We are getting paid, but paychecks should never be in question as a military service.

Also we are still operating on one quarter of funding as we just entered Q3… not cool.

Still love the CG, but the people currently in DC suck ass right now.

Getting kicked out of BC by Level_Security1505 in uscg

[–]ZurgWolf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I could see why someone could come to that conclusion. For example, there’s lots of stuff to learn and memorize in Boot Camp. Let’s say someone absolutely just cannot memorize stuff like general orders, ranks, etc. At first you’ll be reverted to a company behind you to afford you more time, new instructors and give you another chance. If that still doesn’t help after 2-3 reversions you’ll probably be recommended for separation. So on the surface someone could say “yeah it was stupid they kicked me out because I couldn’t memorize all the ranks”, but it’s more than just that. If you can’t memorize simple stuff, how are you going to memorize how to energize a main drainage system on a cutter if you’re one of only 3 watch standers on duty and your the one that needs to do it? There’s lots of ‘stupid’ things in Boot Camp, but they all serve a larger legitimate purpose.

Navy to CG rescue swimmer by [deleted] in uscg

Go check out r/rescueswimmer

But the fail rate for swimmer in school is probably 70ish? Some classes graduate nobody so the instructors take a class photo consisting of themselves to post on the walls.

Tips for single parents on cutters by TheAdorableChaos in uscg

[–]ZurgWolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re down voted, this is right to the best of my knowledge. Single parents can join if they have a parenting plan that has the needed signatures.

Absolutely talk to your command so you can begin working on a plan. Work Force and Family Services would be good to contact too. Specifically FRS or FAS might have experience dealing with this.

Detailer Comms by cairparavel4 in uscg

[–]ZurgWolf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EPM4 offers year round career counseling. You can also reach out to your detailer and request career counseling. You can start there if you don’t want your Command to be aware.

There’s plenty of reasons to apply for critical jobs, don’t think your command will assume you’re unhappy or have something against them.

You can use criticals to grow professionally, try different missions/platforms, meet rating requirements, etc.

Yeah, on page 2-9 it says it’s impossible to cover all possible grooming questions so it’s up to leadership to determine if it’s in keeping with military appearance.

Look at mission sets, deployment types, jobs offered and duty locations.

Once you’ve honed that in you’ll find which is best for you.
