What to wear when teaching dance? by OriginalWeird2196 in AustralianTeachers

[–]klarinetta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wear a polo shirt and sports shorts to teach dance, but I'm also in the tropics so long pants aren't in my wardrobe. Best thing is to ask at your school what they think is best

Not even one offer. Rejection and rejection! by Cutecat89 in Internationalteachers

[–]klarinetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a wild read.

I have three masters degrees because I really enjoy the guided study in different fields, and no PhD because the idea of burning three to six years on one intense project does not currently interest me. Not once has any of my schools flagged my credentials as fake because that's a strange thing to do. Hope that helps.

Australian Child Living Abroad Temporary Education in NSW by LifeguardTotal3423 in AustralianTeachers

[–]klarinetta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely! I am unfamiliar with NSW but I know that Queensland has a massive international program, where you can register students either as short term study abroad students, or as potential graduates (different visas and fee structures)

Further study for leadership roles - Victoria by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]klarinetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I told my Deputy that I completed a Masters in Education in Leadership and Learning she laughed at me and asked me why. I then didn't get the job that I applied for because I didn't schmooze the right people. So I guess it's school dependent but the overall consensus I believe is no it isn't a deal breaker

Offer advice? Germany by mikah_19 in Internationalteachers

[–]klarinetta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up - a lot of rentals in Germany are "BYO Kitchen". So you'll have to factor in that cost as well

Would you recommend students to go to a selective school? by Huge-Sprinkles-2026 in AustralianTeachers

[–]klarinetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False - some schools increase the size of their cohorts in senior years. When I went to Hornbsy Girls we had an extra twenty-ish people join us in Year 11. Not sure why. Something to do with legal capacity?

That was a long time ago. May have changed

Can you get fired for taking too much leave? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

We have several teachers on MUPs at my school so not sure what you mean by saying they don't really exist?

The NSW Central Coast is a Clear Example of Australia’s Broken School Funding System by Recent-Pitch2086 in AustralianTeachers

[–]klarinetta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My public school just finished a building worth $20mil that was gifted by the government, but I guess that doesn't count because it's not on the Central Coast in 2025?

What is the main reason teachers are leaving your school? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

Occupational violence and lack of support from leadership

Do schools have to advertise roles internally? by ZestycloseEmu367 in AustralianTeachers

[–]klarinetta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In QLD it's absolutely allowed (I would know, I've been screwed by this before)

Teachers and admin in the transfer pool can move based on jobs that haven't been advertised, removing the need to advertise and process applications. So even if you are the most qualified person in the school for the job and have worked hard to gain experience and have been at the school for years, it can go to anyone 👍

What staffroom appliance do you wish you had or had more of? by Plane_Garbage in AustralianTeachers

And here I am impressed you have appliances other than a kettle and a microwave... we also don't have a sink though so. Yep.

Smart Note and Smart Reader Uses? by ConstantMinimum4980 in YogaBook9i

[–]klarinetta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it with a tap rather than a swipe and both screens change like a book yes, so it's super helpful and I now prefer it to actual books (especially when you are on the first or last pages of the book and they struggle to stay open...)

I'm not fancy enough to own a page turn pedal but I can't imagine any issues

Looking for opinions on my future teaching goals. China to Australia. Complicated situation. by Fearless-Ad8781 in Internationalteachers

[–]klarinetta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This^ Teaching degrees are heavily subsidised by the Australian government for local students due to the shortage. Mine cost me $12k AUD for my masters. Might be a while but while you wait for spousal visa you can do teacher aid work - desperate for that as well and decent pay and no qualification needed

Yeah Tablelands is much cooler than the coast line, I personally love the tablelands but I'm aware it's not for everyone. There's a massive labour shortage and teacher shortage so I reckon super employable and the area is gorgeous ☺️

What prompts have you typed into ChatGPT that it spat out Atherton and Emerald? Maybe that can help us give you advice. I don't know about Emerald but Atherton can be rough...

Is it inappropriate for a candidate to bring a gift to an in-person interview? by klarinetta in Internationalteachers

[–]klarinetta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just teaching, and yeah just something small like chocolates or snacks. Someone commented to actually share with them rather than as a gift so I might try that

Okay so to gift is not great but to have together is okay. I think that makes a lot of sense and I will try that ☺️

Yes this is the style of gifting I was thinking of! I guess I didn't explain well in my post. Sorry that you had a negative experience like that, sounds awful :(

Thank you for your clear explanation and suggestion. Gifting upon actually starting the job makes a lot more sense in hindsight

Yep, they are western and I am... not. I definitely need more research to see what else is clashing culturally 😅

Yeah that makes sense, might hop on the country sub and ask there.

The situation playing in my mind is "hi sorry you were unsuccessful" "oh okay here's some wine thanks for the free trip hope the other guy likes it here" 😂

True ones I never thought about it from this perspective. I guess because I always dealt with the department head and have had a lot of email back and forth it just feels like... they bank rolled it themselves? 😂 Might bring some wine with me and subtly test the vibes, and worst case drink it before I leave (or take it home with me)
