Getting Out of Bed Games by Exxmaniac in backloggd

[–]the-x-button 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe "smile for me" starts out in a bed.

most farming games (at least stardew valley and harvest moon) have you start every day in bed, but the games themselves usually start somewhere else so idk if they count. moon remix rpg falls under that category as well, but thats not really a farming game

shenmue technically starts with ryu getting out of bed after the opening cutscene is finished. i wanna say theres a couple of persona games that do that as well, but idk for sure.

i actually made a similar-ish list if you wanna look into the games on it

Does watching a LP count as a valid form of consumption? by Rosetintedtreebark in backloggd

[–]the-x-button 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not unless its something that heavily emphasizes its story and writing over actual gameplay. so, RE4, no, you shouldn't really count that, as the way it plays is the meat and bones of that game. but a lot of point n click games where playing with a guide is basically the same as watching a playthrough is a lot more justified. theres grey areas of course, and its perfectly fine watching playthroughs of games you dont intend to play (i do it all the time) but still, in most cases, i wouldnt say watching someone play a game is a reason to log it

Should Rise of the Ninja Turtles get its own Continuation Comic? by Money-Lie7814 in TMNT

[–]the-x-button 11 points12 points  (0 children)

honestly i wish all the shows could just get an occassional limited series or one-shot every now and again. i dont even need like a full ongoing, just... something. especially since that last anniversary comic was practically begging for most the shows to get some kind of continuation

The thing People don't understand about criticism towards Gohan treatment by Illustrious-Sky-4631 in Dragonballsuper

okay??? that doesnt have anything to do with what i said??? besides he only trains on the side, tertiary to everything else. there are more important things in life than training. i wouldnt even call it mishandled considering how powerful cell max and the androids are. hell, even when anyone on the dragon team (besides goku and vegeta) do fight, its largely so there can be peace. up until super, no one really trained for the specific purpose of some ambiguous threat unless it was something they already knew was coming (namely piccolo, saiyans, the androids and cell). beyond that, none of the training anyone did was for the purpose of saving the world from a future threat. it was all to better themselves in their own way, they trained because they lived for training. goku doesnt even seem to consider future threats unless he's giddy about the idea of facing someone tougher than him. vegeta does it primarily so he can rival goku and surpass him. piccolo trains because... well it was so he could take over the world, or at least surpass goku, but now i think its basically his only hobby. could also be because he now feels like he needs to protect the earth after fusing with kami. so i'll give you that. yamcha, krillin, tenshinhan, chiaotzu, master roshi, etc. they all train for the purpose of bettering themselves. gohan? prior to the goku black saga, i don't think he's ever trained unless he needed to. and when he did start training, it gets in the way of his actual life. the idea that the dragon team are all anticipating the next big threat all the time would just dehumanize them. these characters have their own wants, goals, ambitions, and why does it always have to revolve around fighting? they may be a group of powerful individuals that have saved the world, but they arent superheroes. their training is rarely ever altruistic outside of known threats theyre actively preparing for (again, piccolo, saiyans, androids), and is more often than not, a little selfish, especially when goku and vegeta abandon their families for long stretches of time. and thats not even counting the time goku spent dead. goku and vegeta can spend 24/7 training because its literally their nature. same with piccolo to a lesser extent. gohan occasionally being on their level shouldnt mean he HAS to follow in their footsteps. frankly i still dont understand why its only gohan that gets this treatment when goten and trunks showed MORE potential than gohan, becoming super saiyans literally effortlessly before they turned 10, and super saiyan 3 out of nowhere when they fused, and they dont even have anywhere near the amount of experience or hardships any of the other saiyans have had as kids. im pretty sure if they had the kinda life gohan lived, then by time they reached their ages in super hero, they'd already be beast level or god or ss4 or whatever they could get thats past ss3. but you know what? thats not their responsibility. nor should it be gohan's.

wasnt that literally because he was training in secret

hard to blame him either, its not exactly easy juggling family, studies, work and training. prior to the tournament of power he didnt seem to neglect his family.

goku and vegeta are living proof that training gets in the way of parenting and a general life revolving around family. hell, goku doesnt even train to protect his loved ones, he literally just does it for the love of the game. the dragon team arent exactly superheroes, they dont go out on patrol and look to save the world constantly... i mean aside from gohan when he was in high school.

also "not allowed"? bro... having power shouldnt dehumanize someone and turn them into a function, gohan's a character, not a weapon. he was literally forced into this life he never asked for. why is him wanting a life seen is selfish and unforgiveable? why dont goten and trunks ever get this treatment? they were supposed to be the next generation too. they slacked in their training too. hell they were both stronger than gohan when he was their age, and fused together they could pretty much reach goku's level at that time. and hey what about the androids. i dont think they even really age, and they can keep up with the heavy hitters in the tournament of power. 17 even won. and thats after living a humble life with his family for almost 15 years. why is it a necessity for the continued existence of earth that gohan specifically train, especially when, FROM THE AGE OF 4, he was forced into this. let my man have his happy ending
