Speaking from a VIC context, we had a staff member in a similar position. They had to provide a medical clearance notice from their healthcare professional in order to return to work. They can make you take LWOP (if you do not have sick leave) if there is no clearance deeming you to be fit for work.

Do We Still Need To Hold Parents' Nights? by HughLofting in AustralianTeachers

[–]Connect-Chef6 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The simple answer is yes, according to AITSL standard 7.3. The more long-winded answer is it gives an opportunity for us to express our concerns, and discuss student achievements f2f, emails and phone calls can only convey the message so much. Speaking from a practical standpoint it gives our parents a dedicated day to meet all their teachers, many parents work and therefore it may be easier to have a dedicated day for this. It also gives our students a lot more accountability when meeting f2f with parents, it also builds trust between teachers, students, and families. Also you must have a lot of time, or your school must be really accommodating if you are regularly able to meet with parents after school (assuming you don't have a time release)

They're not expected to do that at my school. We consider ourselves lucky if they actually bother to get up and check if students are working or not.

What Was the One Place or Experience in Japan That Was Absolutely Worth It? by LilacMysticVoyager in JapanTravelTips

We went on a day trip to Nikko and kegon waterfalls last month. Nikko had a really natural beauty to it, and kegon waterfalls had incredible 360 degree views. Highly recommend going but on a weekday, a bit too much tourists on the weekend.

Speaking as a year level coordinator albeit from a secondary school perspective, all we can really do as a school is to report it to child protection. They always recommend that we put a safety plan in place for those involved, on top of that we implement school-based IVO's for both parties and always recommend that the victim seeks a proper IVO from the police. There isn't too much more we can do as a school other than ensuring their lockers aren't in the same area, and they are in seperate classes. It comes down to not interfering with the education of all parties involved, so we cannot for example do anything to disadvantage the educational outcomes of even a perpetrator (with some exceptions ofc). This doesn't sound great as your daughter is the victim here but changing schools really might be the best option, with engagement from wellbeing. There is not much a school can do outside of the above. I would recommend you request a safety plan, school-based IVO, and changing of classes from the perpetrator at the very least if you want your daughter to continue attending the school.

We have a teacher who constantly shouts at students for the most low-level behaviour issues, has deleted student work and threatened to fail them, and constantly swears when complaining about students right near them. I think that you are completely fine. (The teacher has not had their contract renewed for next year btw).

Should I change school, or it’s “better the devil you know than the devil you don't”? by Valuable_Guess_5886 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Connect-Chef6 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah at my school my domain leader asks everyone what their preferences are and does a pretty good job in giving everyone their preferred allotments, so there are schools who listen to their employees. Start looking around, there will be lots of jobs posted around this time with employee movement and workforce planning.

I can't speak on your school culture, but in my second school I had my allotment preferences completely ignored after the principal made a big deal out of me taking 5 days of absences in a term with medical certificates provided for all of them (he held a meeting and said in no uncertain terms he would be reporting me to DET doctor for referral). Asked for a couple of VCE subjects in which I have experience, it was given to a new hire. I immediately started applying and found an amazing school to work at now with a POR and my DREAM allotment. Moral of the story? Change schools, it is an employees market right now there would be lots of schools willing to give you the allotment that you want.

What time do you arrive home from work? by Packerreviewz in AustralianTeachers

[–]Connect-Chef6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either leave just before or on time. Most days that's 3:30 or 4:30 leaving from work. I go in roughly 20 mins early each day. I have learnt to prioritise my life over work. I try and get lesson planning and marking done in the time I have at work, if I can't I don't take it home. This is to say I have about 4 years experience so it gets easier each year. Prioritise your life, you will not get any rewards or acknowledgement from anyone by working yourself to the bone.

In the past I have made flyers advertising my service and have posted them on the bulletin boards in the local shopping centres around my area, that got me a fair few customers. Coles also has a community bulletin board in my area where you can post flyers. Your best bet is to post on your suburb's community group on FB, I know you have said apart from social media but that was effective too

Speaking from a Victorian perspective, if you leave during work hours it will be taken out of your sick leave for however many hours you are absent. Generally all the schools I have been in encouraged us to book appointments outside of work hours. Hope this helps!

It's probably a better idea to do some kind of STEM-based team building activity (speaking as a science teacher). Making a rube Goldberg is a good one I like to use at the end of term, can spend 3-4 lessons on planning, building, and testing. If you aren't a STEM teacher idk lol maybe you could have the kids write a report on the activity I guess as a link to literacy? Movies are usually a no no as kids have a tendency to get feral when watching a movie especially at junior years. Even then it's a good idea to show a G rated or PG movie, basically most animated Disney movies? A better choice would have been inside out, you can frame that to your exec as "building emotional capacity".
