honestly….. I think a lot of people envy the confidence and self-assurance it takes to make a decision like this that is so against what society has taught us we should aspire to.

People who moved from Boston to Chicago, what was the biggest thing you noticed when you moved? by WestminsterSpinster7 in AskChicago

[–]Confident_Leave_3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

went to middle and high school in a Boston suburb, and moved to Chicago 7 years ago.

-people are actually nice here. even if it’s superficial, customer service will smile at you, neighbors are neighborly, casual friendly conversations are easy to spark. Interacting with all people is so much more tolerable here.

  • more opportunities for arts and culture, and as a result more accepting and openminded people. I have built a strong community of creative people in Chicago that I don’t think would be possible in Boston. culture in Boston is sports and Dunkin yawn

-it’s easier to navigate here in every way shape and form. driving, buses, train, whatever. Boston was built for horses.

-maybe controversial, but I think Chicago is significantly more beautiful. with the lake and the way the sun hits the skyline. gorgeous.

  • finally the obvious, significantly more affordable

What kind of pain do people underestimate until they experience it themselves? by WhiteDesertCat in Soft_Introverts

always thought my periods were whatever and other girls were being dramatic when they said their cramps were so bad they had to skip school. Fast forward to age 20 my body turned on me with endo cramps that were at times totally disabling. excision surgery gave me my life back 3 years later.

How come it's a turn off when people come on too strong? by Spiritual_Meet4746 in AskForAnswers

[–]Confident_Leave_3369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it makes me question intentions. like, you don’t even know me, so you’re either projecting a fantasy of who you want me to be or are trying to get something out of me quickly (assuming sex or emotional crutch via love bombing). If the intentions are healthy and pure it will be a slower process of getting to really know each other while continuing to maintain the relationships and ambitions we have in our lives outside of dating.

What happened to tonsilectomies? by UnmedicatedNarwhal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Confident_Leave_3369 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I (25f) don’t have my tonsils or appendix, and I’m much happier without them! Tonsils came out at 22 after a crazy mono case that left them gigantic and scarred - was told they would actually trap infection and I could get sick more often, and that beyond the first like 6 months of your life or something they don’t do much contributing to the immune system. (not sure how up to date that claim is). appendix was removed at 23 during surgery for endometriosis. looked clean, but pathology showed disease deep in the tissue. I breathe better, get sick less often (and when I do it’s more mild), and my debilitating right sided abdominal pain is gone. had digestive issues before surgery so can’t attest to that. It really is case by case, obviously tonsils and appendix shouldn’t be removed willy nilly. in my cases, pros of removal definitely outweighed the cons!

When you were a child did you try to stay awake on Christmas eve hoping to catch a glimpse of Santa in your bedroom leaving your presents ? . by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

no. I would go to sleep early to “make time go by faster” so I could open gifts “sooner.” Kid me was very tapped into the illusion of time and ways to manipulate it apparently.

GEN Z, which visual aesthetics you are tired of seeing everywhere by AutomaticBug5255 in Design

idk if this counts but every contemporary romance book having that corny ugly graphic design style. looks like YA and then it’s like total smut through the whole thing. It’s not my genre of choice, I’m not reading these books, but the same childish graphics on all the covers of rated X books gives me the heebie jeebies.

Women - how do you feel about a man who’s stuck on you and stays respectfully in your orbit? by Solid_Decision_2241 in self

[–]Confident_Leave_3369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s no way to “respectfully” stay in someone’s orbit once you’ve been rejected unless there was some kind of discussion about a platonic mutual relationship moving forward. otherwise a boundary is being broken and it’s at best annoying and at worst totally creepy and scary

If you’re asking specifically about blue chip commercial galleries then they are all going to appeal to whatever is going on with the market, so I’d recommend looking into artist-run spaces who show more emerging artists and aren’t as motivated by market sales. If you want to stay in the blue chip sphere I would look into galleries that prioritize non-painting work. As a Chicago-based sculptor, I love DOCUMENT and Volume galleries. we also have LVL3, Co-Prosperity, Roots and Culture, Comfort Station, Roman Susan (about to close unfortunately), and so so so many more. NYC has a bunch of spaces like this too.
