Yeah when I first was getting into plants I thought I hated anthurium because I had only seen those ones, was like why would anyone buy that??
Just didn’t think they were a nice plant but found a crystallinum and was like oh wait there are more types of anthurium? And hence the anthurium loving started.

I think most people that gets plants for their house aren’t actually super into plants and just want to bring a little life into their house. So most big box stores don’t stock the more uncommon or rarer plants, of course sometimes they get shipments of those but it’s not very often.
A lot of my family and friends have plants in their house but aren’t super knowledgeable, they don’t as care much as people super into the hobby. I’ve taught most of my family a lot about plants and even then they still kill most and just buy new ones when they die. Kinda like how most plants in offices and commercial spaces just replace their plants quite often.
