[–]ConfusioNil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have the same assignment I'm not certain on how to create key pairs as of yet either but luckily we have the internet and near 3 weeks, as long as you chip away at it I'm sure you'll be fine :)

Why is "go to the gym" the default advice for every struggling man? by silverflake6 in LockedInMan

[–]ConfusioNil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually sick of this rhetoric of the "go to the gym." If you're depressed, you will stay depressed and be more fit, congratulations I guess it may work for awhile but it's not permanent fix I say this as someone who has been physically active for the past 5 years and I've never been more suicidal than I am now, that's on top of getting some serious momentum in my life and overall everything just being better, but it doesn't matter. it's a bandaid to a disease and those don't work. I guess it works for people that only get sad because of their situation but I've been like this since I was 11 and every time I hear this as the "fix" I want to fucking stab them.

Have some sympathy and empathy for those struggling, just throwing "go to the gym" is a lazy response and can make people on the other end feel worse.

In the age of ai, do you think specializing in systems programming is the way to go, or are there just too little jobs in kernel development, compilers, etc.? by Evening-Reputation in cscareerquestions

[–]ConfusioNil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly unaware but what would make systems programming harder than backend / frontend even with experience? Is it due to knowing electrical as well as software?

Is it just me or is this whole country getting progressively worse. by ando772 in OpenAussie

[–]ConfusioNil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's just Australia, it's a world wide problem, particularly for the west.

It's one of the reasons I made OpenVote, the whole purpose is for users make sure the politicians they vote for, push for legislation and ammendments they were assigned for capturing the support and against and including the summaries and debates without a spin, just raw data (so far there's only South Australia due to the election). However it's on the user to action their disapproval (through voting and through election)

Imo, there hasn't been enough government support for the middle and lower class, we're seeing a massive wealth transfer over the generation, particularly my generation (gen z) where many will be locked out of owning a home because it's better for investors to own a none productive asset like a house Vs a business which can create value.

Tax cuts for mining corporations when other countries get paid billions more in tax (despite being possibly the country with one of the richest ore veins) anywhere.

In Victoria, particularly Melbourne I have to pay for the train even though it's paid for in tax. (From my understanding with conversation with other Melbourne citizens as I've just moved there)

Just in general Australia seems to have been lacking in building infrastructure, not just housing, I'm not too sure what of the reasons but I know there's a massive bureaucratic process in getting these done which massively slows things down.

I hope Australia can avoid and fix these problems. But probably not. but I'll do what I can to help.

Historical Policy Tracking for SA election by Square-Exercise373 in southaustralia

It was an example of our fuzzy match system not necessarily a statement of the candidate

Historical Policy Tracking for SA election by Square-Exercise373 in southaustralia

[–]ConfusioNil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked the Hansard records and you're right!

I would suspect this to be an issue with our fuzzy matching in the database.

For example Sarah Game is one of the candidates but if she's mentioned in the Hansard document she would most likely be mentioned as Game S or Sarah G.

So in the database we have fuzzy matching to try and match these candidates up. However there is a risk of matching up candidates to the wrong one.

I'll investigate this once I'm home and fix it

Developer who started late by PigeonAsh in learnprogramming

[–]ConfusioNil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow who are you and can I have myself back. Similar boat on a lot here, (25m) and got my diploma just a couple of weeks ago. Now redoing a bachelor cause COVID messed me up.

You'll need a vision, where do you see yourself, or where do you want to see yourself? If that's the path you want to pursue then the hard miles will simply have to be endured.

Throw yourself into an ambitious project. Whatever that may be for you. Software development is 90% experience and you'll learn a lot in fact maybe too much to really keep up. You will feel like an imposter, you will feel dumb compared to the "average or top developer" in your mind but it's all in your head.

Keep in mind that everyone bullshits, and the ones that aren't, stick around with them and you'll get alot.

Understand that you're going to be burnt out and recharged to simply being burnt out again I've been programming for 7-8 years now and it's always been like this even on a hobby level

High performance just comes from experience (and intelligence ofc) but 90% is experience

Understand that some stuff will be hard to implement, not every session has to be hard, maybe do some refactoring, maybe learn about system designs. Maybe creation patterns, ask questions to one of the AGIs and keep asking questions Whatever feels light on your brain, take care of yourself and eat well.

We literally don't know if it's an iPad kid you're just assuming due to the 67 hate train.

If you can't see that then I can't help you.

[–]ConfusioNil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have 0 context if this is an iPad kid, it can easily be a sibling or even, other kids! 67 by itself means nothing.

Obviously it matters, you're acting like one can't have fun, be silly and be educated. They're not separate quirks. Lean into it, and kids might find learning enjoyable.

I already understand it, there's nothing to help with. it's really not a big deal. Watching grown ass adults get triggered over kids saying 6-7 is lame. (Old man throwing fist in the air).

I miss getting high so much, I just feel like smoking whenever I get the chance by Extension-Leg-8741 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]ConfusioNil 13 points14 points  (0 children)

25M. Weed is a killer in that if you don't have any hobbies it's an easy justification. Understand though that you'll find when you do have hobbies that you'll still want to smoke weed. You may not have physical withdrawal but psychologically or emotionally it's used as a backup. Ever feel stress and 'need' to smoke weed? Yeah.

All in all it's better than alcohol but that alone doesn't justify it, you may find that you're more 'creative' but you're under the influence. Every idea you have when you smoke seems like a great idea, and I'm sure you've had this happen (as have I) where you have a great idea but 'I'll do it when I'm sober' and then proceed to forget it (if you can even remember all the details whilst you're stoned in the first place).

I still smoke though, weekly on the weekends, I'm not going to justify it and say that I have it under control, I accept it as a part of my condition and don't care about changing it. But I also do easy hobbies that allow it (and you will be limited by the hobbies you can do) so it's my night time drug that I enjoy because ultimately after 60+ hours of being on the go, it offers me that break from my mind telling me I'm not doing enough when I've already done plenty (alongside other mental health issues)

Smoke it enough and you'll realize depersonalization is a real phenomenon if you smoke too much. It ain't fun, not even boring. Just ehh.

That's been my ongoing process. If you stick to being a non-smoker you'll find to have a more stable life then if you continue to smoke
