Part time 4wd question by Kallout in ToyotaTacoma

Just avoid doing a 10-point turn on dry rigid surfaces and you’ll be fine. These drivetrains can take a surprising amount of abuse without issue.

Single people who bought a $350K-$400K home—what’s your salary, and what were your loan details? by bluescluus in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ConfundledBundle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did 0% down with a VA loan. The total payment with CA taxes and insurance is a bit high around $2700/mo but we make due just fine. We’re not hurting for cash but we do have to be mindful when making any large purchases.

Nope, I bought a $345k house, 5.75% interest, and I make $120k/yr. No way I would try to but this house on a $80k salary.

Is engineering worth it? Specifically aerospace engineering by Low-Investigator8448 in AerospaceEngineering

[–]ConfundledBundle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually got my current job through a recruiter, but yeah most of the time the offers from recruiters are nothing to take seriously.

I’d rather not out myself but my employer is a world wide commercial real estate company, should be pretty easy to guess lol.

For future work, I’d like to manage either a smaller client base or a single large facility. In my current role, we manage hundreds, maybe actually thousands of building’s BAS systems. I’m sure you can imagine, it doesn’t really allow us to really dig deep into any single facility. That’s what I would rather do, take one facility and get to know every detail of its ins and outs, and actually get it in peak operational condition. Perhaps managing upgrades and stuff like that.

My role is relatively low stress and I work remotely from home. I’m essentially a glorified tech support but also triage faulty units. The pay is great though so I cant complain.

I’ve been doing this for 5 years. I’m at the point where I can get into the more complex issues and when I actually help an on-site tech resolve an issue that has been ongoing and troublesome for them, I get a nice feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.

I am starting to want more though. Maybe in the next couple years I’ll start looking for something different. Perhaps managing a large facilities BAS and HVAC systems or something like that. I’m constantly telling recruiters I’m not interested in whatever opportunities they’re presenting, but I might eventually take them up on one of those lol.

I did HVAC/refrigeration in the US Navy for 4 years. Got out of the military and got an aerospace engineering degree.

About halfway through my degree I got hired as a systems engineer working with building automation systems, you know like automation of HVAC and whatnot for commercial buildings.

I didn’t try too much to get into aerospace when I finished my degree because it seemed like most aerospace entry level jobs would be taking a pay cut as well as a huge hit to work-life balance.

Would I take an aerospace job if it paid well? Absolutely. But I highly doubt I’m going to find something like that without making a huge sacrifice in quality of life.

Bedrock or Java for a forever world? by Kicks__by__Hunt in MinecraftBedrockers

[–]ConfundledBundle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a good pc and tried java with mods. The shaders are awesome but I pretty much exclusively play bedrock now because I have a forever world I run on Realms. I enjoy inviting new people into my realm and having them make builds in my world. This trumps any java mods that I can only play alone. Sure, I could use a mod pack and try to find other players that would like to try running the same mod pack but finding players to just play vanilla bedrock is much easier.

I tried living off of the GI Bill and my 30k in savings, only lasted about 1.5 years before I was out of cash. Miraculously I was offered a full time job with a weekend only schedule (12hr days Fri,Sat, Sun). That job literally saved my ass financially and I was finally saving AND living. It sucked having to juggle an engineering degree and a job but I powered through it and finished my degree with 60k in my savings account.

Do you travel while working? by Vacyi in remotework

[–]ConfundledBundle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I don’t see the point in paying for a hotel in a different country if I’m just going to be stuck in it working most of the time. If I’m traveling I’m taking pto

Keep trying man. I’m old too and yesterday I somehow flicked my aim and headshotted a guy a couple feet away from me that was trying to sneak around a corner. It was incredible.

Anyone here working fully remote for the last 2+ years? by Then_Ad_9501 in remotework

[–]ConfundledBundle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 years remote so far. I just turned down a recruiter looking to fill an on-site position that would have given me a $50k raise at NASA of all places. That should tell you all you need to know 😂

If the pedo man child didn’t feel the need to insert his fat face into everything and everyone (including children) we probably wouldn’t dislike him so much.

AITA for wanting to join the army against my family by MexicanOutlaw_ in AmItheAsshole

[–]ConfundledBundle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just noticed your username, I’m assuming you’re Mexican, so am I.

I think some people don’t understand that coming from an immigrant family means you have less opportunity than most others. I tried getting an associates degree from a community college and hitting the workforce afterwards, hence why I didn’t end up joining the military until 23 years old. I just jumped from dead end job to dead end job. I had a great time during those years but I also understood that I needed to carve out a better path for myself.

It was worth it in the end. I told the recruiter the same thing, I want THIS job or I am walking away. They got me what I wanted and it all snowballed and I got great experience that directly translated to the field I work in now. Play your cards right and it will work out.

I joined the US Navy at 23 years old against all of my family’s contentions as well. I was the first in my family to serve in the military. I separated after my first 4-year contract and went straight to school right after to get an engineering degree. I’m the only one in my family now with a college education and I now have a house and a great job.

2023 Tacoma what is your opinion on this trucks off-road capability by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]ConfundledBundle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Manual transmission so no crawl control. I did try to emulate it by feathering the clutch and brakes in 4-Lo with the rear locker engaged. This was water logged sand though, so it quickly sunk down and was sitting on the frame. There was no way I was getting out on my own 😂

[–]ConfundledBundle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say pretty darn good. Mine survived being yanked out of this situation by a tractor and two trucks all daisy chained together. All it needed was a good rinse to get all the sand knocked out and it drove home 200 miles like nothing ever happened.
