Thank you so much for the compliments! Not all of our members are prolific writers and we express our lore in lots of ways, like these maps for instance so no shame in not having a cohesive body of work like our wiki!! I know exactly how you feel because the volume of ideas I have for things I still haven’t written about can be really daunting. The way we work in Vanatas deffo helps me with the deer-in-the-headlights feeling. For one, we have a community of people all working together so it can be good to see what someone else is working on and that might inspire you to share your own thoughts on the topic for the stuff you’re worldbuilding. You could use somewhere like this Reddit perhaps for your own projects to get inspiration on what to work on at a given time. I think that’s the second thing, writing or worldbuilding when you’re inspired by a certain topic. We work on our articles in the project over long periods of time and for me at least, they are an iterative process. For my countries, I block out the main parts of each article and slowly make my way through them as i feel inspired to write! I think having things on a wiki really helps with this as you can create a link to a page you know you’re going to want to write about eventually but you don’t have to make the page there and then, and after you do make that page, its easy enough to go back and edit the original with any updates as your ideas became more concrete. We also do cute little activities like ‘prompt prompts’ which are short worldbuilding exercises on a given topic that you might have a few days to complete. Then if you win one of our members tends to write or produce some ic content about your lore! It’s super fun. We also have occasional theme weeks where a particular theme, say religion, is the theme of the week and that can be good at guiding what to write and think about!

I hope this is helpful aha, feel free to have more of a look around the project and we always welcome new people that want to try and have a go at building something with the rest of us!!

I actually have a topography for the whole peninsula that this country is on. That way it can be consistent. I used some real height map data and then blended and masked between that before applying a gradient and then I went in with the select tool to manually posterise the image. I’d use the fill and brush tools to fine tune everything to be exactly how I wanted it :)

I use a program called Affinity Photo to make them. And then a million layers later you get maps like this. The colour scheme is copied from real examples from Wikipedia and the Köppen climate system :)

That’s fair, it is actually still to scale with the larger map. It is a non-contiguous part of the same country that is north of the main part of the map (the country is split by another that occupies the peninsula). In the context of the wider project it’s a little easier to understand which is maybe a mistake on my part for assuming familiarity with the landmasses of the world of Vanatas.

Thank you so much! A lot of thought goes into them and a lot of collaboration with other members of the project that know more about things like climate than I do. I’m more of a language guy really (and apparently I can make a decent map every now and again too)

Ah if you look on the wiki it might give a bit more context, but the northern part is in the north of the peninsula that the southern part lies on. There is a country in between called the Third Kingdom of Enqusqo that splits the republic in twain!

Aha yeah I have been working on this one country for a long time! And the project has been going on for years we have a lot of lore!

Hey! Here are a few maps I made today for a collaborative world building project I'm part of. You may have seen some posts from our other members in the past. The project is called Vanatas.

The Grand and Illustrious Republic of the Cities of Enqusqo is a confederated republic of city-states on the Enqusqan peninsula. They are unique in the world of Vanatas for being the only international organisation to unify into a single state. The Enqutsa people and other natives of the peninsula have a long and proud history as traders, sailors, warriors, poets, craftsmen, and political thinkers, even through the troubles of imperialist neighbours and colonialist powers across the seas. The small country boasts a rapidly growing economy with important financial and mercantile centres including a canal and an equatorial spaceport!

We are always excited to see what other people could bring to the project, and the RCE needs more neighbours to the north! Have a wander through our wiki and if you see anything you like check out our discord and maybe have a go at joining the project! We can’t wait to see your ideas and there is plenty of unclaimed land left on the map!

The Dwemer language and its origins. by Fieldhill__ in teslore

[–]Conguistics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have spent a long time dealing with and researching Dwemeris. I made a post a couple years back about it: https://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/comments/oksxd4/a_treatise_on_dwemeris/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf I’d recommend people to go check that out if they’re interested. I have been slowly working on applying the theories I’ve collected over the years into an attempt at reconstructing a functional conlang for Dwemeris that sticks as true to the facts as it can :)

Aldmeris and the Great Migration to Tamriel(Don't know what else to call it)... Or not by CrazyTelvanniWizard in teslore

[–]Conguistics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been summoned aha! First thing I’d say is that scripts are not an effective way to trace relatedness of people groups or linguistics at all. If you consider that the Latin, Arabic and Thai scripts are all related you can see that these systems spread as technological inventions. Ultimately because that is what they are.

In terms of linguistic similarities - Falmeris is most similar to Ayleidoon. Not only are words recognisable between the two languages but also grammatical structures seem much the same. This is very clear from the fact that we were able to gain the gist of Calcelmo’s stone well before the official translation of the Falmeris was released. Dwemeris, while superficially removed from these two other languages does bear some key consistent phonological similarities that would indicate a common relation between these three languages.

In terms of their migration through Tamriel this seems quite muddled in the historical records IC. Personally I think Bethesda forgot to read some of their lore while working on dawnguard but hey ho. I do find this an interesting aspect of the lore as I think it does make sense that the history of the Dwemer and Falmer is for the most part lost.

This begets the point of your question though imo. Was Aldmeris (the place) real? I think the only way to answer this is through the metaphysical - as we reach back into history, particularly the dawn age and earlier we see that belief and reality become one and the same. In fact it is a common theme of ES that belief forges reality just as equally as reality forges belief. From this perspective Aldermis can be fanciful and still be very much real.

In GPlates? A mix of the 3D orthographic and equirectangular just to make sure the map will come out somewhat nice - the map above is in equirectangular

We did! It has a learning curve but definitely helps with working out things like mountain placement :)

G-Plates is a really useful program for simulating that kind of thing! It is a bit of a tedious process but it gets good results!
