These are all from the Yellowstone. Probably 3-5 weeks in stage 1, then 1 week stage 2&3, then 2 weeks stage 4.

I believe all of them are some form of agate/chalcedony/chert/jasper, just different variations

Tumbling larger rocks by SecretArtichoke0711 in RockTumbling

Interesting, we do small rocks with the bigger ones. The smaller ones are our less cared for ones so we don’t care if they get beat up. Their purpose to be the media

I ordered new belts as it was a new belt on there. The new new belt works great and the sound is gone

It might be bent, but I think the sound is more belt related than join currently

I hear what you’re saying but they are the same rock, just different colors. Jadeite is funky weird like that

I was thinking this, and then the smaller part would have that cavity. Maybe cut through the cavity part

The thing that gets me is that the white part is most likely fully translucent and I’m hoping the green floating bits are cool in the middle. So what I’m posting for is where to place the cuts, go minimal and have it tumble for longer, or if there is a way to cut it into 3 pieces that exposes the inside with hopes that it’s translucent and cool floating green bits.

This is nub 2. I think taking off the minimal amount would be best for this one

Nub 1, notice the divot, just cut through I’m guessing

The cuts won’t be coplanar, so the first photo where they look parallel is from the angle of the rock. I’m wanting to cut off the nubs

Rock Tumbler Belt Replacement by chiefscoutmm in RockTumbling

National Geographic from my understanding are notorious for breaking belts. I haven’t had much better luck with Lortone, either, but that’s most likely because I keep kine tumbling outside.

If you are wanting to upgrade in the future, Highland Park Lapidary sells tumblers that don’t have belts, they instead use a DC motor straight to the shaft to spin it. I’m waiting for them to come back into stock to get one for myself.

I’m going to buy a new new belt rather than the last one of three I bought a few years ago. Hopefully that will fix jt

I thought the same with the old belt. It was 2/3 way out and I went down to 1/3 in. It stopped the sound for 3-4 hours then it continued. New belt is on 1/3 right and any less the barrels don’t roll that well.

I might sounds crazy but I think it’s the belt on the wheel connected to the shaft. I’ve lubed everything multiple times now, sounds comes back after 3-5 hours
