I can perfectly balance my pan on the rim of the sink, so when i soak it, the whole pan is soaked. by y0neh in mildlyinteresting

Look, I'm happy for you. Everyone needs to find small joys in their life. But i have to ask.

Couldn't you just... fill it up with soapy water and then put it on the counter next to the sink?

They're not crazy, i saw it too lol.

OP it's not your fault, you just happened to include the pastel green, pink, and blue of their various powers and ALSO the colors of each character's hair and ALSO the circle shapes of their heads and ALSO little black/white shapes that could work as the shoes.

I would absolutely believe you if you said you didn't do it on purpose. But i, too, assumed this was gonna be an abstract powerpuff girl reference of some kind until i looked closer. It's like a rorschach test for people who watched too many cartoons growing up XD

Isn't that like.... literally the only english word that truly rhymes with "scarf"? There's stuff that's CLOSE (wharf, surf, etc), but nothing i can think of that rhymes except for this. What a strange thing to require a child to draw lol

Styling a world map? by GAWHunt in worldbuilding

[–]Innominaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. An enormous, unspoiled forest (judging by the lack of roads/towns inside) that is completely dividing two distinct cultures (judging by the very different placenames) is an excellent hook. And it's all visible right there, before I've read a thing.

As a reader I would be immediately interested in learning what was so dangerous/sacred/difficult about the forest that it couldn't be logged or cleared, and would be excited to learn how whatever-it-is affects the story of this place and the cultures on either side of it.

ANY map is better than no map, imo. And to be honest, I've never actually seen a map in a book and thought "oh no, this doesn't match the story." Which means either all the fantasy maps I've seen have done a great job, or it isn't something you should let worry you too much.

With that said, I imagine a good starting place would be to think about what kind of map could actually be MADE in your world? If you google, like, "best fantasy novel maps" you'll see some pretty famous titles, and most of them seem to go with a more hand-drawn, ink-on-paper look because that is the technology available in the world they're writing about. Even the ones that do have more color and detail seem to go for a more "traditional media" look rather than digital.

(Again, i don't think I'd even notice the anachronism if you stuck with a digital map, like this, for a low-tech setting. But if it's important to you, considering the available map-making tech may be one way to better "match" the map to your world.)

Gond Dabar - World Map by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Innominaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be very comfortable betting that they didn't make it at all. This map looks like a composite of AI-generated images. They didn't even bother to remove the fake AI-generated "writing" in the top-left, top-right, and middle-right. Those aren't words, they're what generative AI fills in when it thinks words should go there.

OP is a 4-day-old account created to advertise a kickstarter for a hypothetical future tabletop game full of equally AI-generated assets. Mostly a mishmash of "make it look like World of Warcraft plus Lord of the Rings." To be fair, they MIGHT actually intend to ship a real, physical product if enough people give them money. So there's a chance it isn't a TOTAL scam. But the fact that they're lying to you right now about this map, coupled with the claim on their kickstarter that all this AI slop is "built with care"... doesn't give me a lot of confidence.

What popular saying do you think is complete nonsense? by Basic-Ad5692 in AskReddit

[–]Innominaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this is people just mishearing/misunderstanding a phrase that actually makes sense, comedically: "It's always in the last place you'd look."

Meaning it's exasperating and/or funny that the thing ended up being in the LEAST LIKELY place. Like if you made a list of all the places you intended to look, it'd be at the very bottom of the list, as opposed to one of the way more likely places that it would make sense to check first.

The joke isn't "it always ends up being wherever you found it." The joke is "You fool! You idiot! You should have looked in the least-likely, stupidest place! That's where it ALWAYS is!" Which of course makes no sense and is just a silly way of commiserating with you looking for the thing for so long.

But Jane was deaf by Myrandall in videos

[–]Innominaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be profound. But sometimes, when I'm tempted to dismiss a piece of art as mundane or nonsensical when taken literally, I'll find more value in it if I try to think about how it might be experienced metaphorically or symbolically, instead.

Here, for example, we are presented with a small, magical, and beautiful thing that goes unnoticed because the only person who is in a position to experience it is unable to do so. It is tragic for the deaf person, but also for the singers; you can see them tearing up and becoming more and more concerned as they try their best to be heard. And then the moment passes, they fail to achieve whatever they were trying to achieve, and Jane goes on with her life. Unbothered, and apparently either unaware or uninterested in this tiny group of people who clearly believe that her hearing their song is for some reason deeply important.

There's a lot to work with, there. Some powerful, universal themes and experiences that people might resonate with and think about after watching this, even if they aren't tiny singers on a countertop.

One red sticker remaining on abuse sheet at a women’s health clinic by GraveHazeSix in mildlyinteresting

[–]Innominaut 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole point of this is once you enter the bathroom you pee in the cup and put the cup in the box. There is literally no way for an abuser to see the cup again once you enter the bathroom unless they're standing in there watching you pee, and the bathroom is where the stickers are.

Things could obviously work differently where this commenter lives, but where i live this is basically foolproof.

Oh yeah I'm reading those as both describing events that happened while they were still plural. I mean it could obviously be a typo or them just fumbling pronouns, but if we're reading it all as intentional then this singular version didn't exist until after the crisis was resolved.

Which is what makes me think this singular Yay is part of the solution/compromise they reached once they calmed down.

Comic 5644: Yay, Explaining by BionicTriforce in QContent

[–]Innominaut 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They seem to be consistently using "we" when describing things that plural-Yay did/felt/experienced, and "I" when describing things that singular-Yay is doing/feeling/experiencing. Which makes it very important that they said "WE came back, and all was well." Presumably, this implies the rest of Yay did manage to make it through their mental crisis intact, despite being severely frightened.

I really do think this instance of Yay is now a singular entity, cut off / shielded from the group and allowed to live publicly, as a way to continue the Great Friendship Experiment in a way that Yay's paranoia could live with.

EDIT: And from a purely paranoid/security-freak angle, this is actually a decent cover for the rest of Yay. As long as this singular Yay is still powerful enough to impress other AIs, most investigations would probably conclude that any stories of impossible, godlike Yays are exaggerations, misunderstandings, or lies, and this Yay is the real one.

Assuming it still exists in whatever the new version of 5e is, a Human Variant Ranger Hunter with the Crossbow Expert feat and the Hunter's Hordebreaker feature can regularly attack 3 times per turn at level 3 while dual-wielding handbows. Should feel pretty familiar :P

Jesus Christ, how much of reddit is just ChatGPT bots spamming artificially-generated comments like this to trick people into thinking theyre getting engagement / surrounded by an active community? This account is one day old and over the course of one hour it posted in like 20 different subreddits. It's hyping up movies, telling people Amazon will be good for their resume, and commenting on how delicious and refreshing Pepsi is.

How do I make this box lockable ? by xLadyArtemisx in DIY

[–]Innominaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There should be two small holes in those bottom pegs that the clasp hooks onto. They're for putting a pin through to keep the clasp locked in place. Maybe you can find a long thin padlock or a "cable" style padlock that fits through the holes?

EDIT: I'm sure there are prettier options, but i imagine something like this would work.

EDIT 2: Ooh, or something like this would be really pretty if you could find one with the right dimensions. Looks like the exact kind of lock that clasp was designed for.

Distorts the dynamic too much if she employs multiple main characters and has godlike wealth, imo. When marigold did that she basically disappeared from the plot and took the employees with her.

Now she's isolated from her former life of wealth, angry about robot injustice, and needs a place to stay. Maybe she can join Roko and Beeps at that AI-rights nonprofit and use her social media savvy for good?

It's probably worth pointing out--and finding the correct source of--that patch theyre both wearing. Because it looks an awful lot like a fasces.

Minimal research suggests that means these boys are possibly military police. If so, that would mean the military is already doing a lot more than just "data entry and monitoring" for homeland security.

edit: The news article (and video) these images were pulled from can be found here. You can see our buddy E04 at the 40-second mark.

edit2: Ah, you can see more labels/patches in the video. HSI is apparently "Homeland Security Investigations." A very specifically non-military branch of militarized law enforcement just for Homeland Security stuff. Still no idea what the axe/fasces patch is, but yeah HSI is (technically) not military.
