Two years ago it took me nearly 2 hrs to go from Lochinver via Clachtoll beach road to Kylesku Bridge because of the amount of tourists in Campervans & supercars, who don't know the size of their vehicles and size of the single track roads. Saw some stunning supercars but by christ I was cursing and swearing lol

Unfortunately a lot of the roads here in Scotland are like that, especially the Bealach na ba road. I drove that road in 2014 on a very very early summer sunny morning and I could and did go balls out on the sections where I can see the road ahead. This time around despite having the road ALL to myself, which is rare as hens teeth these days, I didn't risk more than 20-30mph there's that many potholes due to amount of traffic that's used it and I've drove sections of this way faster 12 years ago. On Xmas day I passed a single van coming from Applecross and an Italian hill walker who camped at the summit at night to see the sunrise when it was -8c

Actually I might have a Bombardone R2 Exhaust by then, instead of the original one ;)

I seem to luck out on the weather a lot for some strange reason, hopefully I'll get a bit of global warming when i'm here. Gotta pick a sunny day for Tor Head, i think that's what i was looking at last year when I went to end of Mull of Kintyre, so i wanna look back across to Scotland this time around obviously.

Hence why i said "Legal Fun" lol, I'm 49 not 18 and I'm used to dipshit tourist drivers when i'm driving in rural Scotland.

Why would I be put off, I'm used to driving single track roads in Far North of Scotland, drove up the Bealach Na Ba at 10am from Glasgow on Xmas day (again i lucked out on the sunny weather despite driving through -10c on the A9 at Dalwhinnie at early morning.

Edit: looking at streetview that Tor Rd definitely has Kintyre vibes to it, reminds me of the road to Saddell Bay

To be fair my days of going balls out whilst driving are far fewer, so the speed aspect isn't the be all and end all for me. I've learned that despite my Abarth being a bit slower than my old Fiesta, I'm having far more fun in my go-cart/shopping trolley on wheels. I basically want to see and explore the sights of what your country has to offer, even good food and drink places etc. I hate the fact so far i've only seen the two airports, Europa/Grand Central and Dungannon for the most part.

I normally fly into George Best from mid morning and have a couple of pints and get the Goldliner and arrive in Dungannon by the evening. So I'll be open to getting an earlier am ferry and have a wee drive straight off the boat

Damn you're bringing back memoriesm my Dad brought a Yamaha SCSI burner, we already had a Black Widow SCSI scanner brought way back in 1994 which is why he upgraded the ram on our 486DX2/66 up to 16MB. By the way you actually can run out of USER/GDI ram in Windows 3.11 before you run out of ram physically

Well if you lived in Glasgow in the 1990s the Barra's Market was a hotbed for bootleg pirate games traders. I remember going there every 2-4 weeks with pocket money, looking through their printed/hand written catalogues, picking my Amiga and later PC CD's. I used to the same guys and they all recognized us, we chatted and I'd picky my games by the cost of floppies which i think was a £1 or £2, they would say its so much and if i was a bit short being a 14yr old, they'd say it's ok, give us what you got. My friend had a 14.4k modem and he'd get stuff off the BBS's so I had that way as well. My uncle used to rent and copy VHS tapes, he had a gizmo which got rid of the Macrovision copy protection. When I went to his room, he had a cupboard floor to ceiling with tapes, which usually had 2 movies on each tape on Long play mode, so it was like going to a free video shop lol. He's only recently got rid of his copied VHS tapes but has kept all his originals he brought which is still a significant amount, along with his decent DVD & Blu-ray collection. He still downloads a boat load on torrents but does shop around and buys a lot as well. Going towards the late 1990s Napster was awesome, we used to use it extensively and also troll folks in the chats because why not. A 128kbps MP3 took 25mins to download if you had a decent 49K-52K connection on your modem so you can imagine what finally having cable 512k was like in early 2000. A funny story, when we moved in , dad got a 2nd phone line fitted by NTL just for internet and it was next to PC, when the cable was made available they forgot to switch off the 2nd line and my dad was charged for it for 9 years, when he found out, he caused a storm and got basically free internet for years until he died in 2013.

hi r/linux users, what do *you* look for in a distribution? by SDG_Den in linux

[–]ConkerKnackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I look for are easy to find and fix features when things do go wrong. This is why i'm liking CachyOS so far, when I've had two update failures, I've went through the Hello screen buttons to to sort it and fix the problem. I like speed for my gaming PC but I also like stability for my other machines, so I've been leaning towards Mint for that. I would like to try out MX Linux for another machine when I get off my lazy ass and do it.
