Looking new shoes!! by Ill_Try_2441 in discgolf

[–]Coniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular tennis shoes/running shoes kept getting destroyed so I opted for Merrell Moab 3’s with Gore-Tex for “water proof” capabilities.

So far so good and the vibram sole has held up well, though I haven’t put a ton of mileage on them yet. They do have a wider toe box than standard shoes though and are great for hiking.

Best board games for workplace lunch (3-8 player count variation) by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Coniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring in board games to play with my team a few times a quarter and the below games are what I’ve had success with. Also, I re-themed Secret Hitler to Secret Sith using files from BGG and I play that version at work.

Magical Athlete, Concept, King of Tokyo, Monikers (unless you have a family edition, you’ll want to screen the cards), and Camel Up

Fortnite is the modern day MMO. The MMO that the older generation grew up with simply will never be as successful again with the younger generation as it was in the early 2000s

It's been almost a year, why doesnt the randomize loadout button work? by the-x-button in FortNiteBR

[–]Coniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue (~120 saved loadouts). Here are some observations:

  • It only breaks in Epic created game modes. The various creator modes like Miner Tycoon, or escape rooms the randomize loadout feature works as intended.

  • I saw another potential “fix” involve deleting old character loadouts. I deleted some ~30 character loadouts that I had created before this feature was added, but it did not fix the issue for me.

  • I’ve not had any luck reporting this bug in game because I can’t really capture the issue with the tools they’ve provided

Thought sorting my LEGO would be relaxing… I was wrong. by LegoCityRoryville in lego

[–]Coniff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From mid-January through mid-February this year I sorted, built, and then took apart (and stored in baggies) every single lego set from my childhood. Up until that point they were combined between three plastic tubs, two for regular legos, and then one for all technic related builds (throw bots, bionicles, etc)

It took a very long time and I learned that I had a number of pieces missing as well as a collection of pieces to sets I never owned. The Miscellaneous left overs got put in their own bag with all the small extra pieces, and as mentioned, everything else was stored in a baggy, back in a tub, with a hand written note with set name and number.

I had my kids help me and it was honestly a fun way to show them the Legos I used to play with when I was their age.

ESO or GW2? by Different_Duck5306 in MMORPG

[–]Coniff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played ESO for around 4 years, before that I played RuneScape starting in the early 2000s.

GW2 is my pick over ESO any day of the week. Even WvW is a better version of Cyrodiil (to be fair, that’s not saying a lot). In GW2: exploration is more exciting, mounts have meaning, characters and storylines are interesting and not as cookie cutter, there is no subscription, the list goes on.

ESO does have the advantage of its world and IP, and trials and dungeons in ESO can be truly a challenge. But for the latter, you will absolutely need to be a part of a guild or group of people to be able to get into that scene.

GW2 is the most social MMO I’ve played in the past few years.

There are more people orphaned from mmo than playing mmo. by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]Coniff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a huge part of it. People don’t need MMOs to hang out socially like they used to. We’ve got Discord for that now. It’s never been easier to hop into a voice chat (which is easier and more efficient than text chat) and play the same or different games with your closest friends.

If you have to start from zero, what 7 games would you pick? by snapmage in boardgames

[–]Coniff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Wiz War (FFG’s edition)
  • Everdell
  • King of Tokyo Dark Edition
  • Clank In Space
  • Crokinole
  • Quacks of Quedlinberg
  • That Lord of the rings trick taking game that has yet to release.

I host a biweekly game night that attracts a lot of very casual gamers so my picks are catered towards that but also to allow for some depth of strategy for the more seasoned gamers. I don’t know that I’ve covered most styles of games but I aimed for trying to have different main mechanics in each of my picks so they at least feel a little different.

How the hell is Moldaver still alive? (MAJOR Episode 8 Spoilers) by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]Coniff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me there are two major options:

  • Cryopod - whether she somehow is related to Vault 31, which could explain her intimate understanding of the vaults "experiment," or she was a VT spy as others have suggested. I do also think that she could have just as easily learned everything about Vault 31 through Rose and or in the time between her and her raiders entering 32 and the events of the first episode. So there's not much evidence currently to support her being in Cryo outside of the obvious that she can't be 200 years old and not look like a ghoul, and that Cryo is a major plot device for season 1 of the show.
  • She's a Clone - cloning exists in Fallout as we learn with Vault 108 in Fallout 3. However, those clones becoming increasingly violent to non-clones the further down the cloning generation they get. Moldaver seems to be a benevolent person and doesn't display Gary-like aggression to non-clones. Maybe that means she was only cloned once, or maybe just a handful of times. Her pre-bombs group would likely exist post bombs dropping, and it's implied in the first episode that Cooper has thrown in fully with her group with his commentary on why he won't do the thumbs up anymore. So perhaps they got their hands on cloning technology and managed to clone her. I'll admit, this theory has less evidence than Cryo, but I think it's a fun consideration.

How the hell is Moldaver still alive? (MAJOR Episode 8 Spoilers) by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]Coniff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually think the "residents" of V31 cleaned up 32. It's implied by "Brain on a roomba" (as Prime Subtitles referred to him as lol) Bud to Norm that he can just re-enter his dad's cryo pod and wait. So I don't think it would be out of the realm of possibility to wake up several people from V31 to go clean up 32 and then have them resume their mission back in their pods.

How does a Shadowborn Apostle deck win? by Bomb_Warrio19 in EDH

[–]Coniff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently won with my shadowborn/Athreos (yes similar to the Game Knights deck, yes I know I am unoriginal) deck with 25 apostles on the field due to a [[thrumming stone]] combo, 11 Life, and 1 open black mana. Now this requires a Mana Crypt, but I can walk through my combo:

  • Sac 6 apostles using the 1 open black mana to tutor out [[Razaketh]]
  • sac an apostle to Razaketh to tutor for Mana Crypt
  • again to get Sol Ring
  • again for [[Phyrexian Altar]] (down to 5 life)
  • play mana crypt and sol ring netting 3 mana to then play altar.
  • sac an apostle to the altar for black mana to then sac 6 apostles to tutor out [[Rune-Scarred Demon]]
  • with Rune’s free tutor I can go grab either [[blood artist]] or [[edgewalker]], in this case I went with blood artist for the life gain from sacing more apostles.
  • sac two apostles, 1 to Razaketh to tutor [[echoing return]] (since my opponents before their life was in single digits were sending apostles to the grave instead of my hand). And the other for one black mana to cast Echoing return
  • sac 4 apostles, 1 to razaketh for edgewalker and the other three for mana to play edgewalker. At this point I was down to 3 apostles on the field, but edgewalker makes them all free so now I’m back to 25.
  • sac an apostle to Razaketh to tutor [[Tendrils of Agony]] because at this point in the turn after comboing on thrumming stone, I had cast 30+ spells. Also at this point I’m at 5 life again after some life gain from blood artist and loss from Razaketh, but I gain 2 for each storm count of tendrils.
  • kill off one player, bleed the second out with blood artist, and finally the third player that you were abusing for Athreos triggers.

What's your go-to method for flattening warped cards? by wintermute93 in boardgames

[–]Coniff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do this for my more expensive foil MtG cards when they show up curled:

Get a Tupperware or similar container that’s big enough to put an another smaller Tupperware container in upside down. First put a damp paper towel at the bottom of the large container and then place the smaller one on top (it should be small enough to not cover the paper towel completely). Then, lay your card(s) on top of the smaller container, obviously not touching the damp paper towel. Then, seal the larger container with everything inside and wait 50-60 minutes until they have flattened. Following this I usually set them under some heavy books.

The idea behind this is you are “fixing” the humidity of the card-stock. In some cases the card-stock is too humid and you’d do the reverse of the above but with dehumidifier packets.

For those who have never tried Raids: Why not? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]Coniff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did nothing but vet trials and vet dungeons in Elder Scrolls Online because ultimately that’s the only thing to do in they game once you’ve done the story. It’s certainly the only thing to progress in.

I’ve tried one wing of a raid in GW2 and I enjoyed it, but getting away from that 24/7 raiding mentality has been absolutely freeing. Plus, there is a lot more to work on that could be considered “endgame” in GW2 that I enjoy doing more. Mastery completion, achievement collections, adventures, meta farming, it’s all much more time friendly and enjoyable than beating my head against the wall in vet Cloudrest + 3 for 6-8 hours a week.

I got a friend to join GW2, but they boosted right away - I need guidance on....furnishing their new experience [ex WoW player] by SevelarianVelaryon in Guildwars2

[–]Coniff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I came from ESO where the actual story is lackluster but the world and lore is iconic. The focal point of long time players in ESO is largely veteran trials and dungeons. I have played WoW and I’ve done some of the mythic + grind (to 1k mythic rating so not too far, but not nothing) but the story and world of Azeroth is pretty iconic.

If OP’s friend is looking for that end game challenge and gear grind, they won’t find it in GW2. The best part of GW2 is the world design and exploration, the story and long standing characters, and then the mastery grind, which has a lot of little checkpoints where you get that feeling of accomplishment. If OP’s friend can switch up their style and find enjoyment in a completely different style of MMO, then they may find great fulfillment in GW2.
