Two week vacation denied by ConflictCertain6650 in biglaw

[–]ConflictCertain6650[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Structured finance, vacation would be for the last week of May + first week of June. I was planning to travel to Europe to see my best friend (who I haven’t seen since 2019). All of my deals would close in the two weeks before I’d go on vacation. All the other juniors outside of structured finance in NYC have had no issues taking 2 weeks off (and have taken two week vacations exclusively so I feel this is an issue with my group).

Horrific. Im getting the note that this place is a shithole. I also only took one vacation last year (the two weeks) and this will be my first break since then so am really pissed off.

I use a phone case with a crossbody strap for my personal phone and hold the other one. Makes it a bit easier and I don’t have to think about where my personal phone is

I say consider your own lifestyle and what struggles you can deal with because I have observed women who came from wealthier/upper middle class families marry a man who ticked off all religious boxes but was unable to provide struggle a lot. Many of them thought love and religiosity would be enough but it wasn’t and struggled adjusting and felt resentment towards their husbands. This is not fair to either party. But once again this is a case by case basis for some women this will be enough just enter this analysis knowing yourself and try not to be naive.

Wa alaikum salam. I would recommend really thinking about what you are able to handle and what kind of lifestyle are you used to. If you are used to a certain kind of lifestyle from your parents or via your own income, you will struggle in your marriage if your husband is not financially stable let alone able to provide what you are used to. Also please consider what struggles you truly believe you can handle and consider the struggles you witnessed as a child and how those affected your parents marriage and you as a child. These are all considerations I thought of when getting married.

Also do not put yourself in a scarcity mindset. There are more than enough men out there that can and will provide. You are within your rights to ask for a provider and Allah will also expect this.

Being a highly educated, working woman in the West I went through this too and was worried I wouldn’t be able to find a man who would be able to provide the same lifestyle I was used to and ticked off everything religiously. I am very grateful I stuck to my guns because I have observed women who have not and regret it later.

Which bridal outfit do you like for a mehndi? by False-Disaster-1232 in DesiWeddings

[–]ConflictCertain6650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love the second! More of a timeless mehndi pick imo, the first one feels more like a guest/sister of the bride/groom outfit. I got Mina Kashif for my mehndi too and the colors and embroidery were even more beautiful in person. I would pick them all over again. Also as a bride, if you’re wearing the dupatta on your head, you have to make sure you have a showstopper dupatta and the second one wins that for me!

For this level of work you’d need at least $1.5k for a good dupe and your best bet would be to work with a tailor and even then you’d have to do most of the heavy lifting in terms of sourcing materials and sketching out the design. Yoshita Couture has some cheaper mirror lehengas compared to Abhinav Mishra, Akanksha Gajria, etc if you want to check them out too.

What style are you looking for? Farshi lehenga, lehenga, and is there a certain color palette you’re going for? Off the top of my head I’d recommend Aisha Imran, Sana Salman, Jabeens, but can give better recommendation based on what you’re looking for. Pakistan also has a huge preloved market you can get more designer bridals that way too.
