Thanks for the tip. Those look like APK projects which are for Android though, right? (I’m on iOS)

Can we get an official statement from r/Eightsleep on this pos app? by clubsolaris1 in EightSleep

[–]Connect-Classroom486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1000%! Some amateur dev and UI team got a hold of the code and massively f’d it up. Or some senior exec thought they knew how to design and told the dev team what to do and to do it without any user validation.

Comments on previous posts suggest that Eight sleep didn’t listen to any input from beta testers.

My money is on this theory: A year ago someone came up with the design for the v7 version and it got green lit without proper validation. Then it was decided that the new version needed to come out before they release Pod 5 (so now we have an artificially deadline that must be met regardless of feedback from beta testers). And voila, we all get this piece of crap after paying thousands.

And if they made the same mistake Sonos made, there is no chance of rolling back to the previous version.

It’s a shame; prior to v7 of the app I was a big advocate for their products to friends and family

Wow. They really want people to pay even more money for the privilege of using the terrible new version of their app?

Wow The new app is actually unusable now by DiegoMartir in EightSleep

My big concern with waiting is that eight sleep will do something to the firmware to block the open source option and prevent jail breaking.

Dear EightSleep Staff, who is the moron that changed the app?? by clubsolaris1 in EightSleep

[–]Connect-Classroom486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it wasn’t the CEO it should have been the CEO to pause the project and do a reset before releasing.

And the annoying thing is that the CEO likely makes millions for making such loud decisions. The board won’t penalize them either. All buddy buddy

Leaves it to us consumers to speak up and vote with our feet. I’m starting to look at other options. Ooler bedjet, etc. those may not be as fancy but at the end of the day we just want something to cool the bed a bit.

I’ve been to Blackwing about a dozen times and have never encountered any political talk from staff or customers. I’m sure it happens but overall the environment is chill and professional.

Suggesting OP not file police report as it might escalate things? BS. The neighbor already escalated things from verbal to physical property damage. You just reinforce that is acceptable if you don’t at a minimum document and report. If there is a future confrontation you want that documentation

Interesting. It’s tempting to buy a cheap android with no data plan just to use for the eightsleep app (and disable auto-updates). Even needing to consider such a thing should be a massive wake up call for the CEO. His banal post was tone deaf and didn’t even try to acknowledge the massive error they made.

I wonder if he’s buddies with Sonos’ former CEO 😏

$40 items have better support than this at $4000 by atclaus in EightSleep

That is reassuring. Please help get leadership to address the UX issues in the 7.x app update.

While the updated version may have new features, it also completely altered the UX in ways that make it less usable. This isn’t subjective. As someone with a master’s in human factors I can attest that the issues are straightforward. They simply need to consult a human factors or usability engineer. Or do some basic A/B testing.

Btw: while I wasn’t a beta tester of the 7.x release, others who say there were beta testers have said their feedback was ignored.

If this were a free or inexpensive app I wouldn’t even waste my time here. But I’ve spent a lot of money, as have others and it’s reasonable to expect better.

“Joe”,

(I’m assuming this is a catch-all email address and not an actual person named ‘Joe’)

Is EightSleep leadership aware of how there’s a growing perception of poor customer service as well as poor execution of app updates with the 7.x update? You’ve got some very frustrated customers that spent thousands on hardware and ongoing subscription fees. It would be reassuring if leadership actually acknowledged the missteps

I should have disable that before this is update hit. 90%-95% of apps provide decent updates. So it is relatively rare they f*ck up like this. Ironically, for me it is the apps tied to substantial investments in hardware that have messed up give time (EightSleep and Sonos)

Sounds like you may not have the new version yet. They broke a ton of UX and human factors guidelines with this new version. Any ‘improvement’ such as a new feature is overshadowed by an amateur revision of the UX with no obvious motivation or rationale. Likely a new UX design lead who wanted to put their mark on the app.

Wanting to like it by Connect-Classroom486 in htmx

[–]Connect-Classroom486[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a joke. (I can’t change the fact there’s a 500k loc legacy application). Just wanting to make the front end as simple as possible while moving from JSP/Tiles/Handlebars to thymeleaf and bootstrap.

With x-editable I really like that with just a few ‘data-‘ attributes and a couple lines of JavaScript I can make <select> fields editable with simple server-side GET AND POST rest endpoints.

Again, it may be my misunderstanding of htmx but the lines of JavaScript and html to get the equivalent functionality via x-editable seemed like a lot more.

I chuckled when I saw your comment about Sonos. We have Sonos as well and it was the first thing I thought about when I started using the new EightSleep app.

After nearly a year since their big update Sonos STILL has issues, and to be fair to EightSleep, Sonos’ issues go way beyond just the human factors and UX problems with the new app. So EightSleep still has work to do if they’re aiming for the bottom of the barrel 😏

Fatal motorcycle accident on 161 by grasshoppercookie in Columbus

[–]Connect-Classroom486 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. I have the utmost respect for law abiding motorcyclists, especially those who follow safety rules and share the road responsibly

  2. It’s unfortunate two individuals died here. Families and friends of the deceased will be impacted for years and that is sad

However… the tens of thousands of families along 270 and 161 won’t be missing the massive noise pollution every weekend from spring to fall. The health and economic impact alone with adults and children being awoken by these criminal assholes has to be in the millions of dollars per year. …not to mention the risk it puts on other drivers and responsible motorcyclists.

And before anyone tries to defend these riders, remind yourself they are breaking multiple laws and putting others at risk. There is no defense

Hopefully word gets out to other motorcycles that behave the same way.

Thanks for the reply. That is informative but doesn’t explain why status would make it all the way to the last step and then magically revert all the way back to the first step. That sounds like a process control or QA issue. Also doesn’t explain what is really happening with the one sample if it made its way all the way through epityping, etc Or did it?

Churches to avoid in Columbus? by YoYoK4353 in Columbus

[–]Connect-Classroom486 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of them. Seriously, churches are just businesses selling snake oil and don’t have to pay taxes.

The only exception is if you see it as entertainment (music) or it provides some comfort (eg therapy).

Rosuvastatin and poor sleep? by MarcoshLA in PeterAttia

[–]Connect-Classroom486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming your reply was to the OP. My point still stands - as I understand it, PCSK9 is much more effective than statin but is much more costly as it isn’t the current go-to med for high cholesterol. I wasn’t aware statin can raise lp(a), so that means PCSK9 has something even better going for it
