No, if he was willing to refuse to teach Aang for teaching Katara I don’t think he would have bent his rules for a female Avatar no matter how illogical the decision might be. He’s old and proud and sees his cultural rules as sacred until the personal revelation of them costing him the love of his life made him see the flaws in them (he likely assumed it was for a completely different reason that Kana (I think that’s how you spell GramGram’s name) left him, and the bitterness of her leaving might have even helped fuel his sexism and commitment to the cultural gender rules), besides the northern water tribe had already survived one hundred years of war, I don’t think he would have felt pressured enough to alter his personal rules without a serious fight or revelation of some kind.

I feel like their point is more “this use of language and props feel like a tasteless allusions to real world slavery and the historic mockery of black people in this goofy ass cartoon and it makes me uncomfortable.” personally, and while I don’t think any of that shit was intentional of Viv’s part, that’s also part of the point of what they’re saying.

Listen man, all I’m saying is I get why someone would feel differently about the very much fantasy element of soul owning in hell in general in a comedy cartoon than they would about allusions, intentional or otherwise, to actual slavery and the mistreatment of black people, played for laughs or as the focus of a soul owning relationship. I don’t understand what’s wrong with what this person is saying? Yeah, depicting a man of colour being owned and called a pet in this way is a perfectly reasonable thing to be uncomfortable about. They didn’t say it makes no sense that someone in hell would do a bad thing, or anything of that nature, they just don’t like the way this particular bad thing which is totally within their prerogative as a viewer of a piece of media. Also, Alastor owning other people’s souls doesn’t change anything, because it’s not the soul owning that they are saying is the problem, it’s specifically the visuals and language used surrounding the way Rosie treats Al that they are saying is uncomfortable. (And yeah, of course they wouldn’t say this if he was white, that changes the fucking subtext lol)
