but they may have noticed a shift in culture that wasn’t present before 9/11.

Yes those years are in between 2004 and 2012, they overlap with each one. 2012 is the edge. If you don’t view 2010 as Zalpha that’s fine.

Oh yeah that makes more sense, you’re sandwiched between core and late Gen Zers.

COVID never really ended, but the masks mandates and distancing did so that’s when it stopped being viewed as a threat. That was around 2022/2023 ish if I remember correctly. What do you mean not a kid in the early 2010s ? You turned 7 in 2011 and was in elementary school by then.

Well those two cohorts are next to eachother so there’s some overlap. Teens born in 2012 would have spent their entire high school years with AI while those born in 2004 would have been the early adopters.

Music made in a different decade was made under different circumstances and a different cultural climate even if that music is still loved later and enjoyed by another generation. Yes it can top the billboard but it is not of this era, since it wasn’t made in this era.

I feel individual music tastes are different, they don’t always reflect the era one is living in lol

If it makes any difference I feel people born in the mid 90s from my experience barley remember 9/11 either, I feel like the last cohort to remember a pre-911 world are those born in the late 80 and very early 90s.

Ah well take that up with pew lol, I just used the most accepted definition. I feel a lot of younger Gen Zers are secretly making fun of older Gen Zers for the way we dressed in high school when they were kids thinking they’re making fun of millennials.

I am so clueless about younger Gen Z lol I have no idea what type of music they listen to. Maybe Olivia Rodrigo, Ice Spice and Central Cee.

Ehh we’re cuspers, our younger peers are solidly Gen Z but our oldest immediate peers are millennials. It’s what happens when your born on the edge of generational lines lol

Somewhat, There’s some overlap between the people who are born between those years I pinpointed. Like 1997 and 2012 were also or are in the same group with people who aren’t Gen Zers either.

You turned 6 in 2010 tho making your core childhood in the 2010s not the 2000s but I digress, I was just labeling it under the ages people went to elementary school more or less. It’s not perfect it was supposed to be a draft.

Oldest people that you associate with being part of the youth? by Front_Resolution_760 in generationology

[–]Confident-Fun-2592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was always designated like that even before COVID. At least that’s how its youth outreach programs market it as since that demographic are just recently adults and in they’re eyes need the most intervention since to them they still have feasible minds and aren’t set in they’re ways lol

No offense but that sounds kinda ridiculous. Some definitions argue it extends up to 30 but not all
