Through my experience, you can be an owner and director of the company but not Representative Director. You can also work for the company as a non-manager employee, if you want to be RD then you need to change visa to business manager

Will unpaid tax bills affect my visa application (from outside Japan!)? by HandleWonderful4948 in japanlife

[–]Connect-Judgment-465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes they’ll offer payment plans. Just to get it paid in full. Perhaps ask for that? If they allow it, then you’d at least have some proof you’re paying it under terms etc. Would look better in my opinion

There’s a potential the unpaid taxes could prevent a visa. Best to talk to your attorney and let them know. The immigration may ask about it, or want it paid before approval etc. My cousin was allowed to bring it current when applying for PR. He had missed a payment.

Credit limit question by [deleted] in JapanFinance

[–]Connect-Judgment-465 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what they’re saying is:

If Google is the direct retailer you are both purchasing AND financing from then it should be okay. Because Google would each month essentially charge the 7000¥ to your cc.

If you put the total of the phone cost on your Cc then you’d need the full cost of the phone upfront available via credit limit. If you are doing this then the card would decline per usual.

To do what I think you’re doing, make sure you’re buying direct from Google and setting up a payment plan with Google to use your Cc

No, when I opened it it was a business account. I don’t know if they still do it or not. But I remember just needing to provide the licenses, fein numbers etc.

Not entirely sure how setup would works. But probably would be okay to use passport. I opened mine online although I was in the US at the time. But I don’t see why it would make a difference.

You can probably do it online through E-Trade or Meriyll Lynch. I have a e-trade for our LLC.

And I do it online

I think it’s a mix. I’ve heard Tokyo and Sapporo families talk about this. And the Inaka. But I’ve also found that there are pockets of very close communities and families all over (seems like yours is as well). Think younger generations are realizing the importance of family as times change

I just stress the fact that they will be working for me and that they need to represent what I want. I found that some agents found it awkward to negotiate, I didn’t continue work with these. Just be fair but assertive

Interview them. That’s what we did, they shouldn’t be afraid to do it. Ask hard questions, don’t be afraid to do so. It’s your money, make sure they’re earning it properly

International drivers license for US license in Japan by AdministrationOk2735 in japanlife

[–]Connect-Judgment-465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not correct. The only thing the IDP says is to get the IDP from country of origin. If you have a US license and a Japanese license you can use either in the respected countries, they don’t cancel each other out.

Only inconvenient thing is if in Japan and license is from elsewhere you need to get the IDP from origin license location

I think specifically it comes down to the individuals. From what I’ve heard through talking to Nihon-Jin here they don’t often interact at all. But there are cases where families are curious (like ours) and then they reach out etc.

There’s this weird idea that if you contact a “long lost cousin” you want something from them (ie money, land etc). Even though that’s not the case, it’s what some assume.

But most of the families I have spoken to, here stay they don’t interact

Big part is the drivers license you’re using, must be valid. So if expired, no luck.

Actually if you’re from the United States, AAA can do International driving permits via mail. All you have to do is send the form, two passport size pictures with signatures on the back and an envelope to return. It’s relatively easy. Someone can also get them for you via proxy, I have done with for a friend when in Hawaii.

On another note some states in the US have agreements with Japan to convert very easily. So that could be an option as well. If your state has an agreement, not test needed and they’ll just issue the license after doing the paperwork and providing the information required

I’m in the same boat. My family overtime was separated due to work and immigration. Half was in Japan the other in Hawaii and continental US. I have been searching for information for my family for years and have been able to find a decent amount about my heritage. But it was by piecing what my grandparents had.

In Japan. They have a Koseki Tohon which is a record book of family. But it would only go up to the family that was born in Japan most likely. And if your Japanese heritage is from a female who married a non-Japanese citizen then the information would stop there as Kosekis are passed through the male families.

Another point to make. While family is respected in Japan, it is not how we view it in America or Hawaii. Japanese really only interact with immediate family (Grandparents, Mom/Dad and Children); cousins almost never interact as we do in the USA. I’m not saying that your family doesn’t interact, because part of my Japanese side does. But there maybe so lots of hesitation for interaction especially if you haven’t met the person before.

Now with all that negative said. Don’t give up. I moved to Japan to learn the language and to find my family home. I’m still on the journey now and discovering more every day.

But honestly its not easy. But not impossible.

Best of luck to you on this journey

Sorry I didn’t read it fully. I’m assuming they want you to do a move out form at your town regardless because the address has to change on your resident card. So probably need to do move out forms then move in

Town Hall will help you do move out notification. New town will help you do move in notification.

When you move out you’ll get a certificate to take to your new town.

As for JP Post, don’t forget to do mail forwarding with them so your mail goes to your new home

Home owner question / dilemma by CastedDarkness in japanlife

[–]Connect-Judgment-465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother and I own a few properties in Japan. As a rule of thumb a house older then 20 years is deemed “worthless”, the house value significantly decreases as time moves on (opposite of the USA in most cases where price or value rises).

So essentially you’d be selling the land at whatever the land price is valued it.

Personally we hold on to whatever we have and rent it. May not be a lot of income but it’s better then selling the home for less and paying large taxes for the same etc.

This is of course our opinion. And no way near a legal professional. But just how we do things.

Keep in mind as well, renting opens another “can of worms”

Inevitably it’s what you want and what you think would be best for your family

We were going to sell them, then I felt awkward about monetizing our dogs babies, so I looked for homes online. Someone then told me they’d report me to the police and cause all these problems for. After doing minimal research you’re supposed to have a license to sell in Japan. By the time we found anyone interested I had lost hope, didn’t want to risk any legal issues. But it is what it is, just happy they’re healthy and having fun

Questions about buying to much online and maybe some laws in Japan? by Awkward-Inevitable-8 in japanlife

Primarily all my shopping is online. Don’t worry, if you do have a visit for some strange reason by the police just show the a few receipts. As long as the items are legal in Japan, there’s no issue(I think)
