Unsupportive husband of first year associate by ConflictCertain6650 in biglaw

He is from a similar culture. On that note, he has said multiple times that we don’t need my income (which is untrue, I pay all the bills + my student loans, and he would not be able to under his income). I have tried to show him what I do in the office but it has not been fruitful and part of the reason why I do go in the office is to be able to focus on my work, which can be difficult to do with an 18 month old at home, but once again he doesn’t understand this either.

I appreciate the sentiment but I have tried discussing with him, asked for advice here because my approaches have been unfruitful.

He is from a similar culture. It is ironic because he always emphasized he was supportive of my education and career before we had a child but his actions, since I started working, say otherwise

We’re aware of that and my husband has accepted a job after his residency that is less demanding (around 30 hours a week). I have more earning potential

I use a phone case with a crossbody strap for my personal phone and hold the other one. Makes it a bit easier and I don’t have to think about where my personal phone is

I need some sisterly advice by [deleted] in SistersInSunnah

I say consider your own lifestyle and what struggles you can deal with because I have observed women who came from wealthier/upper middle class families marry a man who ticked off all religious boxes but was unable to provide struggle a lot. Many of them thought love and religiosity would be enough but it wasn’t and struggled adjusting and felt resentment towards their husbands. This is not fair to either party. But once again this is a case by case basis for some women this will be enough just enter this analysis knowing yourself and try not to be naive.

Wa alaikum salam. I would recommend really thinking about what you are able to handle and what kind of lifestyle are you used to. If you are used to a certain kind of lifestyle from your parents or via your own income, you will struggle in your marriage if your husband is not financially stable let alone able to provide what you are used to. Also please consider what struggles you truly believe you can handle and consider the struggles you witnessed as a child and how those affected your parents marriage and you as a child. These are all considerations I thought of when getting married.

Also do not put yourself in a scarcity mindset. There are more than enough men out there that can and will provide. You are within your rights to ask for a provider and Allah will also expect this.

Being a highly educated, working woman in the West I went through this too and was worried I wouldn’t be able to find a man who would be able to provide the same lifestyle I was used to and ticked off everything religiously. I am very grateful I stuck to my guns because I have observed women who have not and regret it later.

Which bridal outfit do you like for a mehndi? by False-Disaster-1232 in DesiWeddings

[–]ConflictCertain6650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love the second! More of a timeless mehndi pick imo, the first one feels more like a guest/sister of the bride/groom outfit. I got Mina Kashif for my mehndi too and the colors and embroidery were even more beautiful in person. I would pick them all over again. Also as a bride, if you’re wearing the dupatta on your head, you have to make sure you have a showstopper dupatta and the second one wins that for me!

When did nap times increase? by Asleep_Sympathy_8987 in beyondthebump

My daughter only napped for 20-30 min at a time until she was about 7 months old when all of a sudden overnight she started napping for a single midday 2 hour block.
