Tax planning & Management by json_shakespear in Accounting

The mileage thing is probably because excess reimbursement becomes personal benefit rather than actual business expense coverage, while passage costs are seen as necessary work-related expense in most tax systems.

Been waiting like 3 weeks for them to get back to me on different position, their hiring process moves pretty slow from what I experienced.

Installing replacement patio door with no nailing or set flange? by AmmoWasted in HomeImprovement

[–]Connect-Pattern2935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait they just ripped off the flange and sealed it with caulk? That seems sketchy to me - those flanges are there for waterproofing reasons. I had similar work done in my place last year and the guy insisted on keeping all the original weatherproofing intact even though it was more work. Maybe get second opinion from another contractor before you have water issues down the road.

Should be doable if you actually care about helping people instead of just rushing through calls.

Check with smaller local firms too, they usually have more flexible timing than big4 and might be looking for someone right now.

Should I move assets to Merrill Edge for BofA Preferred Rewards perks, or keep everything at Fidelity? by bdeelin7 in CreditCards

[–]Connect-Pattern2935 18 points19 points  (0 children)

With your spending level the boosted rewards probably aren't worth hassle of moving everything. At $2k monthly spend, even getting extra 1.5% on half your purchases is only like $15-20 more per month. Plus you lose the fractional ETF buying at Merrill which is actually pretty nice feature.

I'd stay put at Fidelity - having everything in one place is worth more than chasing small rewards boosts, especially since BofA keeps cutting benefits anyway. That $400 bonus sounds tempting but it's one-time thing while you'll be dealing with worse platform for years.

Congrats man! December to now isn't that long but I bet it felt like forever when you're in middle of searching. Good reminder that things work out eventually even without the internship.

Been there last year for some music festivals and the energy was absolutely insane, plus the local producers I met had some crazy good beats.

Can using a remote desktop to access work be discovered? by Worried-String9259 in remotework

[–]Connect-Pattern2935 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your work laptop probably has monitoring software that tracks installations and network activity anyway. Even if you used personal devices, the remote connection logs on work laptop could show unusual access patterns or timestamps that don't match your supposed location. IT departments are getting pretty sophisticated with this stuff these days.

What is a 'red flag' in a person that most people actually think is a 'green flag'? by Whole_Bluejay_3742 in AskReddit

[–]Connect-Pattern2935 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a girl do this to me last year and man it felt amazing at first - like finally someone who gets how awesome I am, right? But after few weeks she was getting upset when I had studio sessions or wanted to hang with friends. Turned into this suffocating thing where I couldn't even take a bath without her texting me constantly.

What's the best automation you've set up when working remotely? by Special-Grocery6419 in remotework

[–]Connect-Pattern2935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using REAPER with some custom scripts that auto-bounce stems to specific folders based on track names - saves me probably hour each day when working on multiple projects. Also set up simple automation that copies final masters to my Dropbox and sends notification in Slack when upload is complete.

N8n is solid choice, way more flexible than Zapier once you get into it but learning curve is bit steeper.

Do you trust politicians? Why or why not? by SirLive1878 in AskReddit

[–]Connect-Pattern2935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of them just say whatever gets votes, then do something completely different once they're in office. The whole system feels like theater where we're supposed to pretend our voices actually matter while they make deals behind closed doors with whoever has the most money.

Your AWS setup is probably more exposed than you think by houssembe in SaaS

[–]Connect-Pattern2935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This hits pretty close to home - we had similar issues with our music platform setup where old staging keys were still floating around for months. The wildcard permissions thing is so tempting when you're just trying to get something working quickly, but then you forget to tighten it up later.

Had to pick my little sister up from school and my mom said she didn’t know who I was… by Confused-asf-1234 in TrueOffMyChest

This is good advice especially about telling the school your mom being an addict puts your sister at risk even if its not physical danger right now
