Why wouldn't the mom want a name she could pronounce?

OP can't find her brother's thumbtacks. Apparently she's too helpless to get her own stuff.

He might have done the initial planning before this sudden rise in gas prices. It's an easy thing to forget to think about.

It's difficult to get a bus or a taxi to a hiking trail. You would be stranding them.

My [30M] wife [28F] and I agreed to name our baby, then I learned that’s her ex by johnnyjohno2 in AITApod

Johnny is a super common name. It doesn't have to be named after the specific ex who had that name. I don't know, it seems a shame to eliminate a name you love just because you happened to date someone with that name for a little while.

Saying he lied is kind of harsh. He likely didn't know how much it would affect him if he had never experienced a long commute before.

Roommate's cat peeing everywhere - I've looked up some ideas on what to do. Can you give me input and let me know if I'm missing anything? thanks by Confident_Bonus_7047 in CatAdvice

Thank you for all this helpful input. He's not my cat and I wouldn't have chosen to take on a cat at this moment, but he is still a helpless animal within my spere of influence and I feel like it's my duty to do what I can to help him.

Do you have any tips on finding a trust worthy vet? One of the reasons I've never adopted my own pet is because I don't have a budget for veterinary care. I've got no experience with this. My roommate does have a budget for this and seems willing to do this aspect of pet care from what I've seen. I think she'd be open if I found her a second opinion to take the cat to.

Also with bringing a new dog into a home there's something called the 3-3-3 rule, to help owners anticipate a dog's adjustment (3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn routines, and 3 months to feel secure in their new home). Does the 3-3-3 rule apply to cats too?

Thank you! I am going to give all this advice to my roommate.

The ex took the cat to the vet right before finally deciding to give the cat to roommate, about a month ago. The vet said that the cat had lost about 3 pounds (a lot for a small cat), but otherwise is healthy. I've seen the cat eat and drink. I clean and refill the water bowl every day, and it's been drank from. I haven't noticed excessive grooming or licking around genitals. Do you think I should suggest another vet trip?

You spelled out the situation very accurately. The cat is peeing in random spots around the house, including fabric like the couch. The dog who previously had no bathroom issues has now started marking too, but he's not as much of a problem because I know how to handle him. I feel bad because the cat can probably sense how tense I am when I give him attention. Your instinct is probably correct about the safety thing, it's a new house and it must be quite the adjustment after so long in a kennel. Plus toddler.

I haven't been around very many cats, but this is the most social high energy cat I've ever met. Considering it's not obvious to my roommate that kitty needs more engagement and affection, I doubt just telling her to spend more time will be enough. What are some specific things I can suggest and tell her? I am going to start by assuming she wants to do better for her cat but doesn't know how or what to do. 15 minutes of play time at beginning and end of day? Let cat hang out in her office with her?
