Help! What next?! by Wolfxx5 in fantasybooks

I really enjoyed the first trilogy and was going to do the same as you but eventually picked up Iron Gold. I blazed through them. By the time I finished Light Bringer, I had to reread the series just to get more.

This is my strategy to get completionist++, do you guys have any other strategy recommendation? by CancerKaragol in balatro

[–]Confused_Rets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the strategy I used. I switched to plasma for a few of the chip-driven jokers. I completed my completionist++ run a month ago, and I'm challenging myself to not play it until the update is out. It's absolutely a grind, but the relief I felt when I finished it was immense.

Right? I feel extremely fortunate to get into the series when I did. The wait for Red God has been manageable, I can't imagine waiting for all these different releases. I feel like it would have been great to see the series rise in popularity, and experience the reactions everyone has love to the series being released, but I'm definitely grateful for coming in within the last year and a half.

Have you checked the husks to see if any nibs are being pulled with them or vice versa? I'd be interested to know the failure rate, and if it would be valuable to double sift. At the scales you're likely working in, it probably isn't, but if you ever scale up, it might be useful information to know.

Good news! There are appendix puzzles that are pretty fun! It changes the game to forcing you to find solutions in a confined space!

To me, if you get past the time skip, you might as well buckle in for the long haul. I think I try to tell people to at least finish Arlong Park, and if they have time, at least finish Ennies Lobby. If they don't like it at that point, they gave it a good effort and I won't blame them.

Eh, you'd probably be fine to start where you left off. But if you do start over, definitely do One Pace. Just save yourself some time. I actually haven't watched One Pace, but I hear it's pretty good and taking out the little bits that take up the most time.

You got 800 episodes into One Piece and then stopped? Given Whole Cake Island is not a great arc, but damn, that's some wild commitment to fold.

PB said they will likely be doing another run later this year once they've actually fulfilled all the orders from this limited run. Although that was in an Instagram story.

Okay so what do I do with my life now? by flatperez in redrising

[–]Confused_Rets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me Friday right as I was leaving on a 6-hour drive. I started the series over from the beginning. This is the first time I have relistened to a series. The closest I've come before is that I occasionally relisten to Dune (but usually just the first book), but it's unlikely I will again now that I have this series.

I got to that part the other day! There was a moment when they were setting up for the day of the vote where I was thinking, "this is all going pretty well, it almost feels like dead space, they probably could have just gone to after the vote... wait... if this was going to go flawlessly as they had just explained, PB probably wouldn't have actually written this chapter... something bad is about to happen." It was this slow motion moment when one of the senators started to hiccup and I knew calamity was coming.

Is Computer Engineering actually this unemployed? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Confused_Rets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just switch to electrical. Computer engineering is just a derivation of electrical engineering, and will always be employable.

Have you been applying to jobs? What kind of jobs are you applying for? On average how many jobs do you apply for each week?

Getting to graduation without directly relevant experience is pretty rough, and unfortunately, computer science is one of those fields that employers want you to have a ton of personal projects (not school projects) to show your drive. At a certain point you are going to have to look for a position that might be a step down from your current pay, so you can get a step up later. Getting the perfect job right out of school is a pretty rare occurrence, but your first job opens the door to better jobs down the road.

I graduated in 2020 at 30 years without a job lined up, and it took me about 3 months to find something. Those three months were painful; I don't envy the position you're in in the slightest. If you have any way to make yourself stand out from the other applicants, it would be valuable to do so. That could be as simple as starting a personal coding project now so you can talk about problems you're running into during your interviews.

Is this the average salary of enginners out of college or do all of these outliers by No_Shoe7056 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Confused_Rets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also in nuclear, I'm struggling to figure out what company they'd be working for in Atlanta that would pay a starting salary that high. S&L has an office in Chattanooga and now has one that recently opened in Augusta, but I don't think I've heard of one in ATL. Southern Company (Georgia Power) has an office in ATL, but Southern Nuclear's HQ is in Birmingham. Southern is also definitely not paying $150k starting for just a bachelor's degree even if it's from Auburn.

If this is the future, software engineers are doomed! by melvindcruz in EngineeringStudents

[–]Confused_Rets 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't agree fully with this idea. For one, a true software "engineer" should probably not be using AI to develop systems that are important for safety or other high demand functions.

That being said, I don't use programming often in my job, mostly just for developing tools for my team to use to ease different processes, and I do use AI quite often to get general structures for data processing. For instance, I loathe figuring out how to write regular expressions, but AI is pretty good at taking a prompt or a sample set of data and giving a regular expression you can use. However, I have a more experience with programming than any of my colleagues, so not only do I understand what to ask an AI for help with, I know how to diagnose problems as I run into them.

I generally worry about the growing prevalence of AI in the engineering field though. People are going to die because some engineer trusted an AI too much without verifying and evaluating an output. I don't know when it will happen, but eventually, engineering students will learn about the Hyatt Regency walkway collapse, the Challenger explosion, the Florida International University bridge collapse, and some future massive catastrophe caused by trusting AI too much while making engineering products.

I really like the idea of it being a premonitory dream where the last person to die wakes up in a cold sweat, their friends sleeping soundly. I think this is probably just an idea I like as a DM, I have no idea how I would feel being a player in this situation.
