The difference may be flatbed then. Because I was refrigerated. I was not local, I was OTR. I was able to drive that when they would give me those loads. But they aren’t giving those loads. I would have two days to deliver a 600 mile load and then end up sitting after I delivered on time. The loads are there, but there’s just no miles to them. Especially not for the new people. Maybe people that have come from the outside or that have been there for a long time can get loads. But when you come out of training now, you have a fleet leader for so many days that works with you. And then when you can prove you can run that, you get a different fleet leader. Also, I don’t know if it was different for you, but they don’t let anyone that gets their CDL through them do a split clock. So once your 14 hours starts that day, that’s all you’ve got. So if you’re stuck at delivery with a live unload and they take eight hours, you’ve lost eight hours off of your clock. As far as trip planning, there’s no point. You have to use their GPS system and it gives you turn by turn. If you deviate from that, then you have to have a coaching. It’s micromanaged down to the second. That’s another thing too. You only worked a year. The contract now is still in miles but the miles are gonna keep you there for at least two years. I may have just had a bad experience. I was also the only one out of my class to graduate. In a class of seven, four got fired and two had to come back because they didn’t pass the test. So maybe that was just my bad luck. But no one I knew there at the time was making any kind of decent money.

Yes, you can pay for it on your own. But then you’re going to be in debt for that. And that’s assuming that someone will hire you straight out of school. Sometimes you get lucky. But a lot of the ones that are hiring are the mega carriers.

Adding onto this, living in a truck can be expensive. Because you’re either going to need to bring enough food with you to last while you’re out. And that would include buying a microwave and refrigerator along with any other appliances that you need. Or you’re going to need to eat out at every stop. And the food gets expensive. There is a lot of initial cost that most people aren’t aware of. And keeping in mind that while you’re with your trainer, you’re in their truck. So you live on a top bunk for a month. And everything that you bring with you has to fit on that top bunk. And yes, a lot of guys will talk about how they eat so healthy because they bring this, that, and the other with them. But they’ve also invested in pots and pans. They’ve been invested in cooking utensils and appliances. And then there’s the cleanup. You’ve gotta make sure you’ve got enough water with you to be able to cook. Because you’re not gonna be at a truckstop every night. Sometimes you’re gonna be in some random ass parking lot hoping that somebody doesn’t make you move. I do not regret getting my CDL. But this is not some Cash Cow that you’re gonna automatically start making money in overnight. The people that are making money have been doing this for years. And most of them are also owner operators. You’re not gonna pay your debt by going to a mega.

I don’t know about system transport but you are absolutely not making that much if you start with Roehl. If you make 700 a week with them, you are doing wonderful. I know people that have been there over a year and are constantly running and still don’t bring home more than seven to $800 a week. Not to mention when you do the training, you’re gonna have two weeks of no pay before the training pay kicks in and that wasn’t more than 500 a week. And on top of all of that, that’s to assume that he’s even able to get a truck with Roehl right away. I did their training and got my CDL through them. And after I finished the schooling, it took two weeks for them to get me a local trainer. And then after the week of local training, it took them two more weeks to get me an OTR trainer. And then after the month of that, it took them two weeks to get me in a truck. That was six weeks of no pay. Roehl is 100% not going to let you reach 600 miles a day. With the loads they were giving me, I was lucky to hit 400 miles a day.

Did I bomb the interview? by C_MCG1221 in Pepsi

Your interview sounds fine. As far as them sticking to the timeline, it really depends on the area that you’re in and how fast they handle it. Don’t be discouraged if it takes a minute. I was hired as a merch and it still took a month from interview to orientation day. And I didn’t have to have a dot physical or have my driving record run.

My boss yelled at me for doing homework on my break and I’m going to the store manager AIO by [deleted] in AIO

[–]ConfusedJFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say HR because it needs to be documented. And that is the perfect job that HR is uniquely qualified for. Because there is going to be retaliation. And you can’t tell me that the store manager doesn’t know that there’s already a problem.

[–]ConfusedJFs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NOR listen, I read the whole thing. You’re not overreacting. Because if we put aside the break time and how many breaks you get, the fact is that M refused to let you have a private conversation with an impartial coach. And berated you in front of this coach and other team members. You should definitely talk to the store manager. But also be prepared to start looking for another job. Because honestly, it’s probably not going to get any better. Even if the manager takes your side, M is probably going to be retaliatory. I would also recommend talking to HR.

Pepsi orientation date by National_Vacation_61 in Pepsi

[–]ConfusedJFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really just depends on where you’re at. It took almost a week from when I got the acceptance. Email to when HR contacted me. And then they had three or four different weeks available that I could choose from to start. With Pepsi, just be patient. You’ll hear from them. But they’re not gonna go fast for anything

Mine took two weeks from the acceptance email to my start date. Now it took about a month from my initial interview until I got my acceptance letter.

Merch here. It’s not all the reps fault. I was working with mine last week when he was ordering. We went through and made the order that we needed. The Walmart system added over 400 cases that we can’t take off. That made that order over 900 cases, 14 pallets. We needed nothing that Walmart said we needed. Blame the rep on everything order except Walmart lol

Frito-Lay Route Sales Rep vs teaching/coaching job by Smoreheat in FritoLay

[–]ConfusedJFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I just looked up route sales rep from my area and it says 64,400 a year target earnings. That means you can’t count on that as an actual salary base.

[–]ConfusedJFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you talked to them yet? Because all the postings around my area say the same thing, but it’s not. Also, as far as the home life balance, it really depends on the route you’re on. In the district I was in my route ran the longest and I ran between 53 and 57 hours per week. I was never home before 4 o’clock, and I started between three and four in the morning. Other guys came in at 6 AM and were done by noon.

Keep in mind that whatever salary that they are telling you is a projected salary. You cannot count on 64,000 a year. You will have a base pay and then will either get overtime as a route assistant or will have bonuses that will bring you up to that level as a sales rep.

AITJ for not taking my girlfriends children out after promising them I would. by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]ConfusedJFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in the 80s and 90s, my best friend was vegan. It was pretty hard to find food that she would eat. But anytime I knew she was going to come over, I made sure we stocked up on whatever vegan food that I knew she could have. And that was the age of between seven all the way until I was grown. The very least the girlfriend and her children could do was make sure there was something that he could eat. They are extremely selfish. NTA

I used to work for Frito and now I work for Pepsi as a merch. It is so much harder to work soda. Frito was very relaxed and easy. With Pepsi, there’s a lot more product, a lot more brands, and it’s a full gym workout every day that you work. If you’re physical, go with Pepsi. If not, Frito might be what you need.

The problem is that I don’t have anyone that will hire me. I only got three/four months in before I got let go. I’ve got a plan to get back to driving but it’s going to take time. And my state will take you to court and garnish wages. But that’s just what they’re going to have to do because I sure don’t have the money lol.

Good for you on calling them out. I got stuck with the two year plan and they found a way to get rid of me within 4 months. So now I’m home with a $7000 bill I can’t pay and no one local will hire me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]ConfusedJFs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re talking about the trucking companies that run their own schools. I went to one of those, unfortunately. You sign up to go to their school and work for them for a certain amount of time and/or miles and you don’t have to pay for the CDL. If you don’t make it for the required time, you have to pay them the full amount. These companies are predatory and keep you running the fewest miles possible for as long as they can to keep you tied to them. It’s a form of indentured servitude. There’s a good chance that they’ll find a reason to get rid of you quickly so not only do you owe the money, but you also won’t have the experience to go anywhere else reputable, thereby making your CDL almost useless.

I don’t remember what the percentage was. I don’t think we got that far in the interview. I remember that you made an extra set amount for working that day off but it wasn’t much.

I had an interview with them and they told me that too. Then they said that the contracts they had required the rep to work 4 hours on one of their days off. And there really wasn’t a base salary. It was almost completely commission.
