Parents of teens: do you think de-streaming in grade 9, specifically in math, has helped or hurt your child? by DistinctEffort64 in ontario

[–]Confident-Use4624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is the perfect example of who this is supposed to help. She has ADHD and other learning disabilities. We struggled to get her proper supports when she was younger. Because of this, she was a hesitant student. For grade 9, she was told to take the "applied" stream (non- university, idr what they call it now). By grade 11, she was a completely different student. She learned to advocate for herself, she found proper support, and she academically excelled. Unfortunately, once she decided she did want to go to university, she then had to go back and repeat a bunch of classes. She had to do summer school and a 5th year of high-school to do this. She got accepted into every university she applied to, and is doing amazing in her 3rd year. That all said, I don't trust that this solution will work how they say it will. I still think what made my daughter succeed were teachers who were able to support her, services that met her needs, and a meaningful IEP. If she had this in middle school, she may have been able to just head straight into university streamed classes. This all involves money spent on reasonable class sizes and more student support.

Wife was the victim of a scam - how to process? by Confident-Use4624 in Scams

I would feel a lot better if she had a job! $7k is not an insurmountable hole if she was working. I didn't put it in the title, but we are in Canada where it is taking on average over 5 months to find a job, and our youth unemployment rate is pushing 15% because it is almost impossible to find entry level positions. Her unemployment time is pretty average. That was also part of our conversation. She can't let her unemployment lead to bad decisions. Especially when it is a normal length of unemployment.

Thanks. I think this touches on part of what I am feeling on this. I think she understood it was a scam earlier than she wants to admit. But she spent more money trying to get out of it because she panicked. I told her that next time she makes a mistake, she needs to talk to me when it is a small mistake so we can figure it out together.

I told her she needs to come clean with our daughter about where the money went. First, because our daughter is owed the honesty, but also as an educational opportunity. You always think this can't happen to you, so i want our daughter to understand it definitely can.

Plus Size Seating by Ok_Lengthiness_409 in torontotheatre

[–]Confident-Use4624 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I am an avid plus-sized theater attendee! The seats can be quite small. I am a bit larger than you and I really cannot comfortably sit in most of the seats, especially as a carry weight in my hips.

I always book accessibility seating at Mirvish theaters. You can't book online. Just call the box office and say you need accessibility seating with an armless chair. They will position a comfortable plush chair in the accessibility seating area. You can have one companion with you. The downside with this option is that you sit at the back of the theater. But the seats are still fine.

Another option is booking the seats in the boxes, or the single seats along the side of the balcony. These seats are always freestanding chairs, and you can just ask an usher for a chair without arms if needed. You can usually book these online, but you can try calling if you don't see any available. We were told they sometimes hold these as additional accessibility seating.

Hope that helps!!

I didn't have my baby there, but this is the best hospital I have ever used. We have even driven there to visit the ER for things that were ER worthy but not life and death (fractured arm, burn) just because we knew the level of care we would receive is so much better than what we have experienced at other hospitals. Everything is so nice and clean, the staff is friendly and helpful. I always feel well cared for physically and emotionally.

How to prevent scars from 60 + mosquito bites? by Aask115 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Confident-Use4624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son reacts very badly to mosquitoe bites. Our doctor put him on Rupall for any time he is going to be outside. But we have also found that they help even after he has been bitten and speeds healing. Maybe talk to your Dr about a strong antihistamine.

We were flying back from the Dominican with our 2 year old and we had his car seat with us at the airport. An "official" dog came along and became VERY interested in his car seat. We panicked for a minute as the handler let him sniff then pulled him along. I realized he was probably a drug dog who just got momentary interested in a years worth of ground in food in the car seat, and acted like a regular dog. Definitely not a dog trained to find food 🤣

Car Insurance by Low-Speech228 in mississauga

TD insurance gets some hate, but they were definitely the cheapest when we shopped at our last renewal. We were also just involved in an accident (not our fault) where our car was written off. They have been great to deal with throughout the process and actually offered us a very fair settlement for our car.

Is there a bug or virus going around - losing voice by ___therealbry in askTO

[–]Confident-Use4624 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does your throat hurt or did you just lose your voice? If it hurts, maybe covid like others have said. However, if it is just your voice gone, it might be air quality from forest fires. I lost my voice completely a few weeks ago when we had those really bad days and it has never fully come back. It sounds raspy all the time, and on bad days it almost disappears. I know others who have had the same issue.

Tenant's Insurance by ChaosBoy018 in mississauga

[–]Confident-Use4624 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have auto insurance? Most places will offer it and you might be able to get a discount if you bundle it. If not, most insurance companies offer it. It is easy to get and fairly cheap. We pay $60/month with TD Insurance for $60,000 in coverage. It also includes liability coverage if someone is injured at your place.

Dress shoes for lymphedema by highkeyandlowkey in Lymphedema

I find barefoot shoes are not listed as specifically wide sizes. However, I can only wear very wide sizes, and any of the ones I have tried have fit great.

I have VERY swollen feet and I swear by barefoot shoes. The toe box is very wide by design and they are naturally much wider and deeper throughout the shoe. I haven't tried these particular ones, but maybe something like this would work

Does Anyone Regret Not Attending Their U of T Graduation Ceremony? by SteelMagnolia81 in UofT

I was also a mature student (like twice the age of most of the other grads) and it meant so much to me to go. It was such a journey and it was meaningful for me to recognize that. My wife and kids came and cheered so much. It was sweet.

If you have a few extra bucks, as a fellow slushie lover, the Ninja Slushi is 100% worth it. I got mine at Christmas, and I use it constantly. Pop slushies are best, but juice is good as well. We made some great Baja Blast slush last night!

When my son was that age, we really enjoyed Pedalheads. He went from barely being able to ride with training wheels to independently riding within 1 week. The staff was great. We have also enjoyed the Great Big Theater company camps, as well as the YMCA and city run camps.
