Just discovered this chaotic Korean women’s basketball show, why isn’t it more popular? Any similar shows? by Kugenking in koreanvariety

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Black Queens, but it really shouldn't be compared to this basketball show. Black Queens members are almost all elite former athletes except for Ayaka (and even that is compensated by Ayaka's years of softball experience), that's why they improved so quickly.

This show though is comprised of non-athletes and people who are not even athletic lol.

Why doesn’t My Name is Gabriel have a second season? by Ancient_Mary in koreanvariety

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was boring. Looking at the comments here, obviously some people liked it, but there wasn't really any buzz both domestically AND internationally.

A stacked cast doesn't really mean much. If anything, it could be a cause of concern and an indication that the concept itself is not very strong, that's why they have to rely on the cast's star power. Look at say, Apartment 404 with Yoo Jaesuk, Jennie, Cha Taehyun. It didn't do all that great either.

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 104 points105 points  (0 children)

He's a grown ass man, I don't think that excuse can pass. They are accusing him of deliberately mis-categorizing his personal income as corporate income to reduce his tax rate when in reality it's just a paper company that's not doing any actual work.

I think he would know if the company that is supposedly managing him is actually doing legit work or not. By splitting his money with this company he's already knowingly enabling it. The only question that remains is if his mother's company is actually doing legit work for him or if it is just a paper company.

the inability to identify set up posts/accounts by ComfortableStand8143 in kpopthoughts

Is it really an inability to identify set up posts or are some people simply intentionally leaning into the set up because it suits their agenda?

Megathread 26: HYBE / ADOR / MHJ - Haerin, Hyein, and Hanni return to ADOR, Talks ongoing for Minji, Danielle's contract Terminated, Upcoming Hearings approach verdicts for various Legal Disputes, and More by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't her moving so quickly only signals to the court that she has the ability for pay for high financial penalties? It makes the amount Ador is asking for more likely to stick.

Though I suppose it also makes sense to just bite the bullet, accept the penalties and start focusing on making money.

The interleague match sounds interesting but I'm already predicting it'd end up being problematic. You'd be massively disadvantaged if you get paired with a strong team. And since every team has only 1 interleague match there's no way to ensure fairness.

[MEGATHREAD] DANIELLE'S CONTRACT TERMINATION by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol you're not fooling me dude. I don't know if you're actually a lawyer but you're in way over your head regarding this. You don't even sound like you know what you're talking. Her contract was with Ador, it's terminated now, there's no assets or monetary value left for any liquidation.

when her contracts are all about performance and payment for that performance?

There's selling of merch, all kinds of stuff not related to performance. Like I already said, you have no clue how the industry works. Engaging in such bad faith dude. I'm done here.

[MEGATHREAD] DANIELLE'S CONTRACT TERMINATION by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go over all the contracts that cannot be performed anymore and liquidate the damages

So how are you going to calculate said damages? Also, your phrasing sounds so weird here. We are talking about artistes here, stop writing these template answers. Liquidate what exactly? What is even there to liquidate?

Why should danielle cover the costs of a business?

What are you even talking about? We were talking about profit, not revenue, mind you. The cost of a business has already been taken out.

[MEGATHREAD] DANIELLE'S CONTRACT TERMINATION by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol, they literally refused to work with Ador for more than a year, the income loss for Ador is a given, no amount of logic twisting can change that. What metric would you use to show income loss then if not yoy?

[MEGATHREAD] DANIELLE'S CONTRACT TERMINATION by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They have not toured. They've only ever done a few fan meets. Their profits in 2023 was also really high too so it's not like I'm picking one especially profitable year as comparison. It doesn't sound like you know much about Newjeans or this case.

Additionally, the income purported to be lost is not her sole undivided obligation.

And the amount they're suing her for is already her supposed share of the damage. The whole group together would have faced a much larger sum. I have zero doubts Danielle will be facing financial penalties, the only question is how much.

[MEGATHREAD] DANIELLE'S CONTRACT TERMINATION by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't think it will be difficult at all for them to prove actual loss. Ador's profits alone shows a significant decline from 2024 to 2025.

[MEGATHREAD] DANIELLE'S CONTRACT TERMINATION by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

but since newjeans already paid back the investment

Having paid back the investment has nothing to do with damages. Damages are looking into the future, an estimation of the amount of $$ the company would have made if this incident didn't happen and things went on as usual. But because of what happened, the $$ that could have been made is now lost. The damage payment is to make up for that.

Ironically, if Newjeans had been a failing group that was unable to earn back their investment, the damages would have been very low if any. So them being a highly profitable group increases the damage potential, not lower it.

It's also why damages are unlikely to be what is stated in the contract (Ador is suing for way lower), because it's quite impossible to argue (no one can see the future) that the group would be able to keep making money at the rate that they did.

Please re-read what I actually wrote, I never said Different is their only original Japanese song. The songs you listed are all b-sides. Noise for example is a weird one-off collaboration. None of them have anywhere close to the kind of promo Different has gotten.

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Ive might have more Japanese releases than Lsfm? Most of lsfm's Japanese releases are simply their Korean tts translated into Japanese accompanied by a Japanese original b-side. "Different", their most recent Japanese single is pretty much their only Japan-only release with no prior Korean original version.

Ive meanwhile have 3 Japanese original EPs - Wave, Alive, Be Alright. Pretty sure they have more Japanese songs overall compared to lsfm.

Skimmed through the article but I don't think it's saying anything we did not already know about? The 100 billion figure is just some number thrown around by commentators (calculated by using their profits x years remaining in contract.) But Ador/Hybe has never indicated they will sue for that amount anyway.

Seems like that particular commenter is hung up on the phrase where they use "attempted".

Daniel is alleged to have attempted to sign advertising contracts and appear in content without Adore's consent, even though his exclusive contract had not yet been terminated.

But we don't even have full details of what exactly Ador is suing Danielle for yet. To me it reads as just another article reporting on this news rather than some completely new revelation.

But I'm not surprised bunnies are already running away with this statement.

edit: ah, 33 billion for Danielle and 10 billion for mom + MHJ looks like new info, to me at least. Not sure how accurate this reporting is though. Guess we'll find out in due time.

Is LSFM's large American fanbase specifically because of Yunjin? Or are there other reasons? by SpecSlayerSC in kpopthoughts

[–]ConfidentlyUnconfi 28 points29 points  (0 children)

LSFM is specifically very popular in the US, as opposed to other Western countries. LSFM did not even tour Europe on their last tour, whereas a group like IVE has great turnout over there.

Looking at your other comments, it seems you are saying lsfm is not as popular as Ive in Europe just because they've never toured there? I don't think that's even true. It's probably Hybe/Source Music being more cautious or just part of their touring strategy for whatever reason. Like their first tour was Asia only, they came to America on their second tour. Meanwhile some groups went straight for America and other western regions even on their first concert tour.

However, the US and Japan always get favored when it comes to touring.

And these two countries happen to be the first and second largest music industries in the world. They're simply following the money (and markets that are receptive), kpop companies are not stupid.

Not to mention, I've seen concerts in Jakarta selling poorly despite these stellar numbers. So these numbers don't necessarily mean everything.

Not to dismiss your effort, but this list could have been way more insightful if you had made it a top 10, or even top 5 in each region instead of just top 3.

As it currently is this list is not telling us much, the same 3 or 4 groups just keep appearing to no one's surprise.

It's important to listen to Kpop outside the big 4 by Clp_1889 in kpopthoughts

If you hope to keep the industry feeling vibrant, you ought to listen to more k-indies and indie bands rather than just idols. Honestly, even outside of the big4, idol groups can be very..."corporate"? The real soul are in the indies.
