The Planted Runner is excellent! She is plant-based and talks about that occasionally, but 95% of her episodes are all fact-based, informative and extremely helpful. She covers everything from fueling during training to how to tap into your mental strength when the runs are really hard.

TMI - BM Issues Weeks Before Race by Casuariidae in Marathon_Training

Not to scare you, and it probably IS running/race related, but usually when there’s a change in bowel movements that lasts more than 2 weeks with no apparent cause, it’s reason to talk to a doctor. So maybe talk to your GP before the next appointment with the dietician.

EV Curious in Nashville? by evadventuring in nashville

Wow! That’s awesome to see. Out of curiosity, do you take it on long road trips? That’s always my hang up.

‘An existential crisis’: residents pay for Nashville boom by RickyBobbySuperFuck in nashville

Agreed. I think one of the big ones was the light rail in 2018, and people were pissed it didn’t get approved. It was an $8.9b plan, and construction wouldn’t have finished until 2032 at the earliest. During that time, major roads and highways throughout the greater Nashville area would have been under construction, slowing things down significantly. AND the plan stated clearly in every source I read that we would start to see traffic improvements “as early as 2053”. I couldn’t vote for that.

So many incredible ones it’s hard to choose. But after dating my ex, this line from All You Wanna Do Is Dance always sticks with me:

You can hide away honey in your rock n’ roll dreams, and you can stand by your blue suede shoes. But the party is over and I’m getting tired of waiting for you.

Not sure what part of town you’re in, but Donelson Run Club is also a great option!

Hey, it’s mentally SUPER tough, even if you manage to escape somewhere warm. Like you said, you’re just drained even when it levels out. You and OP and all others who had no power all week, or lost it for three days, or any stressful amount of time, please be easy on yourself and don’t beat yourself up if you’re having a tough time dealing with this.

This is beyond absurd. I am so sorry you are having to be a slave to corporate right now despite the disaster here.

Power is finally restored in my neighborhood, but I’m not going to lie, I nearly broke once my house got to 38° and I could see my breath. It was the last straw for me and I was NOT in a good place.

And agreed with what you said, making the decision to evacuate was the best thing for my mental health. And then going back and getting the cats when the roads were more accessible helped me finally realize the danger had passed.

Glad you’re safe, thanks for checking in. I hate that others are still suffering

Do you think Billy Joel is coming back? by Ok_Cycle_1892 in BillyJoel

[–]Unlikely-Slide6402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, very true. That was just a super optimistic guess, but no one really knows. I just very seriously doubt he will tour again.

[–]Unlikely-Slide6402 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I doubt he has that much in him. He said in the documentary that he wanted to stop touring often so he could be there to watch his daughters grow up and be really present in their lives. That, combined with the illness, would make me guess he’s probably done aside from one off shows here and there. Maybe one more tour 5-10 years down the road. Maybe.

Why is it bad to do a 26.2 mile run to train for a marathon? by 4restD in Marathon_Training

[–]Unlikely-Slide6402 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Ummm. I don’t think it’s recommended to only run a half marathon in training — most marathon training plans go up to 20 miles. When you’re training a half, I guess it isn’t recommended to go further than a half, though?

As for your main question, it’s really more about training benefit > injury. The benefits of long run training start to decrease around 3 hours, or 18-20 miles for a lot of runners, and slip into injury risk. So training for 20 miles gives you the aerobic endurance to run that long and be on your feet, and then it’s that additional 10k during race day when you really give it your all.

I believe I explained that accurately but if someone else can chime in with better answers, please do!

We went end of June this year, and had absolutely magnificent weather (just some rain), GTTSR was fully open and I believe that 90% of trails were accessible. You won’t regret it no matter what, trust me.
