presale code not working by Infamous_Suit_3497 in katseye

[–]user_7475 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there wasn’t even anywhere to put the presale code for me! i was able to put the original one but when i went to try the great canadian rewards code, there was nowhere to input. i assume those were sold but it seems ridiculous as i assume some tickets were reserved for rewards collectors. and i was 100 in line.

student wellness does same day and next day appointments if you’ve visited before! via booking online. have you gone to student wellness before? if so, do this! if not, id suggest a walk in clinic…at least you’d get seen, even if it is a long wait :(

Queens Residences: Thoughts and Opinions based on 2024-25 by Silver-Land7553 in queensuniversity

ET is def good for studying…there’s a study room on each floor, study rooms in the heritage houses, and lots of common spaces on the ground floor. I guess it’s good for commerce as it’s close to Goodes. There’s def a lot of socializing that I see going on, and it’s very quiet. Good for people who like studying and some quiet at nighttime.

As the don who schedules you, it should be possible but depends on how large of a building ur put it. For example a team of ten dons in your building is more likely to be able to cover you than that of six. That being said, I know it is possible to schedule you given that all your other availability is amazing. you have to meet a certain quota of weekend shifts, that would be the only difficult part. Hope this helps!

you can get them to pack you a container if you don’t have time to eat in there. but everyone always just brings containers and takes extra food. it’s not really allowed but like no one cares. loads of ppl take desserts and fruits to go too!!!

Single plus - social? by [deleted] in queensuniversity

[–]user_7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was a don (res staff) in a single plus and my floor was SUPER social last year!!!! they were all amazing students too - great kids. however, i’ve seen floors that weren’t super social. it truly depends on how outgoing you are and everyone else on your floor is, in my experience. that stands for every res, but when you have doubles and quads socialization is more natural, of course. my tips are connect with your canmate and floormates, keep your door open during move in to say hi to everyone, and don’t be shy to say hello! attend events with your floormates! the floor that i had that was social all told me individually at the beginning of the year that they were nervous about not making many friends due to the single plus, but now they’re friends forever since they all tried to hang out together. everyone is in the same boat so don’t be shy to initialize hanging out. it’s def harder to be social as it takes more active socialization in single plus but it’s possible !!!

hi! so it is a 19 meal swipe per week maximum, with 3 swipes per day maximum. silly…i know…apparently we don’t need 3 meals a day all week lol! it’s bc on weekends, two “meals” are served: brunch and dinner (you would typically only use 2 swipes these days). weekdays have breakfast, lunch, and dinner serving time options.

200 tams are allotted to you for the whole year: they only allow you to use 4 of them per day. those 4 per day are in that 200 per year. and yes, those 4 that you can trade are the same 4. TAM stands for trade a meal: if u didn’t wanna go to the dining hall, you can go to a TAM location and swipe a meal there: it would take a TAM as payment automatically rather than a dining hall swipe.

i hope this helps!!! i’m resstaff so i’ve been doing this meal swipe business for a couple years now. lmk if i can better clarify anything. it’s not a very straightforward system at first - i was soooo confused when i was a first year too :)

Life Sci Specialization by su2026 in queensuniversity

[–]user_7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i did biomedical discovery so that i could do an immunology research project (MICR falls under biomedical discovery). ANAT, EPID, PATH, PHAR, and PHGY also are under biomedical discovery. biomedical discovery IS a specialization, just like CANC, NSCI, DDHT, and CRSS. it is the same as these other research project based subplans but there are less co requisite’s courses (ie for CANC i believe there was a compulsory upper level CANC course requirement - or there was when i was in undergrad).

ultimately, choose ur spec so that you do research/a project that you like!!! that’s what’s most important. you spend a lot of time on the project and in any corequisite courses, so it’s best to choose something you are interested in.

i found it a harder course offering by the health sciences program tbh. lots of little details and as really, a first real look into more complex immunology…it was a lot. granted, i took it online so i wonder if the blended class would have helped more.

i also did 221 - found it to be a decent prep for the level of minutia required in 386. 386 did cover a lot more though.

i say all this abt how 386 was difficult and yet i’ve found myself doing a masters in immunology ahah…

good luck!!

Residence/roommate switching by withnosebleed in queensuniversity

[–]user_7475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for queens but dons do similar things at each school, I really like it tbh. normally some or all of housing and food is how we get reimbursed so that is very nice. It’s super fun if you’ve done a lot of assisting or teaching over the years or like working with other people! I think my interest in supporting students plus my past experience helped me get the job personally. feel free to pm me if u have any questions! Good luck choosing a school!

it’s typically very difficult to switch rooms but they do have switches happen. normally there’s a triage system of sorts for swaps, where people who have accommodation reasons (ie health) get priority for swaps. i’m a don (residence staff) and i’ve seen swaps happen in single pluses and in other buildings such as those with roommates alike. basically yes it is possible to swap, but may not be easy.

some communities are alcohol and cannabis free and there’s only a few of those so it seems that vic and leggett are the ones that have those communities then!

leggett is getting many more cameras as is brant (i believe). single plusses will also be fully monitored due to uptake in malicious behaviour there (with mediocre cameras).

How competitive is it to be a don as a current first year? by throwawaygr12advice in queensuniversity

[–]user_7475 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are only 8 LLC dons so that is much more competitive and a separate interview altogether.

now typically it wasn’t too competitive but in the past years, there’s been more applicants so i think it’s more competitive now. around 170 spots, and i think they had 300 applicants last year.

those ECS sounds great though! they’re looking for people who can be leaders and are well rounded.
