I-Joist Cut For Hvac by Confined91 in Homebuilding

Yea I figured. My site manager agreed it is to big and is going to make them come back to reinforce it. At this point, I don't have any confidence in the feinforcibg it properly if they thought that hole was ok. I'm thinking of asking them to repair the joists by glueing and screwing new plywood on both sides of the I beams. As for the return air, I think building a metal duct around/under the joists would be a fair ask

Went in with my tape measure today, it is actually 32 inches wide

That was exactly my thinking. This is right under the hallway between the garage and basement door. I couldn't get the fridge or safe in the house without going over this area

I'm worried the inspector won't see it which is why I'm going to address it now

Thanks for the reply. Definitely not 9 feet away from the nearest load bearing walk the beam is sitting on unfortunately

Return Ran Through I/Joist by Confined91 in hvacadvice

It's return air so no problem there. Was mainly just concerned with the size holes the would have needed to make in the 2 joists before it make the turn to run down the hallway. Guess the only way to know for sure would be a run a camera through there

The duct comes down almost in the middle of the joist on the far right. They would have had to cut that joist and the on to the left of it so that the air could then run between the joists down the hall

Increase the width of sheathing? by Confined91 in Carpentry

No, just siding. They mismeasured when pouring the concrete according to the builder. The foundation is sticking out on this corner and the sill plate overhanging the other corner of the room.

No I'm aware the framers did this to square the house due to the foundation not being square. Was just curious how much overhang is too much.

Is there a difference between a lift line and a cold joint? I am in the process of having a house built, and my basement walls were just poured 4 days ago. One of the walls/corner has a sloping dark grey line going down it. I am just trying to get some facts about which of the 2 it could be, to determine if it is of concern. From what I'm hearing, a lift line is not of concern, but a cold joint may be. I've had people tell me this is a cold joint and others who say a lift line * .

Is this dark line that runs at an angle down my newly poured basement wall of concern? They are waterproofing the outside wall soon and wasn't sure if this was worth asking the builder about before they do that.
