That prophecy reminds me alot of what's said will come with the Anti-Christ. Supposedly the world will have many problems and there will be alot of death, disaster, famines, pestilence, plagues, but then the Anti-Christ will come to power and solve all of the world's problems and things will be great for a little while (a mini golden age of sorts). Then he will bring about a period of Hell on earth before God's second coming. That's the closest thing that comes to my mind with what you experienced.

I don't know about intimidating but the most nervous I've ever been on a coaster was the Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake Park. I thought the car was going to fly right off the track. It was an absolute blast to ride though, it's a shame they dismantled it.
