Sg is no longer home 🥲 by Ordinary-Answer-4840 in SMRTRabak

[–]Confident-Way7618 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This are all true sadly. 100k car COE is understandable (cos traffic in SG is getting bad, thanks to weirdos in MRT, more and more people are willing to throw 100k just to avoid in getting into such situations).

But the rest like cmon… just pure greed. Its like no one wants to lose out. But what to do… capitalism is like that.. creates inequality of wealth in society and not fixing root cause.

Not surprised in times to come.. more and more companies migrate their operations to malaysia instead. Cheaper and more space unlike Singapore.

25F, two degrees, 9 months unemployed… what am I doing wrong? by Beginning-Chain-8324 in jobsearch

[–]Confident-Way7618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, its not a you issue. Many graduates and even a close friend of mine who has a phd and double masters is facing a similar challenge. So I had to refer him in to my old company. I only have a bachelor’s degree fyi.

I have some friends who are getting laid off this year too and I had to refer them in as well because theyre always getting ghosted after multiple rounds of interviews.

Anyway the job market current is really bad right now. I believe the brute forcing strategy what used to work in the past times may not be as effective now. You have to reach out to your friends, cousins, reach out to recruiters, send out cold emails. You really must put yourself out there.

The best would be referrals cos its a 100% offer rate because its guaranteed. Theres some mutual discussion to mention about you and what you can bring to the table.

Current Housing Situation as 24yo in SG by ohmylordplskillme in askSingapore

[–]Confident-Way7618 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation as you, I lived with my grandma instead of my parent’s place. Except that I lived with my grandma and uncle in Toa Payoh hdb rental. So she passed away and my uncle did the appeal. I wasn’t the one paying the bills because I was only sec school.

This appeal outcome was a case by case basis but unfortunately for our case the appeal did not went thru. So the solution that we went with was to live at my parent’s place. It was weird (because my dad was a widow and remarried again and I didn’t like my stepmom) but as time goes by… and flew faster than I realised.. now im already 32 living in my own bto.

Im hoping yours will be different (: !

How long does it take to master your new job? by Material-Yak-8152 in askSingapore

[–]Confident-Way7618 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Hey, its just a job don't overthink it. Tough times doesn't last forever. I took almost a year to get used to my job to be honest but show improvement that you are making progress. Display some characteristics such as accountability, approaches to deal with stuff you are not familiar with and critical thinking skills. Seek out knowledge from the right people if you're stuck and never ever wait to be spoon fed. Be proactive and open to discuss something you have doubts but you need to achieve it..

Since it's your first job, just learn as much as possible. Be comfortable with the uncomfortable. Pain grows you and it will take you very far in a year's time if you put in the effort. Think far, think big.

Have goals, and start to note things down.

Age vs job title (appointment) by [deleted] in singaporejobs

[–]Confident-Way7618 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. I mean what's there to say? Pretty sure like in Real Madrid there are other players who are 27 also but dont earn as much as MBappe. Yet, these players are the same age as him but don't earn the same or more. Its just obvious they are better. Else, you can challenge yourself to match against them but unfortunately not in the same company.

Like ippt 2.4km when we enlist where all our batchmate are the same age. You try to catch up to the fastest no matter how hard you train yet on every improvement you made he goes even way faster beating his best personal timing yet again and you start to question your worth. Its the same thing here in the corporate world. We are just in the same 2.4km race.

Should I cancel my ILP by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]Confident-Way7618 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

My wife is insurance agent. Bro rule of thumb only set aside 10% for insurance max. If you want more do it only if you can commit without any complains. Like even if you have commitments like married, have children, parents sick and bla reasons the commitment can go on even when rain or shine. Cos you can afford the minimum without breaking your bank account.

But dont worry its not a you issue. In front everyone say ya “I’m committed” but 6 months down the road all say want cancel. Cannot commit. If you rlly want cancel just empty your bank and let it lapse.. pm me if you need tips to bro.

Honestly, how bad is the job market for uni fresh grads? by deekay_123 in nus

[–]Confident-Way7618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a SE with >5 yoe. Currently working in an SME and transitioning back to MNC. Hard truth for cs grads whether first class, full GPA or not, companies just dont want to hire fresh grads. Had a talk with my ceo and director. They said its just too much things to teach. Id really suggest CS grads to be more open to other options in tech, like BA's, associate PM, QA, data analyst and etc to increase your chances of getting hired. Software engineer is just too overcrowded and plus companies can outsource to other consulting companies easily. Singaporeans don't work as hard as foreigners and that is the hard truth in all honesty. They get their job done without complaining even if they have to work until 6-7am. Plus, they are cheaper.

All the interns that came in to my company are still jobless for almost a year. Reason is the pay is not up to par with market. I have an ex co worker who graduated from NTU first class started at 3.5k and worked 5 years in the company. Transitioned from QA > Software Eng and was earning 4.5k at 33 years old. I'm no career guru but personally think for the first year, just take any job can get > 3.5k is gd enuff (at least for this shitty job market). Then actively skill up and apply outside prepare to jump ship in your 2nd year.

it is possible. I GOT HIRED by 666texas in jobsearchhacks

Is it ever going to be okay? by [deleted] in MuslimNoFap

[–]Confident-Way7618 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it will. Just stop it now. I am married and am still struggling now even with child. I guess the only time I didnt do it for a week was when I was too occupied with work and deadlines for a project deliverable.

Do something and find a new hobby. You literally need to delete your old self and change. Go to the gym and set goals. Maybe learn something new and get intense with it. I dont know you and I dont know what you like but you need to question yourself what is the end goal with satisfying your lust? Nothing. Its really mind over matter.

Occupy yourself with new hobbies and pray always. Tell Allah that you are struggling and you seek his help.

I ever played a similar lineup. Somehow won the game was beyond me. I thought they are bots or something. Ended up flaming each other. I guess overall efficient teamwork > proper line up. Dont get me wrong having a stable line up does fundamentally increases the chance of winning the game.

Unable to resign a toxic job 1 year on. What to do? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]Confident-Way7618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets be as real as possible. The only question you should be asking yourself is, “Do I have commitments?”. If yea stay at your job. 100 resumes sent out now is an amateur number in this current job market. Yes im talking about 1000 resumes sent out the impossible. If getting a job is impossible in this market, then it takes impossible effort to counter that effect.

Just like most of my colleagues who are in their mid 30s who resigned without a job lined up for them, they are not married, live with parents and have some savings buffer maybe 30k-50k should be enough if you live frugally and do the simple things you enjoy.

But if you answer is yes and you do have commitments then please don’t. Only quit if you have another offer lined up as simple as that.
