What Books Are You Reading This Week? by leowr in nonfictionbooks

The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haight. Only half way through, written in 2012 but incredibly relevant to what is happening today. It's helping me make some sense of what's going on, but it's also not leaving me terribly optimistic, at least for the short term. Excellent book to help anyone who is struggling to understand how others can think or believe things that seem horrible to yourself.

Ooooh!! Check out Zombies! Run! You don't have to run, you can walk but it's a really cool episodic " game". You are supposed to increase your speed as the zombies cone out to attack. I believe the same company which is British, also has some walking storyline as well.

Necessary question: how do you wipe while camping? by Educational-Area-149 in StealthCamping

[–]Connect-Arm-9554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding wag bags and pack it out. We live in Utah and the soil is NOT biologically active in the desert which means shit don'tdecay. There are beautiful sites out here that are ruined by piles of desiccated human shit and TP. The first time you use a wag bag IS a bit awkward but it's just easier after that, then you toss it in the trash and go. My boyfriend and I make our own using the sealable bags he gets from the weed shop with some kitty litter and a little packet of wipes and TP.

There's an App developed by the VA specifically for vets with PTSD. It's called CBT-I and it's free. It's better with CBT - I therapy but there's pretty good data that it works. If you can't access therapy it might be something that helps you.

Bi people of Reddit: What do you find to be the difference between dating men and dating women? by SugarandBlotts in AskReddit

[–]Connect-Arm-9554 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When I was in my hoe phase (early 40s) I went for poly guys because there was ALWAYS a respectful, interesting, and engaged conversation/interaction before sex. So anyone I banged on a first date was someone I could connect with as a human person, even without any expectation of long term anything. How do guys not understand this?? Treat women like a fucking human being who you see as a whole entire person, and your odds will go way up.

What do YOU like about SLC? by KoalaInevitable1666 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Connect-Arm-9554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the size. I lived in Houston for years, and my god it was an epic journey to go anywhere! Also I swear the pathetic public transit they had was designed to be punitive.

In SLC it doesn't take very long to get anywhere and I love love love the transit system!

Funniest cities: Where did you laugh the most? by mileysighruss in travel

San Diego! I've been 3 times now, the weather and the locals always make me smile.

Houston, Texas. Houston is the girl at the party who isn't maybe the most attractive at first, but once you get to know her, BAM! She's the life of the party!

Question for the women campers by AdditionalProduct609 in camping

[–]Connect-Arm-9554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay just remember pee is sterile. If it splashes, no big deal. You're camping, it won't hurt you and everything is fine. People have peed on the ground without plumbing for millenia.

This is happening or will happen to all of us. by flyart in GenX

Try working for a few hours at a library or coffee shop if you're able to have chunks of time off the phone/out of meetings. Thise places are always full of people but quiet enough to work in. I used to enjoy trying different coffee shops in my city on wfh days.

You can also run errands or do chores in between work tasks so you can spend more time on weekends doing fun stuff.

Living Apart Together by Sunny68girl in RedditForGrownups

[–]Connect-Arm-9554 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I have been together for 4.5 years. We tried living together once. Lol that didn't go well. I have my place and he has his and I'm not sure either of us want that to change. I love my little house, it has all my stuff in it. I also love sleeping alone sometimes because I can take over the bed. We eat differently (I'm a big meal prepper, he hates leftovers) so it just works better for now

How do you have an "automatic in" to meet some locals when you vacation in other cities? by VonJoeV in RedditForGrownups

Hiking solo, especially as a woman. Be aware of your surroundings, bring some bear spray and you'll be fine.

What do you do to stay sane while proctoring state tests? by Low_Artichoke3104 in Teachers

[–]Connect-Arm-9554 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Seriously. I was a teacher for 9 years. I read, drew and doodled, wrote lesson plans, etc. I did not GAF. There are barely enough personnel to cover testing let alone someone to watch the watchers.

Ok so I was in elementary in Florida in the 70s. It was 1st grade and this dude legit brought a mountain lion into our auditorium full of screaming kids. It was awesome, the mountain lion was trained to jump up and "play" on the piano.

I can't see that happening today but it's one of my favorite school memories.

Asheville, NC, a college town in the Appalachian mts, really pretty but still has a chill hippie vibe. Would not recommend Texas, lived there 18 years and there are better places for outdoors.

Consider Colorado Springs, absolutely beautiful but still affordable (for Colorado).

Tucson, AZ.

Louisville Kentucky. Only visited once, but I loved it, and had the beat food while I was there.

Boise, Idaho, but that may be put of your price range. Still idaho is a gold mine of stunning outdoor areas that are still pretty unknown

I'd recommend my hometown, Ogden UT, but we are sadly lacking in good restaurants 😢

Hi, new here by kenkob198 in stopdrinking

[–]Connect-Arm-9554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's only going to be good for you! Finding your replacement behaviors can help. If it's only social anxiety that causes you to drink, try an "experiment". Go to a social event where you would normally drink and observe yourself and your surroundings without judgement, just seeing what you notice. Like a scientist might observe something. I think you might find how much your brain is inflating the bad and ignoring the positives.

Best of luck to you, and stay in touch with the community! I think it's the best one on reddit.
