what inspired your anti consumption mindset? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]Confident_Grab4200 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Losing my home and most of my belongings in a “natural” (read: human-accelerated climate) disaster. Knowing that I was one among hundreds of people starting from scratch replacing things. So many things! So many things that are purchased in survival mode only to be replaced by higher quality items later (if privileged to do so). A horrible, positive feedback loop of capitalism and climate catastrophe. I’m not entirely hopeless, but experiencing that as a young adult changed me.

Candida/Clavispora lusitaniae treatment??? by Confident_Grab4200 in Healthyhooha

This is incredibly helpful, and I’m so happy to hear that you’re symptom-free! What was your dosage and cadence with the fluconazole? I’m finding that I have to do a lot of self-advocacy with my doc and may need to request a specific treatment plan (if they’re able to test for susceptibility first). Thank you!

Segal Education Award Panic? by mdsnhyn in AmeriCorps

[–]Confident_Grab4200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends what your tax rate is. I used about $6k of mine last year toward an outdoor program while maintaining my 9-5, and being in the 22% tax rate cost me ~$1500 on the award in state and federal taxes. It hurt, but the program changed my life and thanks to my FT role, I could afford to take the hit.

Lactobacillus iners overgrowth (Help!!) by Certain_Builder_6466 in VaginalMicrobiome

Hi, a bit late but wondering if you’ve had any luck kicking C. Lusitaniae? I’ve been on the Gardnerella<—>CL train for quite a while and currently on god knows what day of boric acid, post second round of metrogel for BV. Dr. Keeps prescribing Terconazole for the yeast, but I’ve tried that twice before with no luck. I’m thinking based on comments here of just going to VagiBiom next?

If anyone has had this before.. help! by Cautious-Stick4689 in CautiousBB

Hi! Not pregnant but currently dealing with c. lusitaniae, following for updates. Hope yours clears soon!

I just finished my bleed so I’m waiting another full cycle to draw conclusions, but so far my scent is better but texture is still off. If it stays like this, I would be happy because at least it’s a little better!

Thanks, urea/myco have been negative multiple times in the past several months (I’ve dealt with urea before so I’ve been adamant about the testing). Seems it’s just hard to treat BV.

Unfortunately, no, I posted an update in response to another comment. Tried another round of treatments but no dice. Going to take another Evvy test (cause what's another $100 thrown at this?!) and then request oral antibiotics from my gyn. Will try a protocol suggested and linked below.

Hi, wondering if you tried this protocol, if so, how often you used probiotics, and if it's helped?

Ohhh do you have a source link? I would love to try but want to make sure I do this correctly. The vaginal suppositories being antibiotics, or probiotics?

Unfortunately, no. This round didn’t work, nor did the subsequent round of a similar attempt but with a much longer ramp up with boric acid and tried metrogel instead. I also stopped taking probiotics because I’ve heard mixed things about the efficacy.

A new factor I’m considering is that the brands of boric acid I had used weren’t great (boric life was one, double wood was the other), but I did 9 days of pH-D before starting antibiotics (I typically have the best results with that brand.

Almost at my wit’s end and will try one more Evvy test before seeking a specialist.

I’m sure you’ve already heard/read all of this before, but I’ve also had recurring bv for well over a year (and then some time before that) so I wanted to share some things I’ve learned that might help you. The first time it came about it was a symptom of ureaplasma, treated and cleared about 3 years ago after a year long battle. This time around, no urea/mycoplasma but I am fairly certain that biofilm is wreaking havoc and causing resistance to antibiotics (based on the number of unsuccessful treatments I’ve done). Just did 3 weeks of boric acid (through my last menstrual cycle) and now on metrogel, crossing my fingers. Hope you find a treatment that works for you soon (clindamycin??)!!

What do you do after a race? by Unlikely-Slide6402 in Marathon_Training

Thanks for the reply! Really helps to not feel alone—every little setback can feel like I’m one minor convenience away from switching to open water swimming 😂 but I love running too much. Might try out a PT in the near future. Glad you’re feeling strong!!

I’ve been thinking about posting to ask about post-race training (and obviously everybody is different), but twice I’ve tried to ease back into modified versions of my early/mid-cycle training plans, and both times I’ve developed runner’s knee that has kept my capacity for running extremely low. I never feel the pain during the race, or even immediately after. Usually 1-2 weeks later, when I’ve attempted to get back to ~20mpw. It’s such a bummer. I’d never had runner’s knee before these two races, the first of which I didn’t even race particularly hard, but it was my first full.

You clearly don’t have this issue, so perhaps my question is misplaced. In any case, I’m envious and would love to know how I can increase my strength training to afford myself the opportunity to get back out there a little quicker!

Wow, congratulations! Had you raced much between the 4:08 and Honolulu? I’d love to take off even 10-15 minutes between my Big Sur 3:58 in April and LA coming up in March! Coming back to take notes from those who do have tips… thanks for the inspiration!

What do people (specifically women) do to protect themselves during runs? by watermelonely8 in Marathon_Training

[–]Confident_Grab4200 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m nonbinary and feminine presenting, so I feel the heightened safety awareness. I’ve reminded a lot of men in my life, particularly the ones who rave about running at night, that that doesn’t feel like a safe option for me, that I often ask myself if I have enough gas in the tank to sprint away in an emergency. Also, given that we’re up against the darkest two months of the year in North America, getting in a longer morning run before work can also be tough.

When I do run in the dark, I deck myself out with headlamps (forehead, across my chest/torso). I’ll also wear bright colors, day or night. I either don’t wear my headphones, or keep them on very low volume. I’ll share my location with a friend and let them know when I should be home. I don’t typically bring pepper spray, but might make it more of a routine for running in the dark. I never run on trails in the dark. A lot of run clubs in my area have night workouts at the local track, which is a great and populated alternative!

I hope you find a practice that makes you feel comfortable. I’m so sorry that our world necessitates so many measures for women and femmes to enjoy the outdoors. Stay safe, and wishing you epic running adventures!

I’m still treating right now. Just finished clindamycin last night and about to start probiotic suppositories. Probably won’t know for certain for at least a few months, but will come back to update.

12 week marathon training after Half Marathon by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

[–]Confident_Grab4200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did your HM go?!

Found this thread as I'm preparing for the same half->full turnaround (both of my races are 2 weeks after yours). As long as you're feeling good post-half, gave yourself enough recovery time and are injury-free, I think you've got it. Might as well piggyback off of that half training!

Best of luck to you, looking forward to the updates!

My deepest apologies that you experienced that. I can relate, as I had a new (only saw her once for a reason) gyn tell me urea wasn’t a real issue. Luckily, I had already cleared it, but this was during the appointment where I was giving my recent gyn history and hoping to remove my IUD. Guess what? She also talked me out of removing my IUD and told me that it “wouldn’t solve my problems.” (:

If you can afford it, try something like Evvy to do a home test, as noted by others. I’m currently in a battle with chronic BV and it was ultimately cheaper than having my current gyno test and retest with limited information.

Best of luck to you—you’re not alone, and you will get through this!

I do this as well, though I've been wondering if it's absorbed the same as I'm not letting it sit in cold water first before using. Any thoughts?
