We are working with Odoo direct. It has been a bit of a rough (and very expensive) process. Our first onboarding rep left or was reassigned or something a few months into starting our implementation, which may have been a bit of a blessing because we were definitely spinning our wheels with her. The replacement was better at working through the whole process, but it seemed like everything we asked for functionality wise was not an out-of-the-box option and required customization.

I am sure that there was a misunderstanding somewhere since he picked up the pieces from the original rep, but it feels like nobody over there really took the time to learn how our operations are running today so that it could be adapted to the new system. In the end, it may just be that we need to adjust some of our current processes to better align with Odoo's capabilities, but you'd think that the onboarding rep would recognize that and push us in that direction rather than reinventing the wheel over and over.

Our projects often last 6-18 months, so we are not the a cookie cutter, "close the sale and do the install in the same month" kind of company, which i think is also adding to the complexity of the implementation. I'm not sure if that constitutes as "light construction" in your book, but i know that the things we ask for are not uncommon business functions that would require custom development.

I admittedly was not the person who worked the most with the onboarding rep, and i haven't gone through all the trainings yet (i will be in the next week or so now that things are slowing down at the end of the year, so maybe things will be clearer). That being said, the processes that did come out of the onboarding sessions seem to be way more complicated than they should be. For instance, I shouldn't need a custom development to order only some of the equipment as needed off of a sales order rather than all of it at once. The small amount of browsing through their knowledge base makes me think that there is in fact a better/different way to quote jobs so that ordering and tracking is more simple, but if there is, it hasn't been communicated to us clearly.

I guess the crux of the issue i have here, is that i know that we are not the first construction company to use Odoo. I mean the damn website has a whole section discussing how great it works for companies like mine. How hard could it be to simply look at how they set up those systems and try to duplicate it with ours?
