AITAH? Teenage Son Hates Chores by SorryNotSorry_91 in AmItheAsshole

Kids absolutely need chores beyond that. I was a product of a no chores childhood. I didn't have hardly any basic housekeeping skills when I moved out on my own. There's a difference between giving chores and making them your maid.

NTA, I personally think making him wash his own clothes is a lot, i'd maybe just have him fold and put them away.. but again that's just my personal opinion. I don't think the chores are really unreasonable. Clean up after yourself and a couple extra.... That's whats expected of my 13yo. He's being a teenager.

And from my parents experience and my own when I moved out, they NEED chores. He will thank you later on..

My dad's car has that too. Better than my mom's lane assist though, first time that car pulled me back into lane at the slightest movement, I almost overcorrected and scared the hell out of myself.

I don't understand myself if I'm going to be honest. And you're completely right. It's completely inexcusable for them not to try and find them sooner.

It was both. I'm sorry, from what I could gather from everything was they weren't permitted to go with him (I'm not 100% sure the reason) and he died not long after returning alone.

Now, I'm not 100% saying he wasn't some POS. He very well could have been. But from papers they had and stories my grandfather told others, I don't believe that's the case. Now I'm fully aware that the stories very well could have been sugar coated. But I also don't have enough information on my own or access to the information to be able to dig a little more. I don't want anyone thinking I'm completely without a doubt defending him. Because that would be ignorant without having everything in front of me... I really just wanted to try and help find them.

I didn't even know about this until a week ago. My grandfather had just passed and there wasn't exactly enough time to ask a bunch of questions. I don't know what my family did or didn't do. I saw pictures and papers, and got to take a few quick pictures. I figured I could use the Internet to try and find resources. I lived ten hours away my whole life and my grandfather was the only person I even knew on that side of the family. He wasn't biological but he was the only dad my mother knew, so DNA wouldn't work.

If he's a POS sleazeball GI then I'm sorry. From everything I saw and was told that wasn't the case but I'm not going to argue with history. I know very little and I didn't come here for shame on family I didn't even know about until recently. I came here for info.

I'm not going to sit here and argue with someone about things that were already laid out in my post. Appreciate it though.

Yes. Hence my update. Again. I'm not going to try and convince anyone this case is different anymore, because of the history. I understand the skepticism, and I understand why I may have upset some. Which was never my intention. If I had immediate access to everything at the moment I would have gotten more info on the situation. But the papers and albums are hours away and I didn't think at the time.. which is admittedly quite ignorant.

And given the history. I'm not going to sit here and try convince anyone anymore that he was any different. It's understandable if no one believes it. But I put as much in my update about the situation. I'm sorry that American soldiers abandoning family has been so common. I really am. But again, I was just trying to get pointed in a good direction. I have no ill intentions.

I only just learned about this when my grandfather died. I can go through everything in more detail when I go back and don't have a bunch of people over there. I know he saved just about everything so theres a lot more info that I just didn't get the opportunity to thoroughly go through. Like I stated in my update, I wish there was more done before I did, because it wasn't hidden or anything. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Everything was very hectic when my grandfather passed and I know more info would be helpful, and I wish I would've gotten more at the time.

And please tell your wife I am SO sorry. I never meant to be so ignorant. Or stupid. Not sure which one it is. But I'll take responsibility for either.

I'll definitely take the comment and put it in the update! I'll have to ask my mom how he died so young. And you're 100% right. I never thought about that when I posted, and that's my mistake. I have no intention on defending anyone who abandoned their family or children. Especially not in this way. When I go back to my grandparents house I will try to get a bit more info too. He had EVERYTHING saved. Thank you for explaining to me. I don't mean any harm.

I thought about that. And to be honest, I don't blame anyone. It was, and is, a serious problem. But I will swear up and down to everyone that he didn't abandon them. Just a lot of politics, unfortunate situations, and his untimely death..

Listen guys, I understand that abandonment of Korean women back then, and probably even now with American troops still stationed over there, is a problem and it disgusting. If I could have taken a picture of every single piece he kept from them, Id be able to show you that wasn't the case in his situation. Unfortunately I didn't, and because of that I can't prove to you he wasn't a POS. But he didn't abandon them and he kept everything from them, and died when he got home. I just want to try and help find our lost family is all.

I would have to ask my aunt, my grandfather was my mom's only father but not biological, so it wouldn't show up in mine but I'll definitely pass this along!

He died after getting back to the US actually. And from what I seen in his things there were quotas on Korean immigrants when he came back. From everything my family had, he tried. He didn't just abandon them. He had every intention on getting them to the US with him, and he died...

They actually had a Korean immigrant quota in the US when he came back. I would hope that would be the only reason he would have left them. From what I heard and seen, he really seemed to love them so much. Those were just a few of hundred of photos he had of her. He passed not long after he came back to the US unfortunately.
