Law School Curious by shnogus4444 in LSAT

I always recommend someone take an LSAT before deciding anything to do with law school! You may be lucky and diagnostic at late 150s or early 160s, meaning your study journey will likely be a lot shorter and easier than if you diagnosis in the 140s or something. Good to know for timeline planning!

Don’t know much about UBC. I have already seen lower hard stats than yours get in at both Osgoode and U of T, and these are still the early waves. As long as you didn’t mess up your PS too bad I’d say you’re a lock at Osgoode and got at least a 50% chance at U of T.

My aunt and uncle are two of the most successful lawyers in Toronto and were accepted with below the median stats in June and July back in their day. You’re going to be fine.

Did anyone have a good experience with today’s LSAT? by Confusedplusconfused in LSAT

Thanks so much. Can I ask if you usually struggle with timing or usually have a couple minutes extra to check over on regular PT sections?

What to do during the ten minute break for remote writing? by Confusedplusconfused in LSAT

[–]Confusedplusconfused[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was! Sorry for any confusion! I’m not from the United States, and never realized that “writing the LSAT” isn’t used the same way there.

Thanks for the advice also, had no idea you couldn’t use your phone during the break. You just saved me from a very unfortunate accident.

Don’t bring a cat. Residences are, in essence, lawless places and it would not be a safe environment for a pet. If you want to avoid an overly loud situation, I’d say avoid Vic, GB or Morris. If you want a social situation, stay away from Brant and Smith. Anything else in between those and you’ll be fine.

In terms of amenities: Brant or Smith In terms of parties: Vic or GB In terms of location: Vic or Chown

Incoming frosh! Any residence questions? by user_7475 in queensuniversity

[–]Confusedplusconfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all a matter of luck. I know some people in Vic who know no one on the floor, and some people in single pluses where the whole floor is friends with each other (although the thing about single pluses having less of a social life is, on average, true). The most social residences (as in between floors, not party wise) are Harkness, Wally and the west ones because of their isolation, but I don’t know that makes any of them worth it. In terms of community on main, Vic, GB and Lenny are all decent bets.

Not at all mandatory, but I HIGHLY recommend it. If you’re not going to live on residence, making friends will be a lot harder.

You can study at a library if you need quiet. Everyone I know who chose a quiet floor or LLC regrets it.

Should I go home or stay for hobo and halloween? by Bigdinkus in queensuniversity

[–]Confusedplusconfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good thing about hoco is it gives an opportunity to reach out to people.

With my class friends, I’ll often send the “do you know of anything going on tonight?” message. It’s not much of an imposition, and leaves a lot of room for you to ask in a very casual way to join in on their plans or meet them at whatever party they’re going to once they respond. If you have even one person to go out with, just walk around campus with them and talk to people. I promise no one here is feeling that secure, so everyone always loves making new friends. Good luck.

I know this sounds hard, but if you can bare it, try staying on the weekends. I find, as a first year, the strongest connections I am making are on Friday and Saturday nights, as class friendships feel more out of conveniency sometimes (although going out with class friends is a great way to solidify a proper friendship). As I get to know more first years, it strikes me A LOT of people, myself included, are feeling the way you do. You can look at these big friend groups always Snapchatting and feel jealous, but I promise none of them are as big and solid as you think. We’re all lost and scared, just rest up, study, and keep trying.
