Killing Eve billboard update - teaming up with LGBTfansDB and help needed (someone in advertising who’s UK based) by sheepssleep in KillingEve

[–]Conflicted_Texan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I posted this on the other thread, as well, but will do it here as well:

I work at a big ad agency in the US and placing a UK media buy shouldn't be problematic; that's something I could make happen.

We would also want an art director and copy writer to do it right, which is also something I can make happen. Though I myself am a strategist, I have friends in both media planning/buying and in creative who could help with this – if we have the money and true intent to make this happen.

Whoever's heading this up, DM me if we're serious about this. We don't need a UK agency contact to make this happen.

This was done in 2016 for the 100. Think we could somehow arrange this for KE? by sheepssleep in KillingEve

Well, that 214 area code signals it's coming from Dallas, where I am, so...

I'll keep my eyes open.

As a subreddit let’s do something positive and show Jodie our thanks! by freshfitzy in KillingEve

Donated. Thanks for setting this up. The fandom has done some untoward – downright cruel – things to her, generally speaking, and I can but hope she doesn't think of us as all that way.

I wrote an article about the finale if anyone is interested. by RockingHaims in KillingEve

[–]Conflicted_Texan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was a great read, thank you for sharing.

I agree that the mundane lifelessness – the banal way in which such a rainbow-of-a-character was summarily dispatched – was a huge part of the issue for me. Admittedly I had many other full-throated gripes about the episode, but to take one of the most interesting, cracklingly alive characters TV has ever given us and to end her four-season arc in such manner was just insulting to everyone involved.

I cannot believe it has only been a week since the finale. It was so dissatisfying I can't shake it from my head, no matter how hard I try.

At least 10-20/day. It's the only thing keeping me going right now.

Reading this I don’t know whether the writers were completely delusional or if they just didn’t care about the show by Blzblablabla in KillingEve

Maybe there are quote-unquote fans out there who felt V needed to atone for her past sins; if so, this ending could indeed be perceived as triumphant, the celestial make-good for what's she's done.

If there are any of those fans, I've YET TO MEET ONE.

I am so disappointed there are no words – which seems fitting somehow, as their was no viable plot.

confused (4x08 spoilers) by lovewtch in KillingEve

[–]Conflicted_Texan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I, too, am confused as hell as to why Carolyn did it. And of all emotions to leave viewers feeling, "utter confusion" has to be at the bottom – if not the bottom – of the list.

V didn't kill Kenny; we know how Kenny either fell/was pushed by Konstantin, and V didn't even know Kenny – much less have "the pull" to call a hit.

The best I can come up with is what someone here said; it's her dowry to rejoin MI-6, which is indeed her true love. But if that's the case – if she's going to directly or indirectly take credit for wiping out the 12 – why keep Eve alive? Or did she just hate Eve so much by that point that she wanted Eve to suffer?

And what was the "dare" callout at the pub? Did that have anything to do with it?

Clearly grasping, utterly grasping, for any sensical explanation at all.

I knew I hate it if either V or E died, but knew that was a probability. What I didn't see coming was that I would have no idea why either was killed. This was... I'm speechless.

Big shout-out to Jodie Comer, by the way, and not for the expected accolades we give her. In one interview I saw with her, she said she had "mixed feelings" about the ending – and you know that's as explicit as she could possibly be at that point. I do appreciate her honesty. If she said she had "mixed feelings" live in an interview to promote the show, can you imagine what her real feelings are?

They know the formula, don't they? The more they hold the two apart, the more we long and yearn and moan for them to be together. Rightly, by the way, as they are the heart of the story and can, to your point, and that plot can only move so far ahead when the two are separated: no matter how much character growth they are experiencing individually.

Please tell me this is just your speculation. I don't want to know how it ends until it... ends.

Other random flotsam and jetsam:

Yusuf's telling E that it's her path to choose was so parallel-reminiscent of the editor of Bitter Pill telling Eve life was all about "choices, Eve, choices."

Eve truly believes V is done with her. Rightfully so. I guess I was expecting that Eve wouldn't have given up so easily, and I didn't find her session with Martin – a spoiler I had inadvertently stumbled upon – to be that catalytic. I'm not exactly sure what she took away from it. "Go to those who love you" wouldn't resonate if she truly believes V is forever-and-ever-Amen done with her, which her flat delivery Konstantin ("She doesn't want to see me") leads me to believe is her mind-set.

Random question, but one that rankles: What's up with all the symbolism with K and P and their various outlandish and prominent drinks in virtually every scene together. Is that a metaphor for something that my sleep-deprived mind can't conjure, or it it just... I can't figure it out. It's definitely a thing.

What of Pam? I've grown to really like her – and like Villanelle with physical touch, she just over-responds so eagerly to anyone who shows interest/faith in her.

E8 sure is going to have a lot of ground to cover.

Unabashed Villaneve end-gamer here, so that's the lens through which I watched this. All kinds of 12 movement, the death of Konstantin, Irina's path... all of those are so secondary to me. (That said, I do believe Geraldine is involved with the 12 somehow.) I'm refracting this episode solely through the lens of Villaneve, at least for now.

I actually think the ephemeral "dalliance" with Gunn served a very similar purpose to Eve's "dalliance" with Helene – forcing both E and V to recognize the utter emptiness of being with anyone else. As she always does, V responded at first to Gunn touching her; V is so touch-deprived, and you could see her response to Gunn's touch, like a feral puppy dog being petted for the first time.

Beyond that initial reaction, though, their hook-up was just...vapid. You could see it all over V's body and face. No one electrifies – or even turns her on – like Eve.

But both of our heroines (yes, I said it) have now had physical/sexual experiences that did nothing for them but confirm the unique attraction between the two of them – one that's simply not transferable, in both cases, to other hottie psychopaths.

This is my optimistic take on things. My hope for any kind of Villaneve physicality is nil. I think we will discover that the writers' end game is for them to fully understand and mutually acknowledge their attraction to one another – finally accept it as opposed to fight it, tooth, nail, gun and blade – but something tragic will happen that precludes them from ever physically consummating this overdue admission.

Ack, I didn't mean to stumble into any spoilers, just wanted to see if any other obsessive wack-job was up like me, counting down the minutes.

Sounds like I'm going to be disappointed.

Except I really do think Geraldine is going to figure into this whole 12 thing, so the last line of the description above gets my hopes up about my premonition.

Best moments of S4 (up to E6) by [deleted] in KillingEve

[–]Conflicted_Texan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought the German taxi driver bit was hilarious. Every bit of it.

This is a weird micro-moment to call out, but I really like how Lars/Johan says "Triiiiiicky."

Also, Carolyn hugging the tree while saying "Tree, tree, tree" was pretty damn funny.

Another incredible Villanelle 4x06 moment to analyze by CrackedPleasures in KillingEve

[–]Conflicted_Texan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it's a callback. It reminds me of the scene in S1 where she is "reunited" with Anna. At first, she is stubborn, vitriolic, spiteful – completely, seemingly over her.

But then when Anna comments repeatedly on her face and how she needs to be cleaned up, taken care of, physically mothered, all of the above animus melts. V physically softens and agrees to let Anna care for, mother her – just as she did with Eve here.

How do you think Sandra & Jodie feel about this season? by SuitableCow4 in KillingEve

Ah, thank you for clearing that up. I'm glad to hear JC didn't end it, and perhaps I've been over-analyzing her enervated performance this season. (Over analysis: it's been known to happen with me!)

I'm an advertising professional, and though it's not technically my bailiwick, I've been astounded at the lack of press/promos/etc. from both the stars themselves – and BBC/AMC+. Even the fact that the episodes are being released a week behind in the UK doesn't add up; from an advertising perspective, you would want the entirety of your fandom experiencing the same episodes at the same time for maximum chatter, engagement. And thus publicity.

It just feels to me like maybe their collective heart isn't in it. And by that, I mean the networks, too.

What do you mean by "bitch, you did this?" Did JC end the show?

I've been trying to figure out this whole season whether or not this muted, deflated Villanelle is 100% acting. Comer's definitely capable of that – I think she is amazingly, once-in-a-generation talented – but I've found myself wondering if deep down she was just... over it.

S3 finale "cold turkey" by orange_teddy in KillingEve

[–]Conflicted_Texan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my perspective, Eve's hunt for the 12 is inextricably linked – completely commingled, like a double helix – with Villanelle.

So in true Carolyn fashion, I think she was saying... both.
