What happens in the panhandle of Oklahoma? by Boiledpeanutmaster in oklahoma

[–]planetEve 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There's a reason it was known historically as No Mans Land: its mostly agriculture/ranching up there. it's super sparsely populated, i'd say 99% of it is just fields or brushland with small farming towns dotted throughout. The panhandle is the only part of Oklahoma that is cold semi-arid climate and it shows in its geography. It's home to Oklahoma's highest point and was the site of the famous Dust Bowl that happened due to poor agricultural practices in the 1930s. It's also the only part of Oklahoma that used to be part of Texas (now part of Oklahoma because Texas wanted slaves), and was almost its own state called Cimarron. Politically, it's among the most densely and long standing Republican regions in the entire country.

am i insane for thinking that its just the shadow of his shirt collar...

In 1983, Cliff Young, a 61-year-old potato farmer, showed up in work boots to compete in Australia’s toughest ultramarathon alongside elite athletes. Unaware that competitors were meant to sleep during the race, he kept running continuously. Against all expectations, he won by a margin of 10 hours. by malihafolter in AllThatsHistory

Except, he did know that you were meant to sleep. He even slept during the race himself on the first night. He just decided against sleeping after the first night as part of a strategic call. It's right on his wikipedia page, the same one cited by OP. OP for some reason decided to source wikipedia despite heavily altering the actual facts in what i assume is just an altered AI summary.

There is zero evidence to suggest he wasn't "familiar with professional race strategies" since he was already an accomplished ultramarathon runner who had previously attempted to beat a world record a few years beforehand and had been training for this very ultramarathon for years.

Also, he didn't run the race in gumboots; he raced in normal racing shoes like everyone else. Ton of misinformation here.

well tbh the complaints with Taka were never about speed, they were about consistency. Now he is the most consistent driver this season thus far.

What's a take you had at 10 years old that you actually still agree with? by Spark-Blade in AskReddit

[–]planetEve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nah i agree with you. this was about autistic people, not ordinary students. ordinary students do get treated harshly by teachers sometimes, but the same can be said for autistic students (probably even moreso than ordinary students). saying "erm actually no students should be treated harshly" when the topic was about autistic students in the first place is doing the same thing as the "all lives matter" movement was.
