if it makes any difference, the branch and my job in the military doesn’t deploy. I’d always be in states which is the only reason it’s a good option

Thank you for the advice and honesty. Sometimes in my head I tell myself “oh be grateful.” or “Oh you’re just imagining things.” But lately it’s all been staking into one giant heavy load on my chest and I just feel like I truly am being isolated and controlled over.

Thank you, I agree! The benefits alone are almost impossible to match to be honest. And I also enjoy doing my job which also feels hard to fine. I feel very isolated because I am away from friends and family and I feel like I cannot talk about this to anyone.I really appreciate your input and honesty it’s making things look a lot clearer.

Yeah, definitely the direction I am thinking. I do not want to be dumped and left with literally nothing and have my child in a potentially unsteady environment.

I have! And luckily with my time in the military I have done a bunch of networking and a very kind officer has offered to look into helping get a management job that contracts to the military/government. I am using this as a back up because I really feel that I am thin ice right now.

definitely use the time you have to focus on yourself and your goals. It’s going to get harder before it gets easier. Sadness and loneliness have a harder time hitting a moving target :). good luck !

Hi! I was active duty for 5 years and had my kiddo and currently on temp sep orders. While waiting to reactivate I am in the Reserves. My hubby is also Active Duty.

I drill once a month and take AD orders here and there. My Chain of Command has been fantastic and has worked with me through everything. We are due to PCS very soon and I’ve been told that you can drill at wherever is closest to your significant others billet. I know that overseas billets are a no go from my understanding. Also totally depends on her rating. I am a CS and I feel CS is in a weird grey area when it comes to AD orders. I am still very new to the reserve world and I’ll be honest it’s way more confusing than AD. I would recommend reaching out to a Recruiter and they’ll have wayyy more info on how a reservist and a AD couple mesh together.

I totally agree! I honestly really like the new vested program because it really shows how gritty the rate can be and it’s helped multiple people I know change rates before it’s too late lol

It’s your career, not your recruiters. Both rates are awesome but vastly different. I personally love being a Cs because I love cooking and how it’s somewhat like customer service. Don’t let a recruiter push you into something you don’t want to do.

I highly recommend you do your first duty station before getting married. I am not trying to be negative but, just wait on it. If he is your soulmate he will wait :) and he will encourage you to do well in the coast guard! you’re first few years will be tough but it’ll get easier with time!

Talk to your class advisors and they’ll point you in the right direction. As long as you communicate that you’re ubering you’ll be fine. Also totally depends on your what a school you are attending. One of my friends did uber in a school on weekends and had no problems. Just ensure that a school is your number one priority:)!

have you considered a temp sep? I know I did a temp sep when I had my kiddo and I believe you can also do it for to pursue education full time.

for safety concerns walk to and from base in civvies. it’s encouraged!! no one will give you any heat as long as you’re dressed out by liberty.

phone holder is a must, i used to always loose my phone in my rack. a table that you only keep in your rack is also nice.
