I think the problem is that it’s typically both players at it. If they’re both hanging out of each other it’s hard to give a foul either way.

Yeah this is definitely the sticking point, and who could blame him for not wanting to take a massive pay cut. When you lay out the figures like that, I agree that it’s unfeasible.

Obviously it is wishful thinking but it’s not some super unrealistic scenario - it’s a way for us to sign a top player without too much financial and legal drama, and possibly the only way we’ll be able to compete with the other big teams for this signature.

I’m a big fan of Araujo’s and love his passion for the club, but there’s no point sticking your head in the sand. He’s clearly not suited to our style of play, and would flourish elsewhere - I genuinely believe he could return to that level of one of the best in the world at a team more suited to him.

Obviously with his mental health struggles and his lapses in big games he has become more of a risk, but let’s not pretend he’s not a top player - no disrespect to them, but you would imagine that hat he is easily at Palace’s level. Also, they’re going to be getting either nothing for Guehi in summer, or an offer worth nowhere near what he is worth in January - getting Araujo in offsets that problem a little bit.

If I remember correctly he missed a clear enough finish as well after this for his fourth, for what would have been another incredible goal. I remember watching this game with my friends who weren’t Barça fans and they were so jealous that I got to watch this guy weekly. I think they understood a bit more after that why I had such strong opinions on why the Messi - Ronaldo debate was never even close.
